Addressing a press conference here today, senior Member of the Federation and former president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Ramesh Chander Gupta and senior vice president of the Federation Ved Parkash Gupta said the decision is adding to the problems of trading community in the Ware House/ Nehru Market which are the hub of business activities in Jammu.

They appealed the administration to understand the problems of traders and find a way out. When there is no ban on movement of trucks to and fro in Sabzi Mandi, Kunjwani and fruit Mandi why the truck movement has been banned in Ware House, asked Ramesh Gupta ?.

Mr Gupta said the ban on the movement of trucks will lead to scarcity of essential commodities in Jammu and other places and it will directly affect 5000 people including 1000 businessmen, 1500 employees and 3000 laborers working in Nehru Market and Ware House daily.

Ramesh Gupta said it is the market of global competition and when the traders are not allowed to do business during day how can they compete in the market, he asked?

CM urged to frame high-level committee for redressal
of traders’ grievances

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Dec 3: To unitedly raise their grievances, trading community of Jammu and Srinagar today decided to form a coordination committee and urged the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to constitute a high-level committee to discuss the problems of the traders and find out amicable solution.

Addressing a joint press conference, president of Associated Chamber of Retailers Federation Yashpal Gupta and president of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation Mohd Sadiq said that the traders of both Jammu and Srinagar have realised that their grievances would get redressed only when they unitedly raise their problems that too from a common platform.

"The framing of coordination committee is unanimous decision and getting grievances of the traders redressed would be its main aim", they said and added that the office bearers of the committee would be announced at Srinagar later this month.

Visualising a ray of hope in new Chief Minister, they appealed him to frame a high-level committee to discuss the grievances of the traders and find out solution and regretted that so far State Government has not taken the grievances of the traders seriously.

"Even after six months of its implemention, confusion continued to prevail over the Value Added Tax (VAT). Most of the Government officers are not fully aware about the VAT thereby causing financial loss to the traders", they alleged and said that even there was no uniformity between the rate of interest on several articles under VAT in Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining states.

The height of harassment of the traders can be gauged from the fact that even those items are not being released at Lakhanpur which are not taxable under VAT, Mr Gupta alleged and appealed the Chief Minister to provide succour to the traders in the State.

Mr Sadiq wanted to know from the new Chief Minister as to why the traders are not being taken seriously and said that due to the adamant attitude of the Government the traders have been suffering huge loss.

"We had demanded amnesty on old stock but the same was not entertained by the Government. Even the restriction on entry of the heavy vehicles in the city areas has created problems for the traders particularly of Kashmir Valley because they cannot keep their business establishments open till late hours because of militancy", he added.
