Chapter of National HRD Network
being
inaugurated today

JAMMU, Dec 19: Jammu Chapter of
National Human Resources Development
Network (NHRDN) is being formally
inaugurated tomorrow at Jammu University.
P
Dwarakanath, Director-HR,
Glaxo-Smithkline Health Care Ltd, who is
national president of National HRD
Network, is specially arriving here for
the inaugural function and he shall
deliver the keynote address.
G P Rao,
vice-president-HRD, JK Tyres and regional
president (North) of National HRD
Network, will deliver the inaugural
address while K Satyanarayana, executive
director of NHRDN will present
preliminary introductory notes.
Vice-Chancellor
Prof Amitabh Mattoo shall preside over
the function.
Besides
these distinguished guests, the inaugural
function shall be attended by 27 life
individual members, 10 permanent
institutional members and 27 student
members from different parts of the
country.
According
to Prof Neelu Rohmetra of JU Business
School, who is Secretary and Co-ordinator
of NHRDN Jammu Chapter, main objective of
launching the Jammu Chapter of NHRDN is
to generate, acquire and continuously
develop new knowledge and skills related
to Human Resources Development through
academic debate and application oriented
research in the human resources areas.
Besides
announcement of Board members of the
Jammu Chapter of NHRDN, two publications
of JU Business School, authored by Prof
Neelu Rohmetra, shall also be released
during the inaugural function.

lifts fourth Veeranna Aivalli Memorial

JAMMU, Dec 19: J&K
Regional Branch of Indian Institute of
Public Administration, in collaboration
with the Department of Students Welfare,
Jammu University, organised 4th Veeranna
Aivalli Memorial Debate competition, here
today.
In the
Collegiate/Departmental debating
competition, 43 students from different
educational institutions participated and
expressed their views on the topic:
In the opinion of the House
educational institutions should be
totally depoliticized.
Syed Abid
Shah of Acharya Shri Chander College of
Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) was declared
first in the debate and the Veeranna
Aivalli Memorial Running Trophy was
awarded to the ASCOMS team.
Gopal
Sharma, Director General of J&K
Police, alongwith JU Vice-Chancellor Prof
Amitabh Mattoo, ADGP Ashok Bhan and
former Chief Secretary Sudhir S Bloeria,
handed over trophy to the winning team.
Swarna Aivalli, wife of Late Veeranna
Aivalli, was also present in the prize
distribution function.
Second
position was bagged by Anju Kumari Sharma
of Jaan College of Education while Noulin
Saldanaha of GCW Gandhi Nagar was
declared third.
Consolation
prizes were given away to Sapna Kumari of
Adarsh College of Education, Uma Trivedi
of Government College for Boys, Udhampur
and Manik Arora of SPMR College of
Commerce.
Speaking
on the occasion, DGP Gopal Sharma
expressed his opinions on the topic and
stressed that educational institutions
should have a pragmatic and balanced
environment even as students must be
aware of political developments.
He also
assured all possible support to the
Indian Institute of Public Administration
from the J&K Police for organising
such programmes.
Prof
Amitabh Mattoo said that Jammu University
was grappling with the same issue which
was deliberated in the debate. Opposing
the motion, he stressed that ideological
issues must be debated in varsities and
educational institutions. "Politics
is not a dirty game of power but
understanding role of power, building
nation and ideology," he said.
Sudhir S
Bloeria, who is chairman of IIPA, J&K
Regional Branch, also expressed his views
on the topic and said that while
practicing politics, transparency and
fairness must be taken into account.
Exchange of ideologies in educational
institutions, which are training grounds,
should be encouraged, he opined.
Earlier,
ADGP Ashok Bhan presented a formal
welcome address and threw light on the
life of Late Veeranna Aivalli, in whose
memory the debating competition was
organised.

