SRINAGAR, Mar 12: In a significant setback to militancy in north Kashmir, security forces have killed Hizbul Mujahideen's "divisional commander" (Finance) and "launching chief" Farooq Ahmed War, alongwith his bodyguard, in a fierce gunbattle in Handwara today. One more militant has been killed in Tral area. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar has ordered a magisterial inquiry and Police have lodged an FIR against Army after thousands of people in Kangan area alleged that troops had resorted to mass beating of men and molestation of women during a search operation in Theune village............more

Lahore witnesses its first Dogri play

LAHORE, Mar 12: The standing ovation that the team of Rangyug got at the culmination of their performance of the play "Aale" at Alhamra here today was not only because of the sterling quality of their performance, it was also due to the fact that it was the first play in Dogri language ever to be performed in Lahore. The loudest cheers came from a misty eyed section of the audience comprising number of elderly persons, proud Dogras, who had migrated to Sialkot and Lahore from Jammu in 1947 after partition. They were once again savouring the taste of their beloved Dogri language, which reminded them of their roots and the composite cultural ethos of Jammu............more
