Niaz challenges allegations levelled against him

Excelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Sept 3: Minister for Power, Mohammad Sharief Niaz has requested the Chief Minister to initiate any inquiry or probe to ascertain the veracity of allegations levelled against him by the junior Minister, saying that there would be no party pressure if the Chief Minister constitutes any inquiry.

Dispelling allegations, Niaz said that the irresponsible statement is mere attempt to divert the attention from arrogant approach of the Minister. He challenged the allegations saying that he is even ready to face independent investigation, inquiry commission or probe of what so ever nature if appointed for the purpose.

He said manhandling of officers rebuking and abusing the employees is un heard of dealing with situation by a Minister. "There are rules and procedures to deal with erring Government employees, use of muscle power and abusive language against the respectable persons is the work of Gunda element", he lamented.

Mr. Niaz said the arrogance of junior Minister resulted in power crisis at the time when Mehraj-ul-Alam was being observed in the valley and Jammu was under the grip of heat wave. The Junior Minister’s childish action evoked severe resentment in entire rank and file of the Power Development Department and people in general. The Power Development Department Employees went for indefinite strike putting public to a great inconvenience. However, "I defused the crisis and did not ask the junior Minister to resign as was demanded by the Electric Employees Union/Associations as a pre-condition to restore the power supply".

Levelling allegations against the senior officers and senior Ministers by the Minister itself speaks loud and clear of the immaturity, short temperament and arrogance of the erring Minister.

BJP flays UPA Govt for discrimination with Jammu

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Sept 3: Accusing the UPA Government of pushing the people of Jammu region to the wall, the State BJP vice president and spokesman Prof Hari Om today said any failure on the part of UPA to reverse its valley-centric approach may lead to State’s trifurcation into Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh States.

Prof Hari Om said the developments of past three days have shown that people of Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmiri Pandits have no place in their scheme of things and that UPA Government may reach an agreement with separatist and highly sectarian All Party Hurriyat Conference (A) to please them and their masters in Pakistan.

He said had AHPC any representation in the valley it would have participated in the elections of Assembly and Parliament, but they continue to issue poll boycott calls, because this conglomerate has no following in the valley.

Prof Hari Om urged the Prime Minister to drop the idea of meeting APHC leaders on September 5. Prof Hari Om said the best way to restore peace and normalcy is to immediately convene a round table conference of the main-stream leaders so that their views could be ascertained on the issues confronting the State’s different regions so that hurt feeling of the people were assuaged.

He expressed hope that Prime Minister would rise to the occasion and take the national interests into consideration and abandon his Kashmir policy which, he said, was flawed as the same was dangerous and at the same time Pakistan and Kashmiri-Sunni-centric.

CPI leader dubs UPA Govt as capitalist

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Sept 3: Expressing reservations over the economic polices of the UPA Government, senior leader of CPI and Member of Parliament Comrade Gurudas Das Gupta has dubbed Manmohan Singh regime as Capitalist and sought to justify the ‘pressure tactics’ of Left parties while continuing support to it.

"We are not fully satisfied with the economic policies of the Government and that is why the Left parties have given a call for All India bandh on September 29 against privatisation, liberalisation and other anti-worker policies of the Government," he explained while addressing 5th Jammu and Kashmir State Conference of All India Trade Union Congress, here today.

Pointing out that the UPA was in power only because of the Left Front support to it, the CPI leader, opined that the time was most appropriate to launch struggle and get the workers’ demands conceded. "If we fight this time, we will surely get something because the Government can not ignore us (Left parties) because of our support to it," he explained and reminded that EPF interest rate was increased one percent and privatisation of BHEL was reviewed by the UPA Government only under pressure from the Left allies.

At the same time, the senior CPI leader clarified that the Left Front was not against Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) but the anti-workers policies of the multinationals. "We welcome FDI in India but the foreign capitalists must have to abide by laws of the land," he said. Gurudas Das Gupta, who is also general secretary of AITUC, exhorted the comrades to activate all the trade unions to effectively raise the voice of workers and fight for their due rights. "Constitute unions and activate the existing ones, we will extend full support to you," he said.

Earlier, general secretary of J&K State Council of AITUC, Suresh Kumar Sharma highlighted the grievances of workers in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that their fundamental rights in the State were being denied. Seeking personal intervention of Gurudas Das Gupta to get the grievances of Baghliar Project workers solved, Suresh Sharma also appealed the CPI leader to take up the issue of Safai Karamcharis of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board with the Governor.
