KPs'
return
Sir,
This has
reference to Dr. Farooq Abdullah's
statement at barnai, Jammu published in
the Daily Excelsior that, "The
Pandits can only return after a
meaningful dialogue is held with
Pakistan,'' The statement is far from the
facts and to conceal the ground reality.
Actually Pakistan is not the problem for
KPs'. The hurdle to the return issue is a
section of Kashmiri Muslims who have
petty vested interests to keep Pandits
away. They have so far been able to
dilute Kashmiriyat, secular traditions
and Kashmiri ethos. They are the people
who proclaimed terrorist activities as
'Tahreeq'- (A great movement) that is the
obvious reason the popular slogan like
'Hindu Muslim Sikh Itihad Zindabad 'never
echoed after 1989.
The N.C
too changed it stances. Omar Abdullah
advocating for separatists recently
stated, "Why should the separatists
trust the Centre''. There may be
ultimately some agreement on peace
between India and Pakistan but it shall
not necessarily solve K P problems.
The
leaders have lost grace and grip so they
have to tow the line of masses whether
right or wrong. The ugly situation of
1990 mass exodus of KPs' when the faith
and trust shattered, the cordial relation
between the neighbourers of the two
communities disappeared. Suddenly the
local face of the social environment
became dreadful. The outer elements were
guided, lead and directed by the local
ones. The mainstream politicians and even
bureaucrats also changed their style and
approach. In these circumstances how
Pakistan is responsible for KPs' return.
It will be in the larger interests of the
nation and Kashmiri ethos to solve the
problems of the repeated exodus of KPs'
Dr. Abdullah secularist by inheritance
may please play a meaningful role for
this human cause.
Yours
etc...
