Stop illegal banking

Sir,

It has reference to the article "fraudulent companies" written by Mr. Brij Mohan Sharma published in Daily Excelsior on 4-12-2004.

I agree with the writers perception that people don't learn from past mistakes. It is not the case of uneducated backward people only who are trapped and cheated by the illegal and unauthorised finance companies but even the highly educated and middle class people become easy prey of the said companies. Three years back endowment ltd. finance company cheated its thousands of subscribers by locking their offices in J&K and disappearing. Hundreds of cheated subscribers lodged complaints in various police stations and highlighted their grievenes through press and electronic media but all in vain.

The mushroom growth of fraudulent companies have a well knit illegal banking network through out the country. Gujrat and Utter Pardesh are the leading states in this regard. It is the height of the negligence on the part of the authorities concerned. One wonders about the authority and efficiency of the Central Finance department and the Reserve Bank of India to deal with this kind of challenge.

Paying power tariff

Sir,

The letter written by Mr. Vijay Gupta from Samba in Daily Excelsior dt 09 Dec 04 has adequately brought out the reason as to why the consumer of electricity are reluctant to pay their regular electricity bills. If the PDD Department streamlines the procedure and adopts a system like BSNL where the tele calls made by a subscriber are registered at a central place and bills issued and sent by post to the consumers. I think by installing electric meter at every house this system may be possible centrally by PD Deptt leaving aside the culprits who tap the electric transmission lines directly. For this the lineman/meter readers/ JE incharge has to ensure that no such unauthorised tapping is done, if detected the individual involved is handed over to the police. PDD Deptt has to work on this seriously and adopt a foolproof procedure if they really want to earn the revenue due from consumers.

Voice of women

Sir,

The column 'Adieu or Aurevoir' by Dr. Aruna Gupta in the Sunday Magazine of Daily Excelsior is praise worthy. The author should continue writing such articles to raise the voice of women.

Though we have progressed in many fields of life, we have failed in giving equal status to women. Discrimination with women prevails everywhere-be it home or office.

Moreover, Indian Film Industry is also responsible for downgrading the status of women. A women today is looked only as a sex symbol. If we can check this tendency to some extent, it would be certainly a service to womankind.

Performance of Indian hockey team

Sir,

The dismal performance by the Indian hockey team in the recently held Champions trophy at Pakistan is quite disappointing. Despite being a national game, India has not made any remarkable achievement in this game.

Though we have won many Olympic events, we continue to perform badly day by day, unless we perform consistently, in the game, Indian hockey team may have a dark future.

The Indian Hockey Federation should take every step to promote this game in India. It should seek cooperative from the corporate world to sponsor more and more matches throughout the country. Like Cricket, it is should be started in the early age of children. Only then it would continue to exist in India.
