BJP assures full support to KPs in their struggle

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 17: Asserting that no proposal on Jammu and Kashmir will be acceptable to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which ignores the Jammuites, Ladakhis and Kashmiri Pandits, the Party state chief Dr Nirmal Singh said his party will back any struggle launched by the displaced community for its rights.

Dr Singh who was addressing a rally of Party’s Migrant Cell at Sharda Temple Bantalab near here this evening asked the community to guard up their lions and be ready for the struggle. This community has suffered because it does not constitute a vote bank, he added.

He however, assured full support of his Party to the displaced people in their rights saying we were and will remain at your back.

He said the Pandits are the victims of a big conspiracy whose existence is at stake. But we have to stop it somewhere, he added.

Regarding the denial of share to Community youth in the Government jobs, he said the BJP strongly advocates that the community be given its due share from the Valley quota in Government services.

Lashing out at the return formula of J&K Government, All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC), chief, A N Vaishnavi said this move is aimed at seeking funds from Centre on the name of Kashmiri migrants and nothing else.

He, while expressing concern over the plight of Pandits said a lot of hue and cry was raised at Gujarat violence but no body talked about the atrocities committed by fundamentalists on the Kashmiri Pandits.

He said the KPs have lost all faith in present Government in J&K as it has failed to protect our rights. "Not only our agriculture land and other properties has been encroached but even religious places have been grabbed by this Government", he added.

In his address BJP Migrant Cell chief, H L Chatta, while lambasting the State Government warned it to stop the stepmotherly treatment with the community.

He alleged that the number of KP employees have decreased to 6000 from 16000 in 1990 and if this trend continues there will be no KP employee left in 2008.

He alleged that the proposal for opening of five KVs by the former HRD Minister, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi for the KPs in J&K have been sabotaged by the State Government.

Existence of saffron brigade is in danger: Sadhu Yadav

Govt non-serious to take KPs back: Takoo

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 17: Making it clear that majority community was in the favour of return of Kashmiri Pandits back to the Valley, Durga Nath Trust today alleged that both the Governments at Centre and State don’t intend to take them back and no step was being seriously initiated in this regard.

"Everybody is serious over this issue. We too want to return to Kashmir valley and majority community is ready to welcome us with open arms but the only hurdle is the non-serious attitude of the State as well as Central Governments", president of the Trust P N Takoo said while talking to media-persons here today.

He said that there have been 350 educated unemployed Kashmir Pandits youth in the Kashmir valley, who despite many odds refused to migrate, but they have not been given employment by the State Government so far and this has given birth to several questions in the minds of KPs residing in different parts outside the Kashmir valley.

"The fate of these 350 youth is giving wrong signal to those KPs who want to return to Kashmir Valley. The only thing which is kept for the KPs in the Valley right now is the search for livelihood", Mr Takoo regretted and said that in order to encourage KPs to return to Valley the Government should provide jobs to 350 educated youth, who preferred to face bullet than leaving their motherland. This step, he further said, would definitely attract the KPs residing outside the Kashmir Valley.

Expressing doubts over the policies of the Central and State Governments with regard to return of KPs, president of the Durga Nag Trust alleged that in the master plan framed by the Government not even a single old and historic temple of Kashmiri Pandit Biradari has been shown on it which indicated that Government was hell bent to remove the roots of the KPs from the Kashmir valley.

Stressing on the need to collectively raise voice against this move of the State Government, Mr Takoo gave invitation to all the KPs organisations to join hands with Durga Nath Trust in preservation of old and historic structure of KPs biradari.

"The Trust, whose property was in shambles before September 1998, has succeeded in constructing a Yatri-Bhawan at Durga Nag, Srinagar which is accommodating 300 yatris at a time and this Bhawan is single alive structure in the name of KP Birdari in Valley", he said and added that all possible steps are being initiated by trust for restructuring of Kashmiriat.

Dr Om Prakash Nakhasi, secretary of the Trust, said that the Trust has also constructed community hall at Barnai Jammu for KP Biradari and disclosed that Trust was on its way to establish a pharmaceutical college in Jammu.

