Mangat inaugurates Airtels operation in Jammu region Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: The Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma today formally launched Airtel operations in the Jammu region. The function to launch Airtel cell phone was held in the presence of the Chairman and Group Managing Director of the Bharati Telecom, Sunil Mittal. Mr Mittal handed over a mobile set along with an activated Sim Card to the Deputy Chief Minister. Addressing the function, Mr Mittal expressed satisfaction over response received by the company. He said that Airtel has received overwhelming response from the customers. He assured the subscribers that company will provide best services to them. He informed that towers have been installed from Lakhanpur to Baramullah for providing quality services to the customers. He said that the Airtel was the first private telecom operator to launch its cellular services in the State. Only post-paid connections were available as of now as the company had not started its pre-paid services due to security concerns. Airtel will initially offer cellular services in 46 towns of the State and later expanded to 100 towns by March 2005, he announced in the function. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister informed Mr Mittal about steps taken by the coalition government to improve law and order situation in the State and to attract private sector. He assured Mr Mittal of every possible help in expanding business in the State. Chinese delegations hold Border Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: A Border Personnel Meeting between Indian and Chinese military delegation was held at Chushul in Ladakh today. The proceedings started with the reception of the Chinese delegation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by the Indian delegation leader Brig Deepak Khurana. This was followed by ceremonial salute to the Indian national flag by both the delegations. Brig Khurana in his address emphasised the efforts put in by the two Governments to improve good neighbourly and friendly relations between the two countries and armies. He also thanked the Chinese side for providing timely information about Para Chu river blockade, which had threatened Himachal Pradesh. Indian delegation leader said that such exchange of information goes a long way in strengthening bonds of friendship between the two forces and two border institutions. The Indian delegation also re-affirmed the commitment of the Indian side in maintaining peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control. A brief cultural programme was also organised on the occasion. Border Personnel Meetings are organised at three specific places in India (Chushul in Ladakh, Nathula in Sikkim and at Bumla in Arunachal Pradesh) four times in a year. Two times during January and June by the Chinese side and two times by India on August 15 and October 20. These Border Personnel Meetings have played a significant role in resolving the differences at local levels and have been instrumental in promoting friendship, mutual trust and confidence between the two armies. |
10 injured in accidents; 3 consume poison Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Ten persons were injured in separate road accidents while as three persons allegedly consumed poisonous substances at their respective residences. Police spokesman said that eight persons were injured in collision between a vehicle of security forces and Mahindra Jeep number RJ-31-G/2158 at Kala Yard under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli Police Station. All the injured have been hospitalised and their condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in. The injured have been identified as Mohinder Ram, son of Sher Ram of Rajasthan, Joginder Singh, son of Kahan Singh of Haryana, Kartar Singh of Ganga Nagar, Bidh Singh, son of Sadhu Singh of Rajasthan, Santosh Devi, daughter of Jangeer Singh of Rajasthan, Harbans Singh, son of Budh Singh, Paul Kaur, wife of Amar Singh, Jageehar Singh, son of Raishat Singh. In another accident, two personsKanta Devi, wife of Hans Raj of New Plot and Zarifa, wife of Ali Mohd of Kulgam were injured in collision between an autorickshaw and truck at Mahesh Pura. Both have been hospitalised and their condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in. Meanwhile, three personsShalu Devi, wife of Vickey Kumar of Bakshi Nagar, Asha Devi, daughter of Som Dutt of Marh and Nisha Devi of Hiranagar allegedly consumed poisonous substances at their respective residences. ST personnel seize taxable goods, impose penalty Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Vigilance wing of Sales Tax Department of Jammu has seized goods worth Rs 1,40,836 from the tax evaders. The team of ST vigilance wing conducted surprise checking of vehicles at two different nakas at Trikuta Nagar and Bari Brahmana on October 19 and 20 respectively. During checking of vehicles it was detected that items like Ready-made garments, surgical goods and Barian etc were being transported by tax evaders without any documents as specified under J&K GST Act 1962. These goods worth Rs 34000 were seized from different vehicles like video coaches and a pick up van. Besides one truck No PB 13G 6371 carrying plywood was found unloading the goods at a place other than the place prescribed in the registration certificate of the firm. The plywood worth Rs 1,06,830 was seized and a penalty of Rs 26,923 imposed and realized from the tax evaders under the J&K GST Act 1962. The vigilance and inspection team was led by Deputy Sales Tax Commissioner (V&I) Jammu Bashir Ahmed Saraf and comprised of ETOs Shiv Kumar Sharma, Showkat Hussain Kazmi, Inspectors B S Chib, Rahul Sharma, SI Mohd Saleem and Guards Pawan Kumar, Ramesh Chander, Ashok Kumar and Baldev Dutt. |

