Holistic approach to education system

Sir,

This has reference to the news item "100% accessibility to primary education" published in the Daily Excelsior on Nov. 10.

It is heartening to read that the Government's initiatives have begun to bear fruit.

If is state is to keep pace with other fast growing states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka etc, it is necessary that the people are literate enough to meet the challenges to technological onslaught. Though the working of education system has improved considerably, more needs to be done on this front. The first thing is to improve infrastructure in all the education institutions of the State. All present, schools in the remote parts of the states are without adequate staff and infrastructure. There would be no qualitative change unless facilities are improved in the schools. Besides, adequate qualified staff be provided in these institutions.

The other aspect that needs to be taken into consideration is to solve the problems of teachers. The teacher fraternity is suffering on account of pay anomaly and other problems. Therefore, it becomes essential that if education system is to be improved in the State, a holistic approach should be framed for it. Otherwise, paltry treatment would do no good to the system.

Symbol of nationalism

Sir,

This has reference to the article 'Stop mud-slinging on Savarkar' published in the Daily Excelsior on Nov. 9.

There is no doubt that Savarkar is a symbol of patriotism. To dishonour him would be to dishonour nationalism.

If today we would treat a nationalist in this manner, then I doubt whether there will emerge another nationalist tomorrow.

It is our duty, our religion to treat the people who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of country, as national heroes. We should follow their teachings and seek some guidance from their lives. They are our inspiration and we can learn how they have survived trails and tribulations.

Perhaps, that would be the greatest tribute to them.

Police must act efficiently

Sir,

I want to draw your attention towards the heinous crimes in the state like rape, murder, extortion, theft etc. These are the crimes which are threat to the state and its reputation as well our policemen are doing well to curb these social menances, they know their duty well. But at the same time they go out of track. Sometimes innocents are caught in the problems created by miscreants or culprits and police take innocents to police stations and harass them. This also affect their reputation and sometimes police personnel use to do such things which people have never expected. They use to drag young boys and girls out of the place like restaurants and other places which are quite open.

Sometime, they use beat innocents during eve-teasing drive. There are so many major problems of the state, militancy is one of them. So they should do something to curb and solve problems rather than making big issue of smaller problems. The recent case of former Miss Jammu 2001 is one. Those involved should be dealt according to law. Law is supreme and body is equal before law. Police shouldn't have made big issue of former Miss Jammu, if she comes under law, she should be punished but what this bigger issue would do ? It will give chance to others to escape from being caught who are involved is this sex racket. Therefore, our police should ''Nip the evil from the Bud'' and concentrate on the major problems of the state.