Keshav Sharma, Dean Students Welfare,
presented vote of thanks.
Political
groups support Jammu Bandh call of JKNPP

JAMMU, Dec 19: Various political
parties today offered support to the
Jammu Bandh call given by the Jammu and
Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP)
on Dec 22 to press for demands of Jammu.
Addressing
a joint press conference with Prof Bhim
Singh, Janta Dal (Secular) leader Dhanraj
Bargotra, Janta Dal (United) leader
Sanjesh Gupta, Jammu Mukti Morcha chief
Prof Varinder Gupta supported strike
call.
The
leaders demanded implementation of Wazir
Commission recommendations, constitution
of delimitation, political reservation
for Scheduled Tribes (Gujjars and
Gaddis). They also demanded safe, secured
and honourable return and rehabilitation
of Kashmiri and Jammu migrants to their
respective homes and relief in cash and
kind to the migrants of Doda, Mahore,
Gool, Rajouri and Poonch as per
directions of the Supreme Court.
They also
demanded citizenship for West Pakistani
refugees while as adequate compensation
for displaced people of PoK. Due and
equitable representation to Jammu and
Ladakh in civil secretariat and in
Government departments was also demanded.
Furthermore allocation of funds for the
development of Jammu and Ladakh region
was also demanded in the press
conference.
The
representatives of these political
parties expressed concern that even
though these demands formed part of
Common Minimum Programme (CMP) agreed
upon by all the partners in the coalition
Government yet the Government never cared
to implement these demands thus playing
frauds with the aspirations of the people
of Jammu region.
They said
that people of Jammu have been compelled
to adopt agitation approach to seek
justice for the people of Jammu region
from Poonch to Kishtwar and Lakhanpur to
Banihal. The appealed to the people of
Jammu to make Jammu Bandh a success.

Martyrdom
day of Ashfaq Ullah Khan observed

JAMMU, Dec 19: On the 78th
martyrdom day of Ashfaq Ullah Khan, some
students organisations jointly organised
a programme on the topic Our
martyrs and the role of students at
Jammu University, here today.
Chairman
of the State Accountability Commission
Justice R P Sethi was chief guest in the
function which was organised by
Progressive Students Association (PSA),
Pahari Students Forum, Gujjar Bakerwal
Students Association and All Ladakh
Students Union of Jammu.
Patriotic
songs and some plays on the national
integration were presented by the
students. Songs highlighting social
programmes were also sung. Apharan
Bhaichare Ka, a play in which USA
was depicted as a sponsor of
anti-national and communal forces in
India, was presented by the members of
Rangyug.
Speaking
on the occasion, Justice Sethi exhorted
youth to come forward and work hard to
achieve the mission for which martyrs
like Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Bhagat Singh and
Ram Parsad Bismil had sacrificed their
lives.
He
lamented that even after 57 years of
independence, the country was still
grappling with poverty, illiteracy,
corruption, unemployment and communalism.
Describing
poverty as the biggest challenge before
the country, Justice Sethi lamented that
socialism has remained only in the
Constitution of India as capitalism was
being encouraged on the name of
liberalising Foreign Direct Investment.
"Socialism is the ultimate solution
to end poverty and students and
intellectuals should come forward to give
a direction to the country," he
stressed.
Prof Rekha
Choudhary, HoD Political Science, also
spoke on the occasion and appealed the
students not to get involved in biased
ideology of any organisation. University
is the centre where intellectuals are
shaped up and the students should utilize
the forum to exchange ideologies for a
healthy society, she said. Rozy,
secretary PSA, threw light on the
activities of the Association.

judicial officers

B.A. Khan, Chief Justice of the State
High Court today inaugurated month long
Foundation Course for Batch 2003 Judicial
Officers at J&K High Court Complex
here.
Mr.
Justice (Retd) O P Sharma, was appointed
as Honorary Director of the Academy by
Chief Justice.

