Aid to earthquake victims

I

Sir,

The economic package announced by the Centre and funds raised by different Governmental agencies and NGOs to help the earthquake victims is a welcome step, but the question now arises on the sincerity of the State Government on the implementation part because the same can become the pocket money of different Government officials and ministers. The precendent of the failure of 'snow-tsunami' Rehabilitation Plan should not be reiterated where all the promises were forgotten just within in a week or two after the tragedy.

Now the question arises to the responsibility of the human society at this critical stage and juncture. It is beyond the control of human being to control the ''Coming'' of these happenings and calamities. But with the help of computers and latest gadgets one can come to know the happenings and coming of these calamities such as earthquake and storm etc. It is necessary that some means, strategies, measures and plannings are made for safety and ''Knowing'' of these calamities. Here are some steps that need to be taken:

* More and more computers, machines should installed at different places of the world and affected areas of this earthquake. Media should play a constructive role in this critical situation and should not create any discrimination between the people of Pakistan and India and among the people of different faiths.

* The Government should provide help and assistance in a proper way so that it could be reach the affected persons properly.

* The Government should assess the damage and visit the affected areas properly.

* The common citizens should make contributions and collect the funds for the economic assistance of the bereaved families of victims and for those who are missing and those who are in trouble. Some welfare programmes should be held for the welfare of the bereaved families of victims etc.

Look beyond Gandhi Nagar

Sir,

Its nice to see that some kind of development is being done in Jammu city specially in Gandhi Nagar constituency. But I would like Mr. Raman Bhalla (MoS) to consider the point that he is busy in blacktopping the area of Gandhi Nagar only. The roads which are in better condition are being blacktopped again & again, but he is neglecting other areas totally. So please look at other areas also where no development work has been ever taken up.
