Govt vehicles and students

Sir,

In reference to the mail 'Misuse of Govt vehicles'' in your esteemed paper on 28.12.2004, every prudent and civilized citizen of this society is really concerned with this unchecked and dishonest culture of misuse of Govt. vehicles.

Right from morning to night we all can see the movements of many Govt. vehicles by the family members of the concerned officers. Above all, one can see the rush and exhibition of these Govt. vehicles in front of all Schools and Colleges as wards of concerned Officers are dropped to and picked up from schools/ colleges and other tutorials by these vehicles. Not only driver and vehicles and engaged in this foul process but also in maximum vehicles the security guard/PSOs of Officers are also pressed into this service. In front of the tuition centres also, where the wards of these parents attend the tuition classes for about two hours or so daily, these Govt. vehicles remain waiting for them.

The mushrooming culture of misuse of these Govt. vehicles, particularly for dropping and lifting school/college going children do not only unnecessarily burden the public exchequer but also above all create a bad taste of inferiority complex amongst the students community as the ordinary students generally feel that they are too poor and unlucky to enjoy this luxurious treatment (which otherwise is a corrupt practice).

In this behalf, contrary to this mushrooming culture and to check this mal-practice, common and innocent students are advised that they must be proud of being simple and honest to live only at the hard earned money of their parents. And they must openly condemn the misuse of Govt. vehicles for the families of officers at the cost of general public as these Govt. vehicles are meant to be used by the officers only for official duties.

Anyway, the tender students are not so matured to understand the magnitude of this evil properly. So in this process, School/College authorities can play an important role to check this culture. They once a week in the morning prayer time, can comment upon this culture and can also arrange debates/symposiums on this burning and social issues by involving the students. In the debates we can appreciate and praise those parents who despite having the Govt. vehicles at their disposal do not indulge in this mal practice and keep their children within their fair means.

By this process a clear cut message shall go to one and all to be honest even right from student's age. And students of these officers shall be well prepared to advise their parents not to misuse the Govt. vehicles for their ward' student life so that all students remain as one category in the school.

This way the Govt. vehicles (including fuel, drivers and PSOs) shall also be saved from being misused thereby giving relief to public exchequer (which is ours common money) and above all in school/colleges all students shall be equally placed.

Like Uniform, there shall be uniformity in all aspects in schools.

Moreover, parents of students must be sincere to prepare and inculcate in the minds of their wards right and honest sense right from birth to see them as growing best citizens on earth.

Violence against women

Sir,

This has reference to the news item 'Violence against women rising in Assam' published in the Daily Excelsior dated Jan 3, 2005.

The news item did neither surprise nor shock me. This is because, it is not only in Assam that violence against women has increased but throughout the country. The dowry death, kidnapping and rapes have become a common occurrence. Though we have sufficient laws to deal with the problems, their effective implementation has remained a disturbing question. Moreover, both woman and men, religious. Moreover, both woman and men, religious and social leaders have to come forward to find a solution to the vexed problem. Women too have to became assetive. Only then we can give our womenfolk a dignified life.

Moreover, women empowerment can raise the standard of their life tremendously.

Tsunami tragedy

Sir,

The tragedy of Tsunami that rocked the southern part in particular and country in general serves wake up call for the nation that Nature's wrath should not be taken in lighter vein but a warning to refrain all that goes against ethics and moral behavior.

Nature is playing its vital role of a watch dog, not now, but from the early times keeping a close watch on our actions and thought. His ways are mysterious. In the wake of dreadful said events we must bring a moral change in ourselves and embark on a rightful track without inviting Natures Wrath to avert the tragedy like Tsunami.

After independence there has been a perceptible decline in moral values, galloping trend in immorality and bewildering rise in corruption and when all these things are clubbed together bring a pain never to mitigated form the pages of History. Let us control over desires and allow others to live.
