Safaikaramcharis ordered Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Dec 26: Srinagar, the major city of Kashmir since ancient times and the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to regain its lost glory with present Government adopting a multi-pronged development strategy, the highlights of which were unfolded today. A presentation on restoration and revival of the city was made at the review meeting of Srinagar District Development Board held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd Sayeed. The plan attaches significance to sectors like road communication, drainage and sewerage, drinking water, handicrafts, heritage restoration, health, housing and conservation of water bodies. In the road sector, Rs. 139 crore would be spent in the city. The important projects to be taken up include Lal Bazar-Botakadal-Hazratbal road, Jahangir Chowk-SKIMS road via Karannagar, Qamarwari-Parimpora road, Miskeen Bagh-Rainawari, Naidkadal-Khanyar road, Babarshah-Khayam East and West Foreshore road and Kohnakhan-Karannagar road. At least, 10 bridges would be constructed. These include Tankipora, Kanikadak, Barbarshah, Arampora and Ganiwan bridges. Five flyovers would also be built. These development works are besides the major ones already under execution like the Rs. 4.6 crore North South Corridor, Rs. 168 crore 4-laning of National Highway By pass, 6-laning of Batamaloo-Qamarwari road and Dalgate-Zakoora road. A Rs. 9 crore project for upgradation of Indira Gandhi road is also under execution. The urban development is also in focus where shopping malls, commercial complexes, slum clearance and infrastructure upgradation is receiving special attention. The multi-facility Sangarmaal complex is coming and would have craft bazaar, shops and offices, multiplex and conference hall and a childrens park. Similarly, the Lal Chowk Mall complex is coming up. The citys cultural scenario is also poised for a massive uplift. A project of Rs. 3.15 crores has been formulated for the development of the famous shrine of Hazratbal and its surroundings. The development of the shrine of Shams uddin Iraqi involves Rs. 1.75 crores. The fencing and landscaping of the Idgah is going on with a rapid pace. The project involves expenditure of Rs. 2.01 crores. The beautification of the Jama Masjid has been completed incurring an expenditure of Rs. 1.06 crores. In the area of heritage restoration, the gutted building of the Government Arts Emporium has been reconstructed in its original form. The reconstruction of the building cost Rs. 4.28 crores. The old recreation spot of the city, the Badamwari, is being developed as an amusement park catering to the demand of the downtown Srinagar people. For the preservation of the Dal Lake, a comprehensive plan is being implemented under which 1205 families have been rehabilitated in 8 colonies. A new site has been identified to accommodate 2000 families at Chandpora, Harvan. As a positive outcome of the dredging in the Dal, 40 per cent transparency has increased in the lake water with a corresponding reduction of 30 per cent in nutrient build up. In the Hazratbal lake basin, 1450 kanals have been dredged out equivalent to 19.36 lakh cubic meter landmass. About one kilometer of lake area has been retrieved. Also, 608 unauthorized structures have been removed from the lake. Three sewerage treatment plants with a cumulative capacity of 14.9 MLD are under construction. In the housing sector, Rakh-e-Gund Akshah has been identified for the construction of modern housing colony with all amenities. Likewise, in the health sector Rs. 34.36 crores have been earmarked for the upgradation of the Government medical College, Srinagar and associated hospitals. At least 100 beds would be added to the Medical College. A Regional Cancer Centre is being set up at the SKIMS, Soura. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today ordered Srinagar Municipality to immediately engage Safai Karamcharis on contractual basis. Responding to a point raised by legislator, Mohammad Sayeed Akhoon in the review meeting of the District Development Board Srinagar, the Chief Minister said that the matter needs immediate attention. He directed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, to immediately engage 100 Safai Karamcharis on contractual basis. The Chief Minister ordered the Power Development Department to immediately commission the Receiving Station at Khurhama, Ganderbal. He said the local population had complained to him that the receiving station was already completed but is not being commissioned. He said that with the availability of additional power from the northern grid, the two hour cut in power supply after every two hours would be done away with in a couple of days. Responding to a point raised by another legislator, Shah-e-Jehan Dar regarding paucity of funds for restoration of Khushaal Sar, the Chief Minister asked the Finance Minister, Mr Muzaffar Hussain Baig to arrange one time funding for the purpose. In reply to a point raised by legislator Mian Altaf Ahmad regarding the construction of Gujjar/Bakerwal Girls Hostel, the Chief Minister directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to personally look into the matter. During the review meeting of the District Development Board, Srinagar about the physical achievements during the period under review under R&B sector, the meeting was informed that out of 190 works taken in hand, 170 works stand completed and blacktopping, metalling and soiling on 55.29 kms, 68.02 kms and 27.22 kms of road lengths have been completed respectively. Besides, 3997 Kms of pacca and kacha drains were also completed during the period in Srinagar district. Under the rural development sector, out of the 424 SGRY works 246 stand completed and financial assistance among 39 IAY cases out of the target of 166 has been disbursed among the beneficiaries. |
