Air, naval wings of NCC to be raised in J&K: Mufti Excelsior Correspondent NAGROTA, Nov 28: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said that the raising of air and naval wings of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Srinagar and Jammu are under the active consideration of the Government adding this would fulfill the aspirations and desires of the youth of the J&K state. Mufti Sayeed was speaking at the NCC annual day here at Sainik School. Deputy Director General NCC, J&K, Brig. K. D. Malhotra, former Minister R. S. Chib and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Lauding the role of the NCC in spreading the message of unity, patriotism and secularism among the youth of the country the Chief Minister said the contingent is acting as a reservoir of disciplined citizens in the country. He said since its inception in 1948 the Corpse has played an important role in national integration and discipline. Today, he added, NCC is the largest youth organization in the world. Complimenting the cadets and officers of NCC for revitalizing its activities in the State once again, the Chief Minister urged the officers of the Corpse to channelize the energy of the youth to make them self reliant and responsible citizens of the State. He praised the efforts of the NCC in the field of community development like tree plantation, blood donation camps, AIDS awareness and national integration saying the organization has paid due attention to the youth of rural and remote areas. Complimenting NCC for the empowerment of women, the Chief Minister said the seven NCC girl cadets of the State forming the nucleus of the team of ten all women Mount Everest International Expedition proved the girls of the state are second to none. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also released the NCC journal-J&K Cadet. The Chief Minister on this occasion invited 100 NCC cadets for a weeks skiing trip to Gulmarg from December 24 and another 100 cadets to Pahalgam on the eve of new year. The selection of the cadets would be done by the NCCs J&K directorate. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling in the school premises and inaugurated a blood donation camp set up by the NCC on the occasion. In his welcome address, Brig. Malhotra gave a resume of the activities and history of the NCC. He said the organization was raised in 1954 with a strength of 600 cadets which at present rests at 20,000 cadets. A variety cultural programme was organized on the occasion. Later, the Chief Minister interacted with the officers and cadets of the NCC. |

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMu, Nov 28: Dr. Sudhir Singh Bloeria, Chief Secretary, J&K Government, observed that even after more than 50 years, there is no authentic official history of war in India and lamented the absence of non-availability of proper war record. He was speaking in his presidential address at a function held in connection with special screening of Sarbjeet Singhs film Historic Battles Fought in Ladakh and exhibition of paintings and sketches, at the University of Jammu, here today. Commenting about the film, Dr. Bloeria, whose doctorate thesis was on the Battle of Zojila, said that it was history framed in frames. He said that it goes to the eternal credit of famous film maker the brilliant depiction of the events of historic 1948 battle of Zojila. Organised by University of Jammu (JU), the function, in which Sarbjeet Singh was present along with his wife Santa Sarbjeet Singh, provided an opportunity to view the well made film, a visual history of the military operation of 1948 to which the film maker was an eye witness. Sarbjeet Singhs film which combines archival footage along with later day updated shooting, has a special focus on the military feats of Indian army and civilians under the command of Gen. Thammiya, who had the audacity to think of taking tanks to Zojila to rout the Pakistani raiders. Sarbjeet Singh pointed out that if Gen Thammiya, had not taken the timely decision the country would have lost Ladakh for good to the enemy. Prof Amitabh Matto, VC, JU, while thanking the film maker for donating two panoramic Himalayan mountianscapes and sketches for the University museum, gave details about the future projects of the University. Sh Sat Pal Sahni, advisor to JU, while introducing his friend Sarbjeet Singh, informed that how the duo was witness to the battle of Zojila being first war corespondents of the country. Mr. Sahni regretted that till date there is no War Museum in the State to highlight the five historic battles fought by India army in J&k. Earlier Prof Devinder Singh, Dean Students Welfare, JU, welcomed the guests while the vote of thanks, though a bit long one, was presented by Mr. Pritam Singh, Assistant Dean, Students Welfare. Jesus school celebrates Tiny Tots day Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, Nov 28: Tiny Tots Day was celebrated by the staff and students of Infant Jesus School at Hiranagar today. The parents of the students and several prominent persons of the area also witnessed the students performance. Shelly Sharma who secured 17th position and Rasmeet Kour who stood second in order of merit in class 10th for the same session were honoured on the occasion. More than 25,000 Kashmiri refugees in 15 PoK camps MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 28: More than 25,000 people from Jammu and Kashmir are living in about 15 migrant camps spread over Pakistan occupied Kashmir (pok), officials have said. This migration from Jammu and Kashmir has taken place after 1990 