Nothing has given me more satisfaction and pleasure than making of Amar Mahal as a public monument, said Dr Karan Singh. Dr Karan Singh who presided over an impressive function organised in connection with screening of a documentary on Amar Mahal at AMML, here today, was giving the background details about his historic decision to convert the late 19th century Dogra palace to Amar Mahal Museum and Library and thus open one of the finest buildings of the state to the common man. Deputy Chief Minister, Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma, the chief guest, in his address said that making Amar Mahal as a museum and thereby dedicating it to people is the biggest contribution of Dr Karan Singh. He congratulated the producer for making a good film which will certainly excite viewers to visit the monument. The documentary on Amar Mahal which was screened at the occasion has been produced by Doordarshan Kendra Jammu (DDJ), under the direction of M.K. Raina, Ratnakar, Station Director, DDJ. In a well made 27 minutes documentary, the candid eye of the camera brought to fore the architectural grandeur, elegance, unique design of Amar Mahal. On one hand the documentary highlights the breath taking picturesque setting of the historic edifice that located at the highest point at the Eastern side of Jammu city and overlooks panormic Shivalik ranges and meandering river Tawi like a majestic sentinel. On the other, it focuses on creative use of different materials like stones, wood and bricks and the elegant artistic designs that are normally overlooked by a casual onlooker. Shot and edited by Mohit, and with commentary by Ravi Kant, the documentary will certainly act a window to Jammus heritage. M.K. Raina Ratnakar, in his address, stressed upon the need to preserve the heritage. He informed that it is his endeavour to project the heritage of Jammu. Every time, I looked at the Amar Mahal, I was fascinated to catch the architectural beauty and grandeur of Amar Mahal on film in such a way so that highly skilled architectural style could be appreciated by one and all. He said the documentary on Amar Mahal is first of the series of such documentaries planned on Jammus heritage. This will be followed by another documentary on Darbar Garh ( Mubarak Mandi). Ratnakar, referring to the art of miniature, said that the same seems to be going into oblivion. The youth have to be told about the delicacy of line and freshness of colour of these paintings, he said. He also stressed upon the need to highlight other famous places like Vaishno Devi, Raghunath group of Temples, number of Shiva Shrines and cave temples. case Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front ( JKLF) supremo, Mohd Yasin Malik and Shamima alias Shazia, who are allegedly involved in one lakh US dollar case, today appeared in the Court of POTA in connection with the warrants issued against them for securing their presence in the court. Presiding Officer Brij Mohan Gupta of POTA Court, after hearing the counsel for the accused persons, recalled warrants issued earlier. Mr Gupta also allowed the application moved by Advocate Yogesh Bakshi and exempted Shamima alias Shazia for two hearings. According to the case, in March 2002, a Police Party of Police Station Kud, during checking, had recovered one lakh US dollars from Shamima and Mushtaq Dar, who were on their way to Srinagar from Kathmandu. On enquiry, both the accused had reportedly disclosed that they had received the money from one Altaf Qadri, member APHC and the same was to be handed over to Yasin Malik. Malik was later arrested next day at Srinagar while addressing a press conference. Meanwhile, the case was adjourned today as the third accused Mushtaq Dar was not produced by Police from the jail. In other case of killing of Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel at Batmaloo, Srinagar in which Malik is one of the accused, the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI) has completed arguments and case was adjourned for the argument of defense counsel. |
DGP inaugurates additional block