Sadhotra accuses Cong of befooling Jammu people Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Accusing Congress of befooling Jammu people, provincial president of National Conference Ajay Sadhotra called upon the party workers to remain united to fight the forces which are working against interests of Jammu and giving hollow slogans. Addressing meetings of Jammu-East constituency and Ward number 59 at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu and Ploura, respectively, he alleged that Congress has failed to fulfill the promises made with people of Jammu region. People of Jammu voted Congress to power on the promise that the Chief Minister would be from this region and Wazir Commission report will be implemented but both the promises were not fulfilled, he said. Further, Mr Sadhotra added, since the last two years the coalition Government has created a history of rigging and manipulating elections with the result that a wrong signal is being given to people of the State that the Government can get any candidate elected without enjoying support of voters. Claiming that National Conference has always ensured equal development of all the three regions of the State and the party fought to highlight problems of Jammu people, Mr Sadhotra assured that the party would continue to fight for strengthening democracy in the State.. The members stressed upon the State Government to take note of various demands of the employees working libraries under the School Education Department. Demands highlighted in the meeting, included implementation of Government order number 821-Edu of 23-10-86 and creation of post of District Library Officer through DPC, rationalisation of library staff, filling of all vacant posts of Librarians, Junior Librarians, Library Assistants and Library Bearers through DPC and fresh recruitment, supply of books according to the latest syllabus keeping in view the need of clients and time to all educational institutions. The meet also demanded that Librarians should be deputed for computer training and other oriental library courses. The ALA meet also appreciated and hailed the formation of Pay Anomaly Committee on Education Department for submitting the report to the cabinet with recommendation for approval of pay anomalies existing in the different pay scales. NMC activists to stage dharna in front of Parliament Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: To press the Government for setting up sixth National Pay Commission, activists of National Mazdoor Conference will stage a dharna in front of Parliament House on opening day of the ensuing budget session. This was stated by NMC president Subash Shastri while addressing a meeting of workers, here today. The Shastri also urged upon the Prime Minister and Union Finance Minister to intervene into the matter personally and appoint the Commission so that its recommendations may be implemented from January 2006. Pleading the cause of Central and State Government employees, the Shastri stressed upon the Central Government to provide adequate one time financial assistance to the States and Union Territories for meeting additional expenditures for implementing 6th Pay Commission recommendations simultaneously. |
Young Hindi poet Sunil Sharmas maiden book impresses stalwarts Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Till the society wakes up to device systemic and institutional support, its creative and gifted individual members: the writers, poets, artists and theatrists have to by an large self-support the showcasing of their creative expressions. Sunil Sharmas maiden book of Hindi poems titled Prem Pawan Ki Pehli Thapki, released, here today, to good reviews, was such an effort where the poet, like many of his elk, had taken initiative to publish his creative expression to showcase it to the public. Appreciated and praised by stalwarts poets and critics like Dr O.P. Gupta and Ramesh Mehta, for its romantic as well humanistic content and also the quality of formal treatment, the poetic collection of young poet, is considered as a worthy addition in the Jammus contemporary Hindi literature. Organised by Yuva Hindi Lekhak Sangh (JUHLE), the literary function began with Satish Vimal, a young Hindi poet from Kashmir, reading a paper on Sunil Sharmas book. Satish Vimal, highlighting the salient features of Sunil Sharmas poems said that in this age when writers and poets under the influence of political domination are producing sloganistic literature, the young poet instead has advocated a kind of humanism which is inclusive in nature and transcends beyond parochial boundaries to universal concern. Sunil Sharmas poem Prem Doot was mentioned by Dr O.P. Gupta, former, HoD, Dept of Hindi, Jammu University, and the chief guest of the function, to draw attention towards young poets yearning for a boundary less and conflict less world. Prem Doot-one of the poems from the collection, reads