SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Half
of Kashmir valley plunged into
dark as an angry mob destroyed
one of the states largest
power grid stations at Sharifabad
in Srinagar outskirts today.
People ransacked the power
installations immediately after a
high-tension line snapped,
burning two primary school
students to death and causing
critical injuries to eight
others. Blatant carelessness by
Police, which neglected the
Divisional Commissioners
circular and did not restore
protection to the high-voltage
Sharifabad Grid Station, resulted
in colossal damage to Rs 50 cr
installation. Power Minister
Mohammad Sharief Niaz has
immediately ordered an inquiry
and Deputy Commissioner of Budgam
has been asked to submit his
report as quickly as
