Sir,
The article titled,
''Amazing Bananas'' published in the
Sunday edition of this newspaper (Nov 26)
was highly informative. The author Mr.
Ashish Mahajan has given detailed profile
of the banana. It is really interesting
to know that banana contains all the
three natural sugar and that a few
bananas are enough to provide us with a
pack of energy sufficient to enable us to
do work strenously for hours together. In
fact all fruits have high percentage of
natural carbohydrates and vitamins which
can prevent many types of malnutrition.
Unfortunately for the last
two decades or so the bananas are not
allowed to ripen naturally. In fact they
are picked raw and then stored in store
houses where some powdery substance is
sprinkled over them which initiates
chemical ripening. We see such powerdy
soot overselves over the fruit whenever
we buy them in our city. I am not sure
whether food adulteration department or
health department has some authority
towards curbing the use of chemicals for
the artificial ripening of fruit. The
citizens of the State should think about
to starting a debate over the use of such
chemicals which has adverse effect on our
health.

School
timing
Sir,
Winter season is on now,
School timings have changed. But we see
that in Govt. Schools, School timings are
from 10 am to 4 pm. But in private
schools there is no consideration about
such timings and most schools start at 8
am. It is very difficult for younger
children ro reach the school at 8 am in
winter reason. This definately affects
healths of children. But private schools
do not pay heed to this need.
It is requested to the
concerned authorities to kindly impress
upon the management of all private
schools to change the school timings from
8 am to 10 am and bring it at par with
Government school timings.

Fan
vandalism
Sir,
It was really sad to see the
cricket fans are attacking the houses of
cricketers and protesting the bad
performance of our players.
These people only used to
praise the team, when it was doing well.
But now when the team is going through a
tough time, they are discouraging them
instead of giving them emotional support.
Why do we forget we are
Indians and this not the way we react to
such things? We must understand the
condition of cricketers and support them,
so that they can do well in the next
matches. After all winning and losing is
the part of the game.

Obscene
posters
Sir,
Jammu city is famous as the
city of temples. Here majority of people
have faith in the religious values.
During the morning and evening the Pooja
and Aarti in the temples makes the mind
calm. Every faith 'performs its progress
in peace and thus adds to the moral
atmosphere. But the atmosphere is
vitiated by the obscene posters pasted on
the walls, lamp posts and Cinema houses.
These offensive posters create a bad
effect on the youth and young people in
particular. Lakhs of people visit our
city enroute Vaishno Devi. The presence
of these posters near cinema halls and
other localities makes a bad impression
on the minds of people. It is very
difficult for the girls and women to pass
through these areas. The Government had
previously launched a drive to remove
obsence posters. But after some time the
drive lost the steam.
The concerned authorities
are requested to impose heavy fine on the
persons who paste these obscene posters.
A sustained drive should be launched to
discourage such immoral activities.