as under: Surya jab jal kar rakh ho jai ga, chaand bhujh jai ga jab, dhara jab doob jai gi andhakar mein, tum, mujhe phir janam dena is dharti par ek naye suraj ke sath, ek bedag chand chakkar katata jahan, sirf ek Ishwar ho, ek dharm manvata katum mujhe phir janam dena, is dharti par prem doot bana kar. Secretary, Cultural Academy, Ramesh Mehta, who is a well known Hindi critic and writer, while appreciating the effort of the young poet also suggested to the poet to be more self-critical so as not to become complacent. The other members of the presidium included Dr Jatinder Udhampuri, former Director, AIR, Jammu and Sheikh Mohammad Kalyan, president, JUHLE. Centre should ask Pak to stop terrorism: Gupta Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has impressed upon the Centre that top priority should be given in asking Pakistan to stop cross border terrorism as innocent people were being killed every day inflicting senseless losses to humanity. Prof Gupta while referring to the secretary level talks ongoing with the Pakistan said that emphasis should be laid on cross border terrorism issue. India is not projecting this issue properly right now and the ongoing peace process would not have desired results till this issue is raised properly. He said despite public assurance by Pakistan president, Gen Musharraf that no cross border terrorism activity would be allowed from areas under the control of Pakistan, the menance was still continuing and during this year alone, about 2000 persons were killed and hundreds of others injured. The BJP leader pointed out that on one hand, the killings by the terrorists are continuing, on the other deinduction of the troops from Jammu and Kashmir is being linked with the peace process with Pakistan. The Government of India is shirking from its basic responsibility to provide security to the people. He alleged that sovereignity of the country in this part of the region is being eroded on the name of peace process. The infrastructure of militancy in Pakistan and POK is still intact and the terrorists are indulging in killings and other acts of violence. There should be an end to terrorism before initiating any other process, he maintained. |
Free Akhand Yoga Shivir held at Brahman Sabha Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Akhand Yoga Kendra, Jammu organised a Free Akhand Yoga Shivir at Brahman Sabha Parade Ground here today in which a large number of people participated. The basic aim of the camp ( Shivir) was to initiate the participants for their involvement in Shakti Kriya. Dr Sunil Visishth, while speaking on the occasion explained about Shakti Kriya and Prana-Shakti (life force) present in all the living beings. He said our level of this Prana Shakti determines this great deal of the quantity as well as quality of our physical, mental and spiritual health. He maintained that a large number of physical and mental health problems facing human being today are the result of the unawareness of the people of their Prana Shakti and the techniques to use the same for their benefit. Dr Vasishth, who is the founder of Akhand Yoga elaborated that though Prana Shakti is present in all living beings, all species other than humans are unaware of its presence. He said even most of the human beings too remain largely unaware of this fundamental force and thus can not make full use of the infinite potentialities bestowed on them by the nature. This is the major cause behind this suffering. Earlier, Dr Manju Aggarwal conducted a special session for the Yoga Asans. J&K; nod to all proposals Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: What can be termed as a new year gift to J&K, University Grants Commission (UGC) has given its formal approval for establishment of University campuses in Jammu as well as in Kashmir and creation of an Academic Staff College in Jammu besides 17 other ambitious proposals of the Education Ministry for further expansion and upgradation of higher education in the State. This was disclosed by Education Minister Harsh Dev Singh, while addressing a press conference, here today. "UGC gave its formal nod to all our proposals and also approved grant for the same during a meeting of the Commission on December 24," he informed adding that copy of the approval has also been received by his Ministry. Listing the proposals, sent by his Ministry and approved by the central body, Harsh Dev Singh elaborated that for establishment of additional University campuses in Jammu as well as in Kashmir at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crores, the UGC has approved Rs 20 crores to start with these projects. Two University campuses will be established in each division. "Besides Rs 20 lacs to each college for provision of computers and special development grant for building infrastructure in existing colleges in backward areas, special dispensation has been announced for the 14 new colleges, which are being opened from next academic session, as a part of development and reconstruction plan so as to make them eligible for available UGC assistance under various schemes even while the development of infrastructure is under way, " he said. Most privileged existing institutions are GGM Science College Jammu and SP College Srinagar which have been declared as Heritage Colleges of Excellence and sanctioned Rs one crore each. "Now both the colleges have become eligible for special