when militancy erupted in the State. Many of them are from the border areas. However, there are more than 35,000 non-registered refugees in PoK, the officials added. Giving figures, they said more about 14,000 refugees are living in nine camps in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan occupied Kashmir. About 3500 of them are staying with locals. More than 4500 refugees are living in four camps in Bagh district, about 5000 in two camps and some locals in Kotli district and more than 470 Mirpur and about 100 in Rawalakot districts. The officials said a one time grant between Rs 750 and Rs 2000 per family is given to the refugees on their arrival here. Besides a subsistence allowance of Rs 750 per head while Rs 840 to the head of the family is also given. They said Rs 1000 is given as grant in case of death while medical facilities, electricity, drinking water, education and books to students are provided free of cost. The Indian media delegation visited the Manakpayan camp no 2 in the PoK capital last evening. The officials said Rs 100 per month is given to students of class 6th to 10th as education allowance while Rs 150 per month for higher education and Rs 100 per month for students memorising the holy Quran. They said a disability allowance of Rs 100 per month is given to disabled persons. Besides, schools and Mosques, industrial centres have been established in each migrant camp. (UNI) |
Three killed in road accidents Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: Three persons were killed, 10 others received injuries in different road accidents during the last 24 hours. However, body of one Ghulam Qadir Khan was found in SRTC truck at Batote. Reports reaching here said that a tipper of GREF, which was on its way to Lam from Nowshera, rolled down in a nullah. One person namely Hukam Singh of Pulharni died on the spot and driver of the vehicle namely Mohinder Singh got injuries. He has been shifted to Nowshera Hospital for treatment. In another incident, one Ajay Kumar, 26, son of Tara Chand was killed when a tractor trolley, in which he was travelling, turned turtle at Hamirpur near Rajbagh on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway. A case has been registered in this regard. One Tilak Raj, who was injured in a road mishap, succumbed to his injuries at GMC Jammu today. He was injured in a road accident between a motor cycle and truck at Tarore at Jammu-Pathankote National Highway on November 20, 2004 However mystery shrouds death of one Ghulam Qadir Khan, driver, whose body was found in SRTC truck bearing registration number 0156-JKO2Y at Kunfar Nullah near Chanderkot, Batote. A case has been registered in this connection and police have started investigation to ascertain cause of his death. Meanwhile one Darshana Devi wife of Gharu Ram of Dharian received injury when she fell down from a scooter at Khour. One Sanju Singh of Chankhatrian Hira Nagar injured at road accident at Chan Khatrian. Three persons namely Om Parkash of New Plot, Sanjeev Sharma of New Plot, Kumar Dalwra of Ustad Mohalla, Subash of Rehari, Sanjay Kumar of Kunjwani and Mannu Prashad of Rehari were injured when two matadors collided near Shakuntala Theater today. |

It is an organisation, which has played a vital role in bringing the youth together hailing from different regions of this vast country and help them share thoughts and views. Through its manifold activities and programmes, it has nurtured the youth of the country into secular and patriotic minded citizens. The NCC cadets have helped the cause of nation by promoting voluntary blood donation, mass literacy, fighting the evils of dowry and drug addiction and also environmental improvement programmes like tree plantation, assistance in times of calamities, social development projects, aids awareness seminar and focusing on national integration are praise worth, said Brig. Malhotra. He said, the NCC over the years has grown both in stature and strength in keeping with the motto of Unity and Discipline. Mahant Manjit Singh of Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch was the special invitee. Various political, religious and social personalities participated in the function. The Ragi Jatha of Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar and local Ragis recited Shabad- Kirtan. While addressing the gathering Minister of State for Finance, Babu Singh said that every person should follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Devji Maharaj for bringing peace and equality in the state. He recalled the sacrifices of the Sikh community for other communities and said that Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh was doing good efforts in the field of religion and education. Former president SGPB S S Wazir in his address said that about 200 years ago there were only 16 Sikhs in J&K state and it is only due to the efforts of Dera Nangali Sahibs saints that population of Sikhs comes out in lakhs. Mahantji stressed upon the Sikh Sangat to maintain the love, equality among every section of the society and further said that Guru Nanak Devji always loved the poor and down-trodden. literary meet Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28:The creative and artistic facet of Ayaz Rasool Nazakis personality, presently working as Registrar, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology, Jammu, was brought to public focus, in a literary meet followed by an exhibition of his sketches, here today. Ayaz Nazaki, the son of the celebrated Kashmiri poet Mir Gulam Rasool Nazaki, burst onto poetic horizon from 1999 onwards