R.C.Gandhi, Justice N.A.Kakroo, Justice
Hakeem Imtiyaz Hussain, Justice
J.P.Singh, Justice (Retd) Muzaffer Jan,
Advocate General A.H.Naik, and Judicial
Officers were present on the occasion.
Emphasizing
the need for organizing more training
programmes for judicial officers and
judges at all levels and to come upto the
expectations of the general public,
Justice Khan asked the Judicial Officers
to take full advantage of the training
course, devised meticulously by the
organizers.
Earlier,
Director Judicial Academy in his address
underlined the importance of Foundation
Course for the officers selected for the
course. He expressed hope that the course
would adequately train the officers to
discharge their duties efficiently.

appreciated re-activisation of Judicial
Academy.
During the
training programme eminent Judges and
Jurists are expected to interact with the
trainee officers.
34th
Governing Body meeting of DRDA held

JAMMU, Dec 19: The 34th
Governing Body meeting of District Rural
Development Agency (DRDA), Jammu was held
here today to review the progress.
District
Development Commissioner Jammu Hirdesh
Kumar Singh presided.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mr Hirdesh Kumar urged
upon the officers and Bankers to work in
close coordination for achieving better
results. He asked the Block Development
Officers to prepare proposal for
arranging four training camps for the
benefit of trainees of Jammu district.
The
members of the Governing Body asked to
prepare the list of all the Swarozgaries
financed in the past alongwith the list
of SHGs so that they could arrange
interaction with such groups and generate
awareness about the programme. For the
successful implementation of the SGSY,
stress was laid on the preparation of
projects by the line departments
alongwith the training modules for the
activities identified.
The Deputy
Director Floriculture, District Animal
Husbandry Officer and District
Horticulture Officer assured that they
will prepare such projects and submit
them within one month.
One
killed, 9 injured in road accidents

JAMMU, Dec 19: An army
jawan was killed and nine others were
injured in separate road accidents while
as a man died under suspicious
circumstances.
Police
spokesman said that an army jawan was
killed when official vehicle met with an
accident in Rajouri. He was rushed to
hospital where he was pronounced as
brought dead.
Police has
taken cognizance of the incident.
In another
accident, three persons were injured in
collision between a mini-bus number
JK08A-6208 and gypsy near Degree College
Kathua. All the three persons were rushed
to District Hospital and their condition
was stated to be out of danger.
They have
been identified as Parveen Kumar, Daleep
Singh, son of Maan Singh of Nagrota and
Khilar Singh, son of Isher Dass of
Kathua.
Meanwhile,
six persons were injured in separate road
accidents and have been hospitalised.
Their condition was stated to be out of
danger when reports last came in.
They have
been identified as Dosat Mohd, son of
Gulam Mohd of Pacca Danga, Joginder
Singh, son of Lal Singh of Bakshi Nagar,
Manohar Lal, son of Gurdyal of Kunjwani,
Talib Hussain, son of Naseeb Hussain of
Sidhra and Asif Hussain, son of Ayub and
Imran of Sainik Colony.
A
manJanak Raj, son of Sham Lal of
Doda was found in unconscious condition
by Gandhi Nagar Police last night and
shifted to Government Medical College
Hospital where he died.
Police has
initiated inquest proceedings under
Section 174 CrPC.
Meanwhile,
one Joginder Singh, son of Naseeb Singh
of Rajouri died after consuming poisonous
substance at his residence. He was rushed
to District Hospital Rajouri where
doctors referred him to GMC Jammu but he
could not fight for his life and died.
It could
not be ascertained as to whether he
intentionally consumed poison or
swallowed the same mistakenly.

among 2 killed as Army vehicle skids into
gorge

RAJOURI, Dec 19: Two Army personnel
including a Junior Commissioned Officer
(JCO) were killed when an Army vehicle
skidded of the road and fell into a gorge
near village Sarnu on Kalakot road today.
The mishap
occurred at round 9.30 am today when the
ill-fated 3-ton vehicle was on its way to
Rajouri town from Sailsui near Kalakote,
about 35 kms from here. At a sharp curve
near village Saranu, a few kilometers
from Rajouri town, the vehicle went out
of control and rolled down the gorge.
While,
Naib Subedar (JCO) Chuni Lal of Raj
Rifles, was killed on the spot, Sepoy
Santosh Kumar Patel from the same unit
succumbed to his injuries in the Military
hospital, Rajouri this afternoon.
Over-speeding was state to be the reason
behind mishap by the villagers of the
area.