at Excelsior Correspondent Srinagar, Oct 20: Director General of Police, Mr. Gopal Sharma, said that efforts are on to strengthen the infrastructural facilities in the State Police organisation in a phased manner. Inaugurating an additional block in the Zonal Crime Headquarters here, the DGP said that a plan has been drawn up to provide adequate accommodation to various wings of the police personnel all over the State. The additional block has been constructed in a record period of 3 months by Public Works Department. Mr. Sharma said that an ambitious Police Headquarter Complex has already been constructed in Jammu and steps are on to raise better facilities for the personnel at various district headquarters. For this purpose separate Police Housing Corporation and Police Construction Division have been set up which have taken up the construction of a number of buildings, barracks, residential quarters etc. and upgraded infrastructure in various Police Training Institutions. Mr. Sharma announced that more accommodation would be made available in the Zonal Crime Headquarters, Srinagar, to provide congenial atmosphere for the staff at their work places. Mr. Sharma exhorted the officers and officials of the Crime Department to work with further zeal and zest and contribute in a better way to serve the people by their dint of dedication. He lauded the role of various wings of police department in tackling the present situation and checking the crime rate in the State besides playing people friendly role. Earlier, Mr. Sharma was received at the Zonal Crime Headquarters by Inspector General of Police, Crime and Railways, A.R. Khan and SSP Crime Kashmir, Dr. A.A. tearful tributes to martyr Excelsior Correspondent SUCHETGARH, Oct 20: Member Parliament and senior Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma has assured the people of border area to take up their issues with the Centre and provide them justice. Paying floral tributes to Martyr Romesh Lal at village Kaloen near Indo-Pak border in Suchetgarh today, the Congress MP said that he was well aware of the problems of the border people. He said that he was also a victim of Pakistani shelling and had to shift during tension along the border. The issues related to the relief to the border farmers, accommodation in safer areas and other related issues will be taken up with the Centre, he maintained. Referring to the problems of ex-servicemen, Mr Sharma said he was also an ex-serviceman and will take care of their interests. He assured the Chairman of Kaloen Shardanjli Committee and former minister, R S Chib to take up the issues of one rank one pension for ex-servicemen and recruitment of general duty soldiers in army with the Ministry of Defence. He admitted that fixing criteria of Matric for youth of Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur districts for recruitment in Army and relaxing the same for the other districts like Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kashmir Valley and Ladakh up to 8th standard was discriminatory. Congratulating the villagers for showing great respect to the martyr son of the soil and remembering him, Mr Sharma said that this act will inculcate inspiration among the local youth. He also complimented the parents, Ch Chelo Ram and Mrs Krishna Devi of Romesh Lal for giving birth to a great son, who earned pride to his family and the village. Senior Congress leader, R S Chib while paying floral tribute to the Martyr, said that this 21-year-old young boy of Kaloen has attained martyrdom for the sake of our country and he will be remembered and respected for ever. He extended thanks to the villagers for extending full cooperation to the Shardanjali committee for the observing this day. Mr Chib also handed over a memorandum to the Member Parliament raising demands of creation of separate development block for Suchetgarh, link road to Kaloen, improving irrigation and power facilities in the area, implementation of one rank one pension scheme for ex-servicemen, grant of compensation to border migrants, allotment of 5 marla plots to border people, reservation to those residing within 8 kms of border belt, end to discrimination with Jammu-Kathua youth in army recruitment, creation of separate ministry of Defence Personnel in J&K like in Punjab and Himachal and probe in the killing of SPO Balwinder Kumar of Sai Kalan. Chairman, Sainik Welfare J&K, Brig K S Kotwal (Retd) also spoke on the occasion. Entire gathering of Kaloen village turned into tears, when the local school children presented a touching song, "Sun Mere Pyare Bhaiya, Itna To karte jana....... Ho sake To Rakhi Bandwane Aana...." The parents and the young sister of the Martyr could not control their sobs on the occasion remembering their dear one. |
Man awarded life term for killing wife, infant Excelsior Correspondent RAJOURI, Oct 20: Sessions Judge Rajouri, RS Jain today held the accused Sher Singh of village Dalhori guilty for commission of offence under section 302 RPC and awarded him life imprisonment and a fine of rupees 5,000. In default of payment of fine, the accused shall undergo imprisonment for one month. As per the case, Sher Singh had eliminated his wife Ashoka Devi and his infant on November 2, 1998 by a 3.3 rifle in a water mill (Gharat). The relations between the wife and his wife (victim) were strained as the accused wanted to marry some other lady. While delivering the judgment, the court held that the prosecution has proved the charges against the accused beyond any reasonable doubt. Public Prosecutor Mirza Mukhtar Ahmad appeared in this case on behalf of the State. |