with wonderful English translation of his fathers Rubaiyaat, and his own poetry books in Urdu and Kashmiri languages. He was recognized not only as the chip of the old block but also a poet with individuality and unique sensibility that combines contemporary thinking as well as inclusive and composite nature of his native culture. Organised by Rasa Javadani Memorial Literary Society, the meet the author porgramme, which was held at the Seminar Hall of Abhinav Complex, started with welcome address by Prof Shohab Malik and followed by a critical paper on Ayaz Rasool Nazakis poetry by Asir Kishtawari. Later Nazaki, shared his initiation into the world of poetry with the audience. Referring to his poetry in Kashmiri, Nazaki reiterated that what one can say in mother tongue can not be expressed in any other language. The literary programme was attended by galaxy of academicians, writers, poets, media personalities including Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Prof Devinder Singh, Prof Zahoor-ud -Din, Shabir Mujahid, Bashir Qadari and Farooq Nazaki. Later, the exhibition of Nazakis sketches in the Abhinav Art Gallery, was inaugurated by Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Minister for Finance. The exhibition reflected upon one more facet of poet's personality. The sketches infact are doodlings that starting from random play of lines, have acquired representational and some times abstract shapes. Appearing by the margins of pages with poems written in nastalik script, or on plane white sheets, these reflect poets thrill in discovering spontaneous shapes without any anticipation. An artistic insight into poets expression in lines has been well explained by Rajinder Tikku, the well known sculptor, in his write up in Nazakis catalogue of the exhibition. Todays functions marked with the presence of political, cultural Kashmiri elite and Ramesh Mehta, Secretary, J&K Cultural Academy, was enough indication that the cultural scene of the winter capital has started with a bang after a lull. |
Govt fully committed to provide medicare to people: Suman Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: The 9th annual conference of Indian Dental Association (IDA) was inaugurated by the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mrs Suman Bhagat , here today. In her inaugural speech, the Minister said that the Government was keen for providing adequate medicare to the people in Jammu and Kashmir. She called upon the doctors and other staff to work with zeal and sense of service. Hitting out at those doctors and others who are posted in rural health institution but staying on in capital cities, she reiterated that they will have to work in rural areas where their services are needed most. She said it is her " final warning". Lamenting that essential equipment for hospitals could not be procured and Rs 44 crore lapsed last year, the Minister assured that this year the purchases would be made well in time. She expressed the hope adequate funds will be made available for better medical facilities to the people. Referring to the Indian Dental Associations conference, she lauded it as it provides ample opportunity for out experts to change knowledge with their professionals in other parts of the country. The deliberation of this conference would lead to fruitful results. Dr Gautam Mengi, Principal of Govt Dental College, Jammu who is also chairman of IDA, J&K Chapter underscored the need for upgrading dental care services in Jammu and Kashmir. He cautioned that the prevalence and severity of dental diseases in our country, including in J&K State, is increasing and so the problem should be attended to by taking both preventive and curative measures. Dr Mengi expressed the hope that with the setting up of the Dental College at Jammu shall provide opportunities to the J&K students to study in their home State, Postgraduate Dental Surgeons will get employment as faculty and the people will get better dental case service. The IDA chief demanded separate Director of dental services at Divisional levels and chief dental surgeons at district headquarters for rendering better oral health care service to the people in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Kailash Kohli, Director, Health Services, Jammu also spoke on the occasion. Life time achievement awards were given by the Indian Dental Association to Dr Netar Prakash Gupta, Dr Gautam Mengi and a number of other dental experts. A Charter of Demands listing their demand for streamlining and strengthening of Dental Health services in J&K, early filling of vacant posts of dental surgeons, creation of directorate of dental services, and provision of soft loans and incentive for setting up dental clinics especially in rural areas, was presented to the Minister for Health. Various scientific sessions were held at which experts discussed the latest knowledge and techniques in the dental medical science. The experts exchanged views in it. Members of IDA, staff and students of Dental College, Jammu participated in the conference. Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, Minister for Power Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Minister of State for Finance Babu Singh, Minister of State for Transport Raman Bhalla, Minister of State for Revenue Dr. Romesh Chander, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs S. Manjit Singh, Minister of State for Education Ghulam Nabi Lone, Senior Congress vice-president J&K Abdul Gani Vakil. In the programme, Mrs. Bhagat took stock of the problems of the people like Community Hall, Sewerage System, metalling of main bazar road, lanes and drains cleanliness of surrounding nallah, electricity upgradation of Mahatma Gandhi Park, Construction of shed at Christians grave yard and upgradation of Girls High School Slehar to Higher Secondary School. She stressed need for speedy completion of on-going development works in her constituency. She sanctioned Rs. 9 lakh for purchase of new dumper and 10 containers from her constituency funds. Pura highly appreciated the initiative of the Health Minister in holding such an Ru-Bru discussions wherein maximum of their problems were solved immediately. Mr. Madan Lal Sharma assured to render all possible assistance to the masses on the recommendations of the concerned MLA. He assured to sanction Rs. 7 lakh for construction of community hall in the area. Mr. Niaz said that the Government is making concrete efforts to provide regular electricity to all the parts of the state especially in the remote and backward areas. He sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh out of APDRP funds for improving the power supply in the R. S. Pura constituency. Highlighting the achievements registered under education sector in the short span of time Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone said that over 32000 unemployed youth were provided jobs under Rehbar-i-Taleem scheme. He said further efforts would be made to achieve cent percent literacy in the state. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Romesh Chander said that within 15 days he would be visiting every tehsil of his constituency to ascertain the problems of the people and make quick redressal on-the-spot. He said the concerned Patwaris, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars would participated in the public meet. Mr. Babu Singh said that the Government is well aware of the problems being faced by the people and initiatives have been taken to mitigate the same. He assured that the cases regarding finance would be solved without any delay. Appreciating the improvement in health sector, Mr. Bhalla said that the grievances regarding non-supply of ration quota should be brought into his notice for speedy action. He said that free ration would be provided to the poor, down trodden people. S. Manjit Singh announced upgradation of R. S. Pura court and said that people need not travel all the way to Jammu for their cases. The Ministers appreciated the Ru-Bru programme organised by the Health Minister and pledged to convene similar programmes in their constituencies also not only for face to face interaction with their people but also early redressal of their problems. Action Committee Chenab Valley Council warns agitation from January Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: To accelerate the movement for grant of Hill Development Council status to areas falling in Chenab Valley, the All Party Action Committee, Chenab Valley Hill Development Council has warned to launch agitation from January next year in support of its demand. This was stated by the chief patron of the Committee, Sheikh Abdul Rehman while addressing a press conference here, today along with his secretary Hari Krishan Ticku. Prior to it, the Committee will hold conventions on block , tehsil and district level to mobilise the public opinion in favour of the demand, he added. Criticising the State Government Sheikh Rehman said there is a lot of resentment against it which too has neglected Chenab valley like the previous Government. He said Darhal has been granted the tehsil status and Nowshera Sub District status, but no steps are being taken to create more tehsils in the Doda district when the distance of various villages from Tehsil Headquarters of Kishtwar is over 100 kilometers. Highlighting the problems of the area, he demanded that one Sub Regional University under the proposed package be set up in Chenab valley area. Besides a Development Authority be also created for the area. Stoutly denying the charges that the creation of Chenab valley HDC was communal in nature, he said our aim is the development of this area which has been neglected during 57 years of independence and not to exploit the people on communal lines. He said the area is facing lot of discrimination at present too. Though Government is talking of starting new projects and construct more roads but in Doda district the work has been closed on Paddar, Pangeh road linking the district to Himachal Pradesh. He said to maintain a check on the ongoing works being constructed under the Centrally sponsored schemes, his organisation has constituted a nine member Vigilance Committee. Referring to recent package announced by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for J&K, he demanded that the backward and far flung areas be given their due share in it and local representatives of the area be taken into confidence before formulating the plan for Chenab valley. Besides he demanded opening of Degree colleges in Ramban and Banihal, promotion of tourism in the area and construction of alternative National Highway from Pathankot to Srinagar via Basholi and Bhadarwah. |
