Power
scenario in J&K
Sir,
This has
reference to the news item "Centre
ready to lend more power to J&K"
published in the Daily Excelsior.
The
efforts made by the Power Minister
Mohammad Sharief Niaz to augment
electricity in the State are laudable. At
present the state is facing acute
electricity shortage. Though the rising
population in the state is one of its
causes, its misuse by the people is cause
to worry about. The Government
departments are also responsible for its
misuse. They have been using electricity
recklessly without paying any penny in
return.
The people
too are responsible for creating this
situation. They keep on lighting more
than necessary bulbs, heaters, TVs and
other gadgets are kept on for most of
time, if they are not used at that time.
As a result, we often see power break
downs and low voltage.
This has
hampered that business and other
commercial activities in the State.
Moreover, it is also affecting the
studies of students who are preparing for
examinations. Moreover, people are
becoming more and more dependent on
internet for correspondence and
communication. If power remain off for 10
hrs daily, one can very well imagine the
situation.
Therefore
the Government should seek public support
in improving power situation in the area.
Yours
etc...