assistance under UGC scheme Colleges with potential for excellence," explained the Minister who was flanked by MoS Education Dr Ghulam Nabi Lone, Director Colleges, Dr N D Wani, Principal of GGM Science College Prof C S Khajuria and Principal of GCW Parade Prof Vijay Luxmi. Additional financial assistance to all degree colleges offering PG courses, setting up of a UGC womens hostel in Jammu and Srinigar cities, installation of V-Sat in all colleges, computerisation of libraries of all colleges, setting up of a Women Studies Centre in Kashmir and pilot project for designating some of the colleges as lead colleges are among the proposals for which UGC has given its formal nod and approved the grant. UGCs bonanza is not limited to expansion and further development of colleges in the State only but has also included the faculty in higher education institutions. Approval for establishment of Academic Staff college in Jammu and sanction of funds by the central agency for the purpose is most delighting news for the Lecturers who were demanding the same for long. In addition, the Minister added, college lecturers from J&K have been provided reservation for orientation and refresher courses in all Academic Staff Colleges of UGC in other parts of the country. Besides, UGC has also given its approval for assistance in training of teachers and research scholars of Government colleges in various inter university centres of UGC, special grants to faculty members of the PG colleges for pursuing minor research works and organisation of management programmes for college Principals, said Harsh Dev Singh. The Minister claimed that implementation work for all the approved projects would start within a month as preliminary work in this connection has already been initiated. |

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Ten persons were injured in separate road accidents while as four persons allegedly consumed poisonous substances. Police spokesman said that nine persons were injured after a Tata Sumo bearing number PB11R-2980 collided with a motor cycle number JK02V-3937 at Basantar Bridge. After the collision the Tata Sumo fell down from the bridge causing injuries to nine passengers. All were rushed to Sub-District Hospital and their condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in. In another accident, one Varinder Singh, son of Maheshwar Singh of Raipur received severe injuries after his tractor rolled down at Rehari. He has been hospitalised and his condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in. Meanwhile, four personsDeepak Gupta, son of Romesh Gupta of Reasi, Naveen Koul, son of Roop Krishen of Durga Nagar, Roochi Sharma, daughter of Krishen Chand of Bus Stand and Asha Rani, wife of Balwan Singh of Barnai allegedly consumed poisonous substances at their respective residences. All were rushed to hospital when spotted unconscious by family members. Doctors attending on them immediately provided them stomach wash treatment followed by other medicare. Their condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in. It could not be ascertained as to whether they intentionally consumed poison or swallowed the same mistakenly. |
Devotees pay obeisance at Smadhi of Dwarika Nath Shastri Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Birthday of Swami Dwarika Nath Shastriji was celebrated at holy Smadhi of Swamiji at Sohanjana Jammu near Satwari. Devotees from Jammu, Punjab and other places participated in function. On this occasion, the holy Smadhi was highly decorated with flowers, bunting and lights. Swami Dwarika Nath Shastri took Samadhi on April 27, 1992 in the morning and it is a live Smadhi being revered by many people in and outside the State. On the occasion of the birthday of Swamiji, an impressive Jhanki was taken out, which started from the Smadhi at around 9 am and passed through 48 villages of Nikki Tawi area before culminating at holy Samadhi. The Jhanki was comprising pictures of Swamiji, playing of religious Punjabi Gathka, religious horses and Sankirtan Mandlies from many villages. Large number of devotees from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu division paid their obeisance at the holy Smadhi of Shastriji. In the morning, Divya Paduka Pujan was performed by Sant Ganga Dharji Maharaj, son of Shastriji amidst chanting of Shri Ram Nam and religious Bhajan. Before beginning of the Divya Janki, a Havan was also performed at the Samadhi of Shastriji, which was participated by the large gathering. The Divya Jhanki was about 3 kilometers in length comprising large number of people who were chanting Sri Ram Naam and other religious Bhajans. |

Birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan celebrated Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: The 115th birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan was celebrated with enthusiasm in Posh locality of Gandhi Nagar here today. 45 pc plan expenditure registered in Budgam Excelsior Correspondent Sringar, Dec 26:Against the approved annual plan of Rs. 62 crores expenditure to the tune of Rs.28 crores has been booked on various developmental works in district Budgam by November of the current financial year. With the revenue expenditure closing at Rs.23 crores and the capital expenditure standing at Rs. 5 crores the plan out lay has registered a 45 percent achievement. This was stated at the review meeting of the District Development Board chaired by the chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here today. Besides, the Chairman of the District Development board, Budgam, Gh. Mohi-u-din sofi, Minister for forests and Environment, the meeting was attended by Minister for Finance, Muzaffar Hussain Beg, Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Minister for Agriculture, Abdul Aziz Zargar, Minister for revenue and Rehabilitation Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf, Mohd. Sarfaraz Khan, Minister of State for Power, Javeed Mustafa Mir, Minister of State for Planning, Osman Majid, MLA Budgam Aga Syed Rohullah, MLC, G.N. Lone, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, Iqbal Khanday Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, District Development Commissioner Budgam, Kh. Bashir Ahmad and various Heads of Departments. Regarding the physical achievements the meeting was informed that 45.3 kms of roads have been black topped and 3 number of bridges and culverts have been completed. Similarly under the Education sector 60 number of new primary schools has been established in the district during the current year and about 4000 thousand students are being provided financial assistance under the pre-matric scholarship scheme and 80000 students were provided with free supply of text books from 1st to 8th standards. Besides, under the PHE sector during the current year five water supply schemes are nearing completion and 9945 hectares of land has been brought under improved irrigation during the period under review. The meeting was told that under SGRY (Normal) about 393 units and SGRY (Additional) 531 units have been completed under the agriculture and allied sector besides under IAY/RHS 55 individual and 13 cluster houses have been completed during the period under review. Under the Health Sector out of the plan out lay of Rs 759.67lakhs 45 percent achievement has been registered and 340 sterilizations, 11649 immunizations and 18166 cases were examined at various hospitals and health centers of the district during the period. The meeting during the review of the social welfare schemes was informed that besides assistance under Integrated Social Welfare scheme to under privileged people like the physically challenged, destitute, old aged and widows, assistance is also being provided to 25 inmates each at Bal Ashram, Narinikaten and SW centre Beerwa. Under the self employment programme it was given out the 580 cases were sponsored and an amount of Rs.283.97 lakh have been sanctioned with Rs.17 lakh provided as margin money and Rs. 11.73 lakhs as interest subsidy during the period under review. While taking up the primary sector for review it was given out that 98000,37000,16000and 7000 tones of paddy, vegetables, maize and pulse production was recorded in the district by November end of this year and 74,39,and 4 quintals of Urea, DAP and MOP were distributed among the farmers of the district during the period under review. Similarly under Animal Husbandry sector 2 lakh animals were treated for various diseases besides 1.36 lakh vaccinations were conducted. Currently the milk production in the District stands at 90000 metric tones with 51.50 MN of egg production recorded during the year, the meeting was informed. Responding to the demand of providing funds for the completion of works on Chadoora and Bemina bridges, the Chief Minister assured that the matter would be dealt on priority. Regarding the improvement to be undertaken on Nowgam-Khanda, Nowgam-Pohru roads the Chief minister asked the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to provide a report in shortest possible time. |
Religious function held at Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singh Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: To mark the 300 years of the Martyr Day of Sahibzadas of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji, a religious function was held today at Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singhji at Gandhi Nagar. The function was organised by District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu in which large number of devotees participated. Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singh was specially decorated on this occasion and a special Dewan was held to mark this occasion. Sikh Sangat, braving severe cold, participated in the function in large number. Since morning Sangat was seen thronging the Gurdwara to participate in the function. Devotees from all over Jammu city and adjoining areas attended the function. Speaking on the occasion, various speakers highlighted supreme sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singhji and his family. They reminded that Guru Gobind Singhji never hesitate to sacrifice his family members during battle against repression and discrimination. Calling upon Sangat to follow teachings of the family of Guru Gobind Singhji, the preachers said that the family has set an example for the entire world. They further said that sacrificed of Guru Gobind Singhji teaches us not to bow before the offenders and ready for any sacrifice for the sake of the nation and humanity. Speakers, while paying tributes to the family of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji, said that human values were protected at that time by the sacrifices of the family members of Guru Gobind Singhji. They further reminded the Sangat about martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadurji, who laid down his life while opposing oppression and suppression of the then rulers of the country. Speakers further stressed upon the Sangat to educate younger generation about sacrifices of Sikh Gurus and asked them to follow teachings of Gurus. Ragi Jathas from different parts of the region as well as out side the State participated in the function. They presented Shabad Kirtan during the Gurmat Samagam. |