Corporation playing vital role to uplift Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Strenuous and sincerity efforts put in by the J&K Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribes and Others Backward Classes Development Corporation (SC, ST & OBC) has resulted remarkable achievements in raising the socio-economic condition of the deprived sections of the society through working and extending the network of the corporation. This was stated by the Minister for Social Welfare, Mula Ram who is also the Chairman of J&K SC, ST, OBC Development Corporation in his presidential address at a 31st meeting of Board of Directors of J&K SC, ST, OBC Development Corporation here today. He said the corporation realized recovery of Rs. 1.50 crore from the beneficiaries during the last financial year while Rs. 75.80 lakh has been recovered till end of September this year which is the record recovery since the inception of the corporation. The Minister said that the corporation has set up 20500 income generating units involving an amount of Rs. 9.60 crore creating job avenues for 80000 souls. Besides, 1547 income generating units have been established by expending Rs. 19.30 crore as loan component benefiting 6020 persons. Overall employment avenues for 26504 persons have been generated under direct financing scheme since its inception. The Board todays meeting took several decisions which include authorization to the management of the corporation to construct community hall and shopping complexes for the youth of SC, ST and OBC on the community lands available with them. It also decided to give financial guarantee to the National Corporation for 10 years for lifting loan out by the J&K SC, ST Corporation for distribution among the targeted groups. The Board also approved the proposal of the management for creating promotion avenues for the corporation personnel to the extent of 75 per cent. The meeting also allowed to constitute a committee which will recommend to the National Corporation for raising the limit of subsidy on the loans advanced to the beneficiaries. Among those attended the meeting were Principal Secretary Finance, B.R. Kundal, Chairman Cum Managing Director, National SC, ST Corporation, S. Zargar for revival of Land Development Bank Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 20: The Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Abdul Aziz Zargar today called for a viable business plan to revive Land Development Bank now renamed as State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (SCARDB) in view of its significant contribution in upliftment of rural populace in mid 60s. Speaking at a high level review meeting of the Horticulture and Cooperatives Departments here today, the Minister asked for exploring all possibilities for reviving the SCARD bank as it has played a vital role in improving rural economy by providing lending facilities to the farmers. He said, it was most unfortunate that this important banking institution became the victim of undue political interference and mis-management over years resulting in accumulating of its Non Performing Assets (NPA) level to whooping Rs. 28 crore. The Minister of State for Agriculture, Ajaz Ahmad Khan was also present. The Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production, B.R. Kundal, Special Secretaries of Agriculture Production Department, M. S. Khan and G.N. Sofi, Registrar Cooperatives, J&K, Dr. G.N. Qasba, Director, Horticulture, Dr. G.S. Naqash, Managing Director, J&K HPMC, G.H. Shah, Managing Director, SCARD Bank, B.A. Zargar were also present in the meeting. While reviewing the performance of Horticulture Planning and Marketing Department, Mr. Zargar urged for expediting the process of fruit procurement under Market Intervention Scheme. The Principal Secretary, Agriculture informed that the central government has agreed to provide 50 per cent of the funds required for implementation of Market Intervention Scheme. The state government has earmarked an amount of Rs. 14 crore for the scheme this year. The Minister also reviewed implementation of Technology Mission Programme for integrated development of horticulture. Mr. Ajaz Ahmad while speaking on the occasion stressed for sustained monitoring of the execution of schemes aimed at promotion of various agriculture and allied sectors. |
No ground for arrest of cement
manufacturing Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: All the 30 units in the Jammu province have been manufacturing cement by adopting requisite guidelines of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and misunderstanding is being created about the standardisation and specifications of the products by some vested interests. This was stated by president of Cement Manufacturers Association Jammu Province Ajab Singh Wazir while talking to media-persons here today. "Recently owner of Shanker Cement Manufacturing Unit at Raya Morh near Vijaypur was arrested by the police on the charges of using brick bats in the cement but the fact is that BIS has also approved using of brick bats while manufacturing cement", he said. "Brick bat is the raw material of Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) and this is approved like other ingredients like fly-ash, clinker, gypsum, lime stone, iron ore, iron dust, clay, coke breeze and petroleum coke under ISI specification", Mr Wazir said and added that there was no ground for the arrest of the owner of Shanker Cement. He said that all the 30 small scale cement manufacturing units in the Jammu province have been producing six lakh tonnes of cement per annum and all is being consumed within the State. "We are also totally opposed to any sort of adulteration in the cement and ready to cooperate with the police in punishing adulterators", he added. |