Ordinary Jammuites with extraordinary passion

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 17: Apparently they are among thousands of ordinary Jammuites who earn their livelihood as shop keepers. Although forming part of the large trading community in the city of temples, Suresh Abrol and Sardar Inder Singh, stand apart from rest of the fellow businessmen for their passion of collecting antiques.

This rare hobby has made them extraordinary amongst fellow citizens. Other than fulfilling their personal yearning for collecting artifacts that exemplify the best of ancient techniques, skills and arts, the duo are inadvertently doing a great service to the cause of heritage preservation.

In present times of cultural flux coupled with turmoil and large scale displacement of communities in the State, innumerable ancient artifacts like manuscripts, paintings, sculptures and idols from house hold shrines, books, coins, small arms, furniture, ornaments et al are finding their way into the market for sale. And most of such material is slowly being smuggled out of the state by unscrupulous and anti-social elements.

Registered with State Department of Archaeology, Archives and Museums, Suresh Abrol and Inder Singh are among those antique collectors who committed to keep the examples of local artistic and cultural heritage within the State only, are buying antiques from their meager resources.

"It is our endeavor to create our private museums where general public and tourists can come and have a glimpse of our rich heritage", is how Suresh Abrol and Sardar Inder Singh want to exhibit their present collection of antiquities.

Suresh Abrol has a variegated collection which includes Sanskrit, Sharda and Takri manuscripts, coins, metal and jade sculptures and decorative objects, ornaments and other items. His prize collection also includes few specimens of miniatures from Kangra and Jammu schools. Apart from musical instruments, he also has collected old photographs. His library of manuscripts is registered as Abrol Manuscripts and Books Library.

Sardar Inder Singh’s collection mainly comprises of brass and copper utensils and manuscripts in Gurmukhi scripts. Infact his collection of manuscripts in Gurmukhi scripts includes a rare Geeta in Punjabi.

His prize collection also includes a 16th century Persian manuscript of Sadi’s Gulistasn. sardar Inder Singh’s manuscripts in Gurmukhi is most likely only one such rare private collection in the State.

Labeled as janoonis or eccentrics by family members who treat their spending of money to buy antiques as squandering of precious resources, energy and time, Suresh Abrol and Inder are nonetheless pursuing their passion with a single minded sense of dedication and commitment.

Today other than State museums- repositories of objects ancient art, culture, the antique collectors like Suresh Abrol and Sardar Inder Singh are the rare individuals who driven by an inner passion are collecting antiquities to preserve heritage for the posterity.

Cong damaged interests of Jammu region: Chaman

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 17: Former Union Minister and a senior leader BJP leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has ridiculed the claim of leaders of Congress-PDP coalition that success of their candidates in four state assemblies during recent by-elections was endorsement of the policies and functioning of their Government and alleged that it was yet another repetition of playing foul with the poll process.

Sharply reacting to the statements of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed and others in the Government, Prof Gupta regretted that they should have learn the lessons from the history. He alleged that the misuse of executive, failure of the election authorities to respond to the complaints about the misuse of Government machinery and police, has caused a blow to the confidence in the ballot which was restored in this troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir after a long time in last assembly elections conducted during Vajpayee led NDA regime at the Centre.

Prof Gupta recalled that in the first elections in 1951 National Conference backed by Congress leadership in Delhi had manipulated elections to the extent that in the 75-member assembly, the ruling leaders had 71 members unopposed and even in the remaining four seats the victory of the ruling party nominees was ensured with the result that the first assembly of the state was having not a single member from opposition. He further pointed out that 1957, 62 and 67 elections were marred with menance of ‘unopposed’ success of the Cong-NC candidates each time and in many areas the people could not see even that what is ballot. Wrong were done in 87 elections and even that was admitted by Mufti Sayeed.

The BJP leader alleged that Congress has caused much damage to the state and ignored the interests of Jammu region in particular. He said no major promises were fulfilled by coalition Government and it has failed to deliver goods to the people.