Peace with dignity our sacred mission: Mehbooba Excelsior Correspondent BANIHAL, Nov 28: PDP president and MP Ms Mehbooba Mufti while addressing a public gathering at Banihal said that restoration of peace with dignity is our sacred mission adding that the mission would be pursued with an act of faith. She said that Kashmir problem requires solution of its both internal and external dimensions that is why PDP emphasis on developing trade ties with neighbouring country to improve the shattered economic conditions of the people of J&K, Ms Mehboob maintained. Responding to the demands of the people, she asked the cabinet Ministers accompanying her to take immediate measures to solve problems of the people. Speaking on the occasion the Agriculture Minister gave a detailed account of the achievements of the coalition Government on political as well as developmental fronts. He said militancy raged state witnessed an economic boom during the coalition regime adding a record number of tourists visited the state this year. He said innovative schemes of Rs. 100 crores like Technology Mission, Market Intervention schemes and development of live-stocks were launched to bring all round socio-economic transformation in the State. Usman lays foundation stone of hospital Excelsior Correspondent BANDIPORA, Nov 28: Minister of State for Planning and Development, Usman Majeed yesterday laid the foundation stone of Rs. 6.50 crore Sub- District Hospital building at Nasoo- Bandipora in northern Kashmir. The 50-bedded hospital building of community health centre type will have 10 wards with all medicare facilities including provisions of Oxygen Plant and residential facilities for doctors. The hospital would be completed within next three years. Besides, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Mr. Dheeraj Gupta, Army, BSF and civil officers attended the function. Ex- MLC Habibullah Bhat was also present. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that present Government is abreast of the problems being faced by the people particularly in rural areas and efforts are being made to provide all basic amenities especially medicare, power and drinking water facilities to the people. He assured that coalition Government would take every step to mitigate the sufferings of the people especially those who are living in far flung areas. He urged the people to cooperate with the administration for implementation of developmental process launched by the Government in the State. The Minister said that Government introduced several welfare schemes in the State and accorded priority to the development of neglected areas. He said number of road projects and rural development works have been taken up in Bandipore Assembly constituency under various Centrally sponsored schemes at a cost of Rs. 6 crore. He said people of the State have already suffered a lot during previous years and now present Government has taken several steps for the socio-economic development of the State. The Minister appreciated the role of the residents of village Nasoo, who have provided 53 kanals of land for the construction of this hospital. The Forum while welcoming the new Director School Education Manoj Dwivedi, appreciated the steps taken by him regarding ban on mid-session transfers, settlement of cash-in-lieu cases of employees by decentralising powers to the concerned DDOs. The House also discussed the problems being faced by DIETs personnel due to attachment/adjustments of in-experienced lecturers as a host of people have been adjusted in DIETs without consideration of their disciplines against the posts of senior grades thus making the DIETs non-functional. The House was grateful to Director School Education for solving the long pending problems being faced by the employees of the Education Department in general. The steps initiated by the Director School Education, soon after his joining, has reduced the convention of corruption in the Directorate. M/S. Suraj Cement Stores, Srinagar, run by a lady, was also awarded Rs.10, 000 for her performance in marketing the JK Cement. Among others, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Raman Mattoo, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce A. Sahasaranaman and Managing Director, JK Cements Ltd, Mian Mushtaq Ahmad besides other senior officers of the company were present on the occasion. Addressing the Distributors , the Deputy Chief Minister appreciated their role for increasing the sale of JK Cement in the State and announced that five awards would annually be given to workers for recognition of their meritorious work. He said excellence achieved by the company is the collective effort of the management, workers and distributors together. The Deputy Chief Minister also announced that Govt has approved installation of another cement plant at a cost of Rs. 64.16 crores at Khrew with a production capacity of 600 MTs thus doubling the production capacity of the company. While referring the performance of JK Cements, the Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the role of Managing Director, JK Cements Ltd in not only increasing the production and sale, but also in checking pilferage particularly in purchase of Cole. Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma dwelt at length the role played by the present Govt in creating investment atmosphere in the State, which has shown positive results. He said that in Kashmir valley, the Govt is contemplating to exploit mineral resources in a big way particularly the marble deposits of Kupwara district. He also welcome the investment in wood based industry in the valley. While addressing on the occasion, the Minister of State of Industries Raman Mattoo dealt briefly about the over all increase in the consumption of cement in the State. He said that consumption of the cement in the state increases12 % annually compared to 10 per cent average at national level. He said 20 per cent investment made in the hydle power sector with alone be in cement. Referring to the PMs reconstruction programme, out of 18000 crores to be spent in power sector approximately 3600 crores will be spent on cement. He said that it will be a big challenge to the cement industry in the State. While enlisting the performance of the Company, MD stated that a record turn over of Rs.39crores has been achieved in the current financial year till date which is 40 % more than corresponding period of the last year. He said that the production has also been increased 29 % during this period. He informed that the sale of cement has crossed 1 lakh MTs during the current financial year till date. |

