Of politics and politicians

Sir,

Truly said by a scholar that if a nation will be slaved for one day it will suffer for one year and if a nation will be slaved for one year, it will suffer for 100 years and same is the case of our nation i.e. "India" which got independence after a slavery of more than 800 years together. After fifty-seven years of independence instead of gaining confidence to meet up the challenges of big population, maintain of natural environment, social security, women rights, proper growth of young generation, poverty, education and a safe living of all citizens we Indians are now used to read or see the scam NEWS daily through media and every scam this way or that way is related with our politicians who are now habitual of telling lies in their statements by shifting the responsibilities here and there. One Urdu poet very rightly said "Syasat Ki Alag Ek Zubaan Hai-Likha Ho Jo Ekraar Inkar Parna". and an unfortunate development is that present lot of our politicians badly failed to maintain some good things/systems of British rule e.g. as per our ancestors if a train had ever reached two hours late at some main station it was in head lines of the news papers of that time whereas now we have to enquire about the right time arrival/departure before moving towards a railway station.

Maximum of our Indians have to travel through railways daily and in the recent past the repeated rail accidents have put a question mark before them. After every accident our ruling politicians announce an enquiry and opposition benches walk out the Parliament after blaming the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister without a proper discussion related to the reasons and the remedies of these frequent accidents. Infact they deliberately avoid to perform this important duty as they very well know about the consequences which never suit them because of their vote banks as they are well aware about the reasons behind e.g recruitment/promotion of incompetent technical persons due to the out dated and ineffective policies and extra ordinary interference of the trade unions.

Now in the present circumstance biggest challege before an Indian is "Secured survival" whether it relates to our transport means, hospitals or justice, who will peruse these politicians? The reply will be only public of India, and when we observe them it is to be admitted that less than five percent of its literate class is able to assess the ground realities and very few of them are prepared to work for the nation which is total unfortunate and nothing else. My humble appeal to those few is to come forward for creating the awareness or motivation among the masses regarding the dangers around us created by our own people as politicians as bureaucrats and others with the feeling "God help those who help themselves'' and peruse our political system for framing some strict laws to counter the worst.

Streamline water distribution

Sir,

For the last few days, I am very pleased to read the Minister of PHE, Qazi Mohd Afzal has taken some initiative in streamling the distribution of water supply and punishing the guilty officials in some areas. The goondaism and favoritism in drinking water utilization is so high in Jammu city that it is already one of important mental tension and friction in localities. People with power and political clout manage to get as many connections as they can, while the poor and weak people don't get a single bucket of water. There are localities in and around Jammu where drinking water rises to the third floor of the houses, while their immediate poor neighbours have to dug deep pits to get a single bucket of water. These cruel people do this by installing valves on the main water pipe and release the water to the unfortunate people at their sweet will. I have observed that the engineers of PHE or PWD are morally so low that they not only work as per the dictates of politicians but even under the directions of petty locality heads. Politicians also cannot escape the blame. Even senior ministers have been found writing D.Os for providing water connections not to the Secretary or senior Engineer level, but to as low as to the Inspector level.

I may remind here that all religions consider offering drinking water to others a highly sacred act. Now if there exists God, what punishments do such people deserve who deprive big localities from drinking water for their lust for over comfort and greed. I may inform the Minister that the poor people particularly handicapped, infirm and old suffer a lot of mental and physical agony for lack of water.

I may also remind here that the ex-PM of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee had time and again reminded that future wars would be for water.

The drinking water is a thing of survival particularly in the hot climate of Jammu province. As it said better late than never, the action against the culprits right now may stop the fast multiplying water grabbers, otherwise, in future it would need herculean efforts to set the system right.

In the end, I urge the media, PHE deptt and police to work together for equitable and just distribution as well as utilization of water.

Yours etc...
Ashok Bhagat,
Patoli
