Medical shop inside Sarwal Hospital

Sir,

Sarwal Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in the Jammu city. It caters to the needs of a big population of Sarwal and its surroundings. Day in and day out huge rush is witnessed in the hospital.

Though the hospital provides many facilities to the patients, it does not have the facility of medical shop within its premises on the pattern of SMGS Hospital or Gandhi Nagar Hospital. There are many medical shops outside the hospital, but they remain closed during nights and strikes, curfew etc. As such patients suffer terribly. They have to run here and there to get medicines. Sometimes, one gets panicky on not finding medicines in the local market.

Therefore it is requested to the Health Minister and other concerned officers, to open a medical shop within the hospital premises. So that medicines are available round the clock and at cheaper rates.

Flawed KAS exam process

Sir,

I was really amazed to know about the fact that the J&K Public Service Commission is going to conduct yet another examination for Kashmir Administrative Services on the same outdated, unstandardized and ill proven pattern which has been condemned by the time and again.

This examination offers the highest coveted posts to the aspirants. The candidates selected in the said examination are made to function as some of the highest dignitaries of the Government. So utmost care ought to be taken to select the deserving and competent persons only but this cannot be ensured unless and until the selection procedure is free from all the possible lacunas. The procedure adopted for selection of candidate by J&K PSC is quite different as compared to the one being followed by PSC's of other states and UPSC where moderation is done for the papers which are by convention or otherwise, considered as less scoring. For instance, candidates opting for Arts Subjects in the said examination are usually awarded less marks as compared to their counterparts opting for Science subjects. This is quite unjust for the entrants because in the current scenario, despite their working and attempting all the fully and correctly, lesser marks are awarded to them which results in spoiling of their future. Concerned authorities connected with the awarding of Marks and Selection of the candidates in J&K PSC are requested to adopt the proper procedure as is being done in the other PSCs/UPSC Exam so that the deserving entrants can get justice.

Menace of stray dogs

Sir,

The people of Jammu have lot of expectations from the newly elected Jammu Municipal Corporation, but I being a student demand only one relief from its mayor and that is to contain and remove the terrific terror and menace of stray dogs and other cattle roaming in the streets as well as on the roads of our city which are generally attacking the school going and other children.

One must believe, that our parents do not let us move in the streets all alone because of this menace and generally it is seen that not only the students of nursery to primary standard are supported by their elders but even the students of middle and upper classes are supported by their elders in the streets from homes up to main road to board the school buses and when the students come back from school in the afternoon, they fear a lot of attack from stray dogs and other cattle. This way we children have become handicapped and dependent upon our elders even for moving in the streets, which is really unwanted burden and shame for us. Had there been no terror of these animals, we could have become independent and bold enough to stand on our own legs and spare all our elders to do other domestic or social works instead of standing by us.

So far as the threat of stray dogs is concerned that must be taken very seriously. It can claim the precious life of any of us and otherwise also as we know the normal treatment after biting is the strong and painful anti-rabies - injections coupled with lot of other medicines, which too do not ensure hundred percent survivals. So this way, if one becomes victim of these stray dogs and dies, who shall be responsible to the concerned family. Can the victim be brought back! No, not at all! Only the precautions can prevent an untoward incident.

Not only this, even the excretion of dogs scattered in the streets and on the roads is also posing a great nuisance so far as sanitation and hygiene of we people is concerned.

In this regard about one and a half years back, I had projected the same problem of stray dogs, through this paper but nothing has been done in this regard so far, perhaps for the reasons that previously the set up of corporation was different and now the hope is that there shall be quick action because of the involvement of local councilors and the Mayor.

No compromise on Kashmir

Sir,

With reference to expected talks between the Indian P.M. Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Musharraf, on Kashmir, during the latter's visit to the capital on 17.04.05, to watch ODI cricket match, between India & Pakistan, the Indian leaders must not get oblivious of the Resolution passed by the Parliament of India on 22.02.1994 which declares unambiguously and firmly that the State of J&K has been, is and shall be an integral part of India.