Dr Lone accompanied by Director School Education Jammu yesterday paid surprise visit to various educational institutional of Jammu city and its surrounding areas. The institutions inspected include State Institute of Education, (SIE) College of Education, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Jammu, Dewan Badri Nath Higher Secondary School TalabTillo and Migrant Higher Scondary School, Roop Nagar Muthi. During his visit, the Minister found two lecturers and eight faculty members of College of Education Jammu absent from duty and directed the concerned authorities to take immediate action under rules against them. The Minister was apprised that the new complex of SIE is under construction at a cost of Rs 1.56 crore. He was also informed that 474 teachers of Primary and Middle Standard were imparted training in different courses and subjects taught under NCERT during the current academic session in DIET Jammu. The Minister during his visit also inspected various blocks and departments of the institutions and took stock of the facilities available. Dr Lone also interacted with the students and teachers of the inspected institutions and knew about the problems of the teaching community assuring the teachers their early redressal. IWDP workers meet DyCM, demand regularisation Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: A deputation of Integrated Watershed Development Project led by union leaders Ganesh Dutt and Laxman Singh met the Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma and sought his intervention in regularisation of the daily rated workers of the Project. The union affiliated by INTUC met the DyCM through INTUC secretary Jugal Kishore Sharma last evening. The workers, who are on agitation for the last 42 days alleged that some bureaucrats were creating hurdles while Minister for Forests and Environment G M Sofi had assured for giving due consideration to their case. The workers who are sitting on dharna at Project Chiefs office at Narwal alleged that they only faced exploitation at the hands of senior project officers despite the fact that they are the real gross root level field workers behind the success of the project. They also said that project need dedicated and thorough professional officers for all the five main sectors of the project for better results. The workers urged upon the Dy Chief Minister to take up the matter with CM for early regularisation of about 270 daily rated staff members. Theft of Shivlingam strongly condemned Kashmir marching towards Islamisation: JKVM Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM), in an emergency meeting, condemned the theft incident of ancient Shivlingam from Shiv Temple situated at Chakka river at historical place of Martand Tirth, Kashmir. National general secretary of JKVM, H L Bhat, while taking serious note of the incident said that government which can not preserve the incident temples and shrines of Kashmiri Hindus cannot claim that they are taking care of every community. Mr. Bhat told that such type of incidents on religious faith shows that Kashmiri was not marching towards peace but towards Islamisation. He said that there was not only encroachment of other shrines and graveyards, but also on the lands of temples. He appealed to government to take into consideration the faith of Hindus and action should be taken for recovering the Shivlingam with immediate effect. The additional general secretary of JKVM M K Bharat said that such type of incidents took place at the moment when the newly elected president and general secretary of Purohit Sabha Martand Tirth had to take the oath at Jammu. Army initiates another step to improve lot of backward people Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 28: The Army has initiated another revolutionary step to mitigates miseries of the inhabitants of backward areas of Jammu region and improve their economic conditions. This time the counter insurgency- Romeo Force of the Army has invited Dr Anil P Joshi and his dedicated team of women workers of the HESCO from Uttranchal in Dehradun and they will be holding a biotechnology workshop to impart instruction to the local women folk in post harvesting technologies and value addition to local cereals. A workshop in this connection was held on Saturday which was attended by approximately 300 women from Fatehpur and Rajouri. The response of the women to the demonstration has been overwhelming. A medical camp was also held alongwith the workshop where the medical problems of the participants were attended to by a team of the Army and civilian doctors. Women folk of Rajouri, Thanamandi, Surankote and others places were taught about how to make Ladoos out of Maize (Makki). These could be offered at the Vaishno Devi Shrine as Prasad and could fetch good income to the ladies. They were also taught about making incense sticks and package them simply. The team was also informed about how to preserve fruits. This could be done by power supplied by uprated water mills being installed by Counter Insurgency Force Romeo.
