Menace
of stray dogs
Sir,
The people
of Jammu have lot of expectations from
the newly elected Jammu Municipal
Corporation, but I being a student demand
only one relief from its mayor and that
is to contain and remove the terrific
terror and menace of stray dogs and other
cattle roaming in the streets as well as
on the roads of our city which are
generally attacking the school going and
other children.
One must
believe, that our parents do not let us
move in the streets all alone because of
this menace and generally it is seen that
not only the students of nursery to
primary standard are supported by their
elders but even the students of middle
and upper classes are supported by their
elders in the streets from homes up to
main road to board the school buses and
when the students come back from school
in the afternoon, they fear a lot of
attack from stray dogs and other cattle.
This way we children have become
handicapped and dependent upon our elders
even for moving in the streets, which is
really unwanted burden and shame for us.
Had there been no terror of these
animals, we could have become independent
and bold enough to stand on our own legs
and spare all our elders to do other
domestic or social works instead of
standing by us.
So far as
the threat of stray dogs is concerned
that must be taken very seriously. It can
claim the precious life of any of us and
otherwise also as we know the normal
treatment after biting is the strong and
painful anti-rabies - injections coupled
with lot of other medicines, which too do
not ensure hundred percent survivals. So
this way, if one becomes victim of these
stray dogs and dies, who shall be
responsible to the concerned family. Can
the victim be brought back! No, not at
all! Only the precautions can prevent an
untoward incident.
Not only
this, even the excretion of dogs
scattered in the streets and on the roads
is also posing a great nuisance so far as
sanitation and hygiene of we people is
concerned.
In this
regard about one and a half years back, I
had projected the same problem of stray
dogs, through this paper but nothing has
been done in this regard so far, perhaps
for the reasons that previously the set
up of corporation was different and now
the hope is that there shall be quick
action because of the involvement of
local councilors and the Mayor.

No
compromise on Kashmir
Sir,
With
reference to expected talks between the
Indian P.M. Manmohan Singh and Pakistan
President Musharraf, on Kashmir, during
the latter's visit to the capital on
17.04.05, to watch ODI cricket match,
between India & Pakistan, the Indian
leaders must not get oblivious of the
Resolution passed by the Parliament of
India on 22.02.1994 which declares
unambiguously and firmly that the State
of J&K has been, is and shall be an
integral part of India.
Yours
etc....