DM Leh issues order to stop bore well operation at Skara Excelsior Correspondent LEH, Oct 20: In view of long standing dispute persisting between the Army MES 14 Corps and the residents of Skara village over exclusive use of tube well/Bore well water used by the Army at Shar-e-Chumik, Skara, the District Magistrate Leh Satish Nehru has issued an order to stop operation of tube well forthwith. The order says further that Chief Engineer CEW would find an alternate source for supply of water to Army within 15 days and the entire machinery/ distribution system of the Bore well located at Shar-e-Chumik have been ordered to be removed immediately by the Chief Engineer CEW. In this connection the District Magistrate Leh has already issued notice to the ADEO, 14 Corps C/o 56 APO but no response has been received by the DM Leh. The order reads that detrimental affects on crops, trees due to Bore well at Skara and the water being taken away by Army at a discharge of 18000 gallons per hour and Bore well running for 18 to 20 hours per day, has resulted into drying up of the vegetation in the area and depletion of water table as reported by the Executive Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Division Leh. The PHE Department Executive Engineer has also reported the adverse affects of the said Bore well on the Eco-system of Shar-e-Chumik area and also the normal flow of the adjacent nullah which is used for irrigation purposes. The Tehsildar Leh has reported that the shortage of irrigation water caused by the said Bore well and tube well has resulted in the loss of crops over an estimated area of 1100 kanal and has recommended for closure of the said Bore well. The inhabitants of Skara village in particular have highly appreciated the action taken by the District Magistrate. |

Chenab Valley Excelsior Correspondent DODA, Oct 20: A meeting of the office bearers of Chenab Valley Autonomous Hill Development Council was held, here today wherein strategy for launching peaceful agitation was discussed. It was decided to organise conventions at district block and tehsil level after November 21 and hold a Satya-Grah at winter capital Jammu besides submitting memoranda and signature documents to the Governor as well as Chief Minister. In a resolution passed in the meeting, Mufti Sayeed led State Government was strongly criticised for its bias and discriminatory attitude towards Doda. The Government is deliberately adopting a criminal silence over the demand of Chenab Valley Hill Development Council and under prevailing circumstances, people of Doda have no option than to resort to agitational path, observed the meet. In another resolution, the Government was urged to look into the grievances of Doda people who were facing a number of problems, like shortage of ration in far flung areas. Gazetted holiday on Gulab Singhs birthday demanded Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Dogra Liberation Front has appealed the State Government to declare gazetted holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh which falls on October 21. The demand was made during a meeting of the Front, held today under the chairmanship of its city president, Vijay Gupta. While addressing the meeting, Mr Gupta said that the State Government has declared public holidays on birth anniversary of many Indian and Kashmir leaders who had contributed nothing to the State of Jammu and Kashmir but despite repeated requests, Government did not announce gazetted holiday on birthday of founder of the State. The meet was informed that on October 21, Dogra Liberation Front activists will visit Jia Pota Ghat at Akhnoor where Maharaja Gulab Singh was crowned as king of the J&K State, and take a pledge to create separate Duggar State. |
BVP organises Bharat Ko Jano quiz contest Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Bharat Ko Jano (Know India) Quiz competition was organised by Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) Jammu East in Environment Educational Institute, Jullaka Mohalla today. The Competition was held in senior and junior categories. The students upto eighth standard were placed in the junior group while the students from 9th to 12 standard were placed in senior group. The sole moto behind this competition was to make the students aware of facts and figures regarding India, its culture, civilization, religion, history, geography, freedom struggle and constitution so that they can feel proud to be born on Indian soil. Over five lakh students participate in this competition every year all over India and it is one among the best projects taken by BVP. The competition started with the recitation of Vande Matram which was presided over by Satayanad Sharma, president J&K Chapter BVP. In the junior category five reputed teams of Jammu participated and the competition was conducted by Gopal Sharma secretary while the competition for the senior category was conducted by Prof. S C Anand and four teams participated in it. In the junior category, J K Public School, Panjtirthi, S D