in Sunday Theatre programme Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Hungarian play in English "Refund" was presented at Natrang Studio Theatre in the regular Natrang Sunday Theatre today. Written by Fritz Karinthy, the play was directed by Sumeet Sharma. Speaking about the presentation Director Natrang Balwant Thakur informed the invited audience that variety of plays written in different languages in the world would be featured in Sunday Theatre programme of Natrang. He said young actors and directors will be given the opportunity to explore various artistic possibilities in theatre. The story of the play revolved around a school boy who is unable to find a job because of his bad education in a school and decided to take refund of tuition fee from the school authorities. Here starts the conflict an school authorities decide to test the boy again and agree to pay back the tuition fee, if he fails. On the contrary boy humiliates the teachers by answering all the questions wrong in all subjects. Play takes a dramatic turn when Math teacher puts deciding question asking the boy to tell as to how much amount he expected from the authorities and the boys gives full and final detail of fee paid by him. The boy falls in the trap of Math teacher and is refused the recovery of money but gets pass certificate again with distinction. Sumeet Sharma as a student, Tanmeet Singh as Principal, Vikram Puri in the role of Maths teacher, Sandeep Sahni as History teacher, Surekha Sharma as teacher of Physics and Kanhaiya Sharma as peon acted with confidence and were appreciated by the audience. JMC interfering in Sainik Coop Society affairs: Charak Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Sainik Co-operative House Building Society Ltd has alleged that Jammu Municipal Corporation was interfering in the affairs of the Society. Addressing a press conference here today, chairman of the Society, Amar Singh Charak alongwith other ten elected Board members alleged that Jammu Municipal Corporation authorities have started interfering in the affairs of the Society which was formed in 1969 and is considered as one of the largest colony having about 5000 residential plots and about 2100 shop sites with a population of about 20,000 souls. It is expected to touch nearly 50,000 population figure within next five years span. While the members including Col Chib (Retd) welcomed the efforts of DyCM Mangat Ram Sharma and Raman Bhalla (MOS) for the inclusion of Sainik Colony in the Municipality but at the other hand they alleged that even the maps and site plans already approved by the Society about decades back are being challenged and its officials are harassing the owners of these plots. Even exhorbitant development charges are being demanded from the people. Responding to a question, another Board member admitted that out of the 48 park sites identified, some area has been reduced by carving out some plots. It was unanimously done after conducted meeting of the elected body. He also admitted that not even a single park could be developed in last more than thirty years and unfortunately some land where cremation ground was proposed to be built, was abandoned due to litigation. The Society intended to develop a cremation ground in the area as people had to go to Shastri Nagar or Channi which is far off. Opposing digital/ electronic meters being installed by PDD, the Society members said that people have already installed metres and there was no need to replace them again. It was stressed upon the need to construct another bridge on the nullah separating sectors as it creates havoc during rains. PK to dedicate Homeland day to unemployed youth Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Panun Kashmir held a meeting here, today in which it was decided that 14th Homeland Day falling on December 28 will be dedicated to unemployed youth and national integration. The meeting reiterated that carving out of a separate homeland was the only viable solution to the problems of the exiled Pandits. It, while rejecting any return move of the Central and state governments resolved to accelerate its struggle for the homeland. The meeting also took the stock of the various problems being faced by the displaced KPs and expressed grave concern over the growing unemployment problem being faced by the community youth. Laxmipuram residents highlight demands Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 26: Youth Welfare Committee, Laxmipuram, Chinore, held a meeting under the presidentship of V K Gandotra highlighted their problems which mainly pertained to water and power shortage and construction of roads. The committee general secretary Neeraj Singh said the road in the locality was left incomplete about four years back and all the efforts of inhabitants have remained fruitless. The meeting warned to come on the roads if authorities concerned failed to concede their genuine demands.
