Predicament
of women
I
Sir,
This is in
reference to a write up entitled "Of
Woman and her predicament" by Dr.
Aruna Gupta in DE dated 25.04.2004.
Indeed one
can not afford to be ignorant in this
social set up that a woman is being
discriminated in every sphere of life.
Ofcourse women, by certain physical
attributes are undoubtedly different from
men. But no element of superiority or
inferiority prevails as for as mental
status, social understanding, competency,
responsibility and individual
capabilities are concerned. In some
fields men lag far behind women and vice
versa.
Woman
despite of her pious place in Indian
mythology is still beset with some
psychological chronic mental hazards. It
is a fact that few eves have done good
work to exert themselves in this male
dominating society but there is still a
lot of ground to be covered before a
major breakthrough is achieved.
The major
areas that require immediate attention,
lie within woman itself which contributes
to a greater extent to the low status of
woman in the society. This is her own
mental set up. Woman has to built up a
very strong mental urge to fight against
this oppression, discriminations framed
against her. Thus every woman on her own
develop a strong will power to secure a
proper place consistent with her
capabilities at par with her male counter
parts. This mental toughness and firmness
is the only key of success and good
fortune. Remember, battles are first won
in the mental cosmos and later fought in
the battle field. Efforts put in this
direction by few members of the fair sex
are mostly confined to urban areas and
are not adequate so far.
Another
critical area of thrust is to bring
change in woman's behaviour and also in
psyche. It is a saying that "a woman
is another woman's enemy. The best
example one can give is dowry deaths
deaths where females are held more
responsible than their male counter
parts. Secondly, their liking to bear
male child etc. So woman must respect
herself and feel pride to be a female.
This will certainly give boost to a woman
to assert her identity without any
complex. Mothers must not discriminate
daughters, set them free for they do have
wings, to fly and soar high with a sense
of freedom i.e. equal opportunities in
the field of education and career.
Women are
very wise, intelligent, sober, graceful
& an important component of the
society and contribute directly to the
upliftment of the society and help in the
formation of a strong nation. It is,
therefore, suggested that suitable
measures, even through legislations (if
needed) ought to be adopted by all of us
for securing proper, suitable and
respectable place for these fifty percent
homo-sapiens. This also calls for
evolving suitable curricula at community
level to be operated uniformly throughout
the country. This will serve the purpose
of justice, fair play and help us to look
brighter side of this colourful
suppressed section of the society.
Yours etc.....
