Misuse of public money

Sir,

The article 'Misuse of public money' by B D Sharma is thought proking and in public interest.

The author has given a description of the ways public money is being misutilised by the bureaucrats and ministers.

It has become customary for these 'privileged' people to use public infrastructure for their personal ends. They enjoy and live a luxurious life at the cost of poor men. While State employees are not getting their DA or COLA instalments, the Government officials make merry. As a result, common man is suffering terribly. This has in turn encuraged corruption in the Government offices. We hope that if the Government is sincere for the public welfare, it should take steps to effectively check the misuse of money.

Garbage dumps

Sir,

Apropos of the article 'growing garbage' published in the Sunday Magazine of the Daily Excelsior, it may be said that citizens area not well aware of environmental issues. Had they been, they would not throw garbage carelessly on roads and drains. Most shocking is the fact the shopkeepers through every single piece of papers plastic, cartons, and other useless item in the drains. They don't care to collect it first, then burn down the combustible subtances. The easiest way for them is to find an opening on a drain and demp it there. This has at places choked the drains chock-a-block.

For safe disposal and protection of our environment, there is a need to take an integrated waste management approach. Garbage is a mandatory function of the municipality, yet they have failed to carry out its duty to full. This does not mean that public has no responsibility. They have to share their responsibility by making mohalla committees to find ways to overcome this problem, locally and work in tandem with the municipality.

Illegal Bangladeshis

Sir,

This refers to the editorial 'Foil the menace' published in the Daily Excelsior on Nov 22.

The editorial has raised an important issue which if neglected may have wider repurcussions not only on the state politics and economy but also of the country.

Though both the State and Central Governments are aware of the problem, they prefer to remain as mute spectators. The problem of influx of Bangladeshi migrants has been raised several times by the media, but not with a missionary zeal. This is matter of national importance, and nation can ignore it only at /her own peril.

What is happening in North-East India, particularly in Assam is before us. The demographic change in that region is changing the living and cultural pattern of society. Moreover, ISI is using them for fulling its nefarious designs. The NDa regime which had in the beginning of their rule raised this issue with much fanfare but they too neglected it with the passage of time. How strange! More strange is the fact that police does not have any law to deal with this problem. The editorial has said very well: "No further time should be lost in detecting and deporting illegal Bangladeshis''.

Installation of letter box

Sir,

I want to draw the attention of Senior Postmaster, General Post officer, Jammu towards the grievances of the people residing in Sabzi Mandi, Moti Bazar, Kali Jani, Parade and Raj Tilak road, about the wrong installation of Post Office Letter Box. The existing letter box is in the premises of Electric Station and behind the Taxi Stand at Parade and it is not visible to any-body who is on the road. This Box is located at a hidden place and hardly any person belonging to the adjoining area knows it. One has to go the GPO Kachi Chawni or Purani Mandi to post a letter.

Therefore, it is requested that the said Letter Box may please be removed from the present place and be installed on the road side anywhere in Parade area.

Hope, the concerned authorities will redress the genuine demand of the people.
