Employment generation

Sir,

President APJ Abdul Kalam while addressing the Nation on the eve of Republic Day (2005) in New Delhi has rightly deliberated on employment generation because the unemployment is increasing at a galloping speed in India and is a very sensitive, serious problem. Mr. Scientist President of our country is equally right to say that ''the only answer to retain the smile from the child to the youth is to generate employment. It represents the aspirations and anxiety of nearly (540) million youth of our nation....selected the topic for the Republic Day''. This unifocal agenda of employment generation needs a follow ups action by the Govt of India, State Government, Corporations, Undertaking, PSU (s), NGO (s), Industrialists and others so that the unemployed youth of India could be absorbed, adjusted and the burning problem of unemployment in India curbed, solved. Hope, Mr. President' "Best Agenda'' for the greater good of the unemployed youth of India and the Nation as a whole will be given the practical shape.

Forgetting the father

Sir,

This has reference to the excellent article 'Nextgen getting far from Gandhi' published in the Sunday Magazine of the Daily Excelsior dated Jan 30.

The comments made by the interviewees need to taken into consideration and thought over. It is true that new generation does not attach any priority to the ideas and ideals propagated by the Father of Nation. But blame does not lie with this generation but with our elders who failed to fathom the essence of his teachings and percolate them downwards. The way politicians are running this country is quite deplorable. Had our elders and the successive Governments made any effort in preaching the Gandhian principles, we would have certainly known much more about than we do at present.

It is also true that X-generation knows much more about cine stars than they do about freedom fighters who laid their lives for the cause of the country. Isn't it strange?

No double standards

Sir,

This has reference to the news item ''No double standards in war against terrorism'' published in the Daily Excelsior Jan 30.

India has been repeatedly asking the international community, particularly the USA, not to adopt double standards while dealing with terrorism. Whether acts of terrorism, are carried out in India or the US, it has only one dimension: to create terror, kill people and destroy property. So if it has only one form, then why should we have 'double standards' to deal with it. But the US in not ready to consider it. Where America uses stick, there it asks others to use carrot policy. That is why terrorism is surviving in various parts of the country. Had a unanimous policy been adopted, terrorism may have been on its last leg. So its time for the US to wake up to the reality.

Install street lights

Sir,

It is to bring in the notice of the Municipal authorities that the road from Maheshpura Chowk to Pawan Ice Cream shop Canal road is without Street Lights. This causes great difficulty to the morning walkers to go far a stroll along this route. Moreover, during evening hours also, the scoorists and pedestrians don't dare to pass through this route for fear of being robbed off by anti social elements.

Therefore, keeping its sensitivity in view, it is requested to the concerned authorities to make arrangements for installation of street lights all along this route.
