Reduction in forces

I

Sir,

Understanding the gravity of the situation, growing deterioration in the strife-torn state of J&K State, the landmark decision announced by Dr. Singh in curtailing the chunk of forces is laudable and deserves accolades for his unpredictable venture. He has really translated his ideas into action which shall remain ever green in the annals of History.

With his terse and to the point acumen, he has successfully executed the open heart surgery to the surprise of all, to boost the morale of the people, a step forward to meet the aspiration and expectation of the people.

Economic packages and similar other incentives delivered for the development of the state in the grim situation are all meaningless and abortive as they can hardly change the growing hatred, repugnance, sense of alienation which tends to wax with the barbaric behaviour and approach of unscrupulous elements. How long such nasty things will continue and remain untreated needs our immediate attention.

The state needs a political solution, a safe conduit to embark on confidence building measures to bail out the people from the crisis and immeasurable mayhem.

People want peace at any cost and not senseless politics. Politics is not a trick, it's an art of governance acceptable to the masses. Politics is all waste and base unless we put the contents of humanism in politics. Nation is in need of political stalwarts like Dr. Singh able to judge and realize human urges and aspirations, keen to disentangle the skein of complicacies.

I hope our PM will sort out all the issues and differences relating to the state on similar lines with his counterpart, allowing the people to heave a sigh of relief. Rigidity and inflexibility is no solution for the vexed lapse. Prudence demands that we should bow before reality and accept the truth.

The situation in the state demands indepth study and solution if we want to free the state from orgy of violence and bloodshed. In this backdrop, it will be worthwhile to :

1. Allow Hurriyat members or any other relevant party to visit Pakistan to push and pursue peace process.

2. Involve intellectuals from the state as interlocutors.

3. Involve all the relevant representative of the state in the talks who alone have the status to decide their fate.

4. Political solution be given top priority as it has an edge over all other packages and incentives.

The delay in any form germinates crisis and crimes.

II

Sir,

The decision to reduce the number of forces in the State will have two consequences. Either it will help in improving bilateral ties between the two countries or there will be escalation in the terrorist related activities.

Now only time will tell which of the above two would make its presence felt. Till then, let's wait and watch.

No third party intervention

Sir,

This has reference to the news item "Indo-Pak composite dialogue..." published in the Daily Excelsior. This is not for the first time that India has ruled out third party intervention on Kashmir issue. Time and again, India has clearly reflected that Kashmir problem can solved bilaterally only. Numerous efforts have been made by the vested powers to meditate on Kashmir issue but India is firm on its stand not to let the problem get further complicated.

India has at her disposal resources and werewithal to solve the issue peacefully. What is required is that Government of Pakistan has to change its hardline approach on this issue.

Yours etc...
