Speaking in
mother tongue
Sir,
This letter is in
reference to the musical evening, staged by Pt
Shiv Kumar Sharma, on 27th Nov. 2005 in
auditorium of Jammu University. Pt Shiv Kumar
Sharma is an internationally acclaimed 'Santoor
maestro'. In his brief address to the audience he
emphasied the need to save and preserve our
'Sanskriti' and cultural heritage. He began with
Hindi and jumped to English in the middle of his
speech. This transition creates a confusion, if
he advocates the need to know, respect and
presence our culture and Sanskriti. Personally, I
feel, language forms the backbone of any culture.
Respect and wide use of Hindi and Sanskrit should
be the first step in restoring our cultural
heritage. Invasion of English has already
triggered the erosion of our ancestral languages.
There is no denying the fact that Hindi films
have played and are still contributing
significantly to the spread of Hindi. English
stands at top of the rest. Bollywood actors earn
their name, fame and money from Hindi films. But
majority of them, speak in English, when
interviewed by a newspaper or a news channel.
This reveals, the degree of respect, they inherit
for Hindi.

Subject scheme of studies
Sir,
Kindly refer to
the recent Academic Notification No: (Acad-C)-5th
subject/B/05 Dt 24-11-2005 issued by the
Director-Academics J&K (BOSE) published in
your esteemed daily Dt : 27th of Nov. 05, where
under the five subject scheme of studies has been
implemented and introduced for class XI and Class
XII in all the Higher Secondary (10+2) schools of
the J&K state besides making it compulsory to
offer and pass all the five subjects instead of
four subjects as notified earlier. This is a
welcome decision which will surely benefit the
teacher staff & the students to gain
knowledge of the subjects like information
technology, functional English, Environmental
Science, Computer Science, Bio-Chemistry and
Bio-Technology etc well within the premises of
the (10+2) schools instead of attending other
private or Govts Institutions.
The subject scheme
has been well and nicely divided into the IV
Groups i.e Group I (Humanities), Group II
(Science Stream), Group C (Commence stream) &
Group IV (Home Science Stream) with a varied
choice of subjects which will certainly &
surely prove fruitful and result oriented
provided implemented and taught and learned
properly. The Director Academics really deserves
appreciation for this step.
Well ! the above
arrangement has been done rightly to benefit the
students and to improve the Academic standard in
the state but it is a matter surprise that the
teaching staff for the maximum of the aforesaid
subjects is not available to all the schools as
the posts for Functional English Environmental
Science, Inf Technology, Bio-Chemistry and
Bio-Technology etc have not been created and
filled up so for the teaching purpose and all the
arrangement made is without the creation and
filling up of the posts most preferably from the
in-service experienced teachers which needs a
proper attention by the concerned authorities.

Reform Education System
Sir,
During last fews
days some voices were raised against Ministers of
State Govt for not taking oath in regional
language announcement of CM to start teaching
local languages right from class Ist and
misappropriation of public funds in the purchase
of Microscopes in the department of Education.
Much has been done
doing past three years to reform the education
system. Some more suggestions are made to improve
the system further :-
The official
language of our State is Urdu and Hindi is
national language. English is also an important
language to enable people to compete in all
fields on international level. So we should be
liberal in the matter of oath taking in anyone of
those languages. To ensure good physical
condition of children bag load of unnecessary
books be reduced:
Only NCERT books
prescribed by Govt be introduced for all classes
in all Govt as also privates schools. It is seen
that unnecessary books/Science note books are
prescribed by school authorities for students who
are forced to purchase these on notes notes which
is a corrupt practice ego. The students of Ist
class should have only three text books of
Hindi/Urdu, English and local language and equal
number of notebooks plus one note book for Math.
Home work be reduced.
To improve the
hand writing old system of writting on wooden
states, stone states be introduced for Primary
classes.
For structure in
Private institutions & pay students of
teaching staff thereof need urgently be strem
hired and published for general information. To
avoid corrupt practices, the system of purchase
of stores needs to be stream area for all.
Yours etc...