Kanya Higher Secondary School , Jullaka Mohalla and Delhi Public School bagged the first second and third positions respectively. In the senior category Delhi Public School, Environmental Educational Institute and S D Kanya Higher Secondary School , Jullaka Mohalla got first, second and third position respectively. Earlier S N Sharma highlighted the objectives and threw light on various projects run by BVP. The team standing first in both the categories will compete in state level competition to be held on December 4. J&K Employees JAC gathers support for Oct 26 strike Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Various district and tehsil level committees of J&K Government Employees Joint Action Committee continued their vigorous campaigning to muster wide-spread support for making the strike call for October 26 a grand success. In Jammu city Pardeep Kumar, Ram Kumar, Anwar Beg, Balwan Singh Jamwal, Satish Chander, Subash Chander, Parshotam Singh Chib, Suman Sharma, Girdhari Lal Chanda, Ram Lobhaya, Baldev Raj, Kartar Chand Dubey, Parhlad Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Rashpal Singh, Yash Pal and Ravi Singh visited various Government departments throughout the city and requested the employees to endorse their strike for most genuine demands. Their demands pertained to release of DA instalments, merger of 50% DA in basic pay of employees, enhancement of retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, revival of LTC and enhancement of daily wage rates etc. The EJAC leaders condemned the anti-employee attitude of the State Government and held that Government has back-tracked from its commitment made with the employees. They said they were left with no other option than to start agitational programme to get their genuine demands conceded. Meanwhile various trade unions have extended full support to the strike call for October 26 and appealed all their colleagues to remain prepared for making the strike a grand success. The organisations which have extended full support to the strike call included Jammu Kashmir Government Employees and Workers Federation, All J&K Colleges Non-Teaching Employees Association and J&K Accounts Employees Association. Lead Banks standing committee meet held Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 20: Lead Bank office of State Bank of India in a meeting held here today reviewed the progress achieved by the bank in the region. The Standing Committee meeting for district Jammu was held here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawam Kotwal. It was also attended by Addl DC Sarita Chauhan, AGM , RBI Satya Narayan, Chief Manager of SBI at Zonal Office, O P Gupta and other senior officers from various departments and banks. V K Gupta Chief Manager, Lead Bank Office welcomed the invitees and disclosed that bank sanctioned loans under various schemes to 354 cases amounting to Rs 2.82 cr against the target for the year at 4621 cases and 2054 cases sponsored by different government agencies so far. He further stated that banks have already distributed loans to 401 beneficiaries amounting to Rs 2.86 cr. Dr Kotwal said that he was not satisfied with the performance as many pending cases were still awaiting disposal with the Banks. Stressing the need for early disposal of the cases, he exhorted the bankers to take special care of the schemes like SGSY. He asked the bakers to achieve their targets under various schemes. Mehbooba welcomes Ghazala's joining PDP Excelsior Correspondent Srinagar, Oct 20: Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti has welcomed the social worker, Mrs. Ghazala Aga Syed Abdul Hussain of Shariatabad, Budgam for joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and added that joining of upright people and people having clean image was a necessity for a better political setup of the state. She said that the whole political setup could to be changed for the better only when honest, dedicated and upright people come into the political fray for becoming advocates for the solution of the problems of people. Speaking on the occasion, the PDP President said that upright and educated women joining politics should be the new catch word as the women themselves needed rise up and come to the rescue of their community, who she said, had often being ignored. Mehbooba said that whenever any policy decision would be taken in future there should be someone for the women community to raise voice for them. The Member of Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti also said that clean politics ought to crop up in the state as people now had grown politically enough mature to differentiate between good and bad and now do not accept the traditional politics, which was in vogue couple of years ago where deeds never matched words. Commenting over joining the party, Mrs. Ghazala said she had joined the party after thoroughly studying the party programme and approach of the party, which was working for the honour and dignity of the people of the state, especially the women community. She said that I want to work for the women community as this section of the community has always remained downtrodden and added that she had found PDP the best party to work with for fulfilling the aspirations of the community. |
