JAMMU, Dec 12: To inculcate safe driving habits and to improve the navigational skills of Jammu citizens, Maurti Udyog Limited (MUL) in association with Traffic Police organised a WagonR Safe Hunt Rally in Jammu city today.

Organised as a part of nation-wide drive of the MUL, the rally was flagged off by Minister of State for Transport Raman Bhalla in presence of Regional Manager of Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) H S Brar and SSP Traffic Jammu S D Singh Jamwal from Ashoka Hotel in the morning.

This was for the first time that such an activity has been charted out in the City of Temples. About 100 customers of MUL participated in the event and reached back at Ashoka Hotel after passing through different parts of the Jammu City and its suburbs.

Before flagging off the rally, Regional Manager of MUL H S Brar told the participants not to exceed the maximum speed limit of 40 kilometres per hour and to wear safety belts while driving.

Speaking on the occasion, MoS Transport Raman Bhalla appreciated the role of MUL in organising such an event which he said would go long way in inculcating safe driving habits and improve the navigational skills of Jammu citizens.

Mr Brar, while speaking on the occasion, said that the nation-wide WagonR safe hunt rally was being organised to inculcate safe driving habits among the people and promote the brands of the Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) which are popular. He claimed that WagonR continued to be the largest selling vehicle in the A2 segment in Jammu and Kashmir.

The event culminated with the distribution of prizes among winners by Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma. The first prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy was given to Abhishekh Pallalia, second prize of Rs 5000 to B L Handoo and third prize of Rs 3000 to Shakuntala Verma. Sanjeeta Jain, Koushal Sharma, Sanjay, Paramjeet Singh and Indira Moza were given trophies.

In the senior citizen male category, Mohinder Singh was given prize while in the female category Harmeet Kour was given trophy by the Deputy Chief Minister.

Speaking on the occasion, the DyCM appreciated the step initiated by the MUL and said that such events help in inculcating safe driving habits and improve navigational skills in a different way. "The dealers of Maruti-Suzuki have been providing best quality of service to the people and today the company has proved that it don’t want to lag behind in teaching people about the traffic rules", he said.

Inter-state gang involved in smuggling of bovines busted

JAMMU, Dec 12: Police today busted an inter-state gang involved in the smuggling of bovine animals and arrested three notorious smugglers. A hunt has also been launched to nab the smugglers based in adjoining states of Himachal, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

Police spokesman said that Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Samba Abrar Choudhary had been developing information for the last one week regarding the movement of the bovine smugglers and on the basis of a specific information he alongwith SHO Vijaypur Sunil Sharma conducted a raid in Swankha area last night and intercepted one notorious bovine smuggler.

During interrogation, the arrested smuggler disclosed the whereabouts of his two more associates, who were also subsequently picked up by the SDPO Samba. They have been identified Mohd Hanif, son of Mohd Yousaf of Udhampur, Bagh Ali, son of Mussa of Pathankot and Lal, son of Kasim Din of Gurdaspur.

Trio, during joint questioning, disclosed the names of top bovine animal smugglers of J&K as well of adjoining states. They are Bagh Singh of Bandral, Chaddu, son of Majid of Bhaderwah, Mussa, son of Shatu, Manu of Sidhra, Haji Feroza of Dinanagar Punjab, Surat Singh of Dalhousie and Remo Ali of R S Pura.

One of the arrested smugglers—Mohd Hanif was very popular in the Kashmir Valley for his ‘skills’ in successfully smuggling the bovines. He was mostly using the higher reaches of Udhampur, Doda and Pir Panchal range of mountains to smuggle the animals to Kashmir Valley.

With the arrest of these top smugglers of bovine animals, police has virtually neutralised the inter-state racket involved in this trade. To arrest all the smugglers, SDPO Samba has constituted a special team and launched man hunt to nab them.

A case has been registered at Vijaypur in this connection.

‘We must benefit from exchange programme at national and international level so that our youth plays a useful role in 21st century as global citizens and citizens of the great country’, he said.

The Governor extolled the talent of youth and said they have a potential to become pride of the State and the country. ‘Parents and teachers have to contribute in this regard immensely’, he said.

Gen Sinha was speaking as a Chief Guest at the 7th Annual Day function of K C Public School near here this morning. The Deputy Chief Minister, Mangat Ram Sharma was also present.

The Governor complimented the school management for pursuing vigorously higher standard of education.

He said he was impressed by the discipline demonstrated by students during the parade and performance in sports and cultural activities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister appreciated the decision of the school management in providing free education to the wards of martyred police personnel and adopting of Nariana village. He said this will help economically weaker students to achieve excellence in academics and other activities.

The Deputy Chief Minister praised the performance of children who participated in various extracurricular activities.

New Delhi, Dec12 : Reliance Industries Ltd. has come forward to boost Kashmir fruit Industry. The company plans to introduce cello guard polymer cartons for innovative packaging of Kashmiri apple with a twin objective to increase shelf life of the standardized graded fruits for better returns to the growers and to check deforestation due to use of wooden boxes.

The slide presentation of the newly developed plastic cartons manufactured in Italy through bubble guard technology was shown to the Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Agriculture Ab. Aziz Zargar at Jammu and Kashmir House, New Delhi last evening by the General Manager of Reliance Industries Ltd, Sagar Verma. The Minister was told that plastic cartons are light weight, water resistant, durable with good aesthetic ambiance for consumer attraction and have also high salvage value. The product has already been introduced in Himachal Pradesh which produces about 5.5 lakh metric tones of fresh fruit as compared to 20 lakh mts.

In Kashmir, said Mr. Verma while giving the presentation of the carton. He said use of plastic cartons would help to check post harvest losses to apple Industry in Jammu and Kashmir which has been estimated to the extent of 30% of the total production. Apple Industry in Jammu and Kashmir state is a major business activity with a revenue record of Rs. 1200 crore annually.

The introduction of plastic cartons specially designed for Kashmiri fruit packaging with local graphics and labeling would enable fruit growers to fetch better remuneration in the competitive world market, said Mr. Verma adding that it would also minimize use of wooden boxes which is one of the factors for deforestration in Jammu and Kashmir badly effecting climatic conditions. Strongly pleading to do away with use of wood for furniture, construction and packaging, Mr. Verma said about 3000 trees are lost every year due to use of wooden boxes for packaging of fruit.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister called for familiarizing new post harvest packaging technologies to capture due share in the world market. He urged the need to make the packaging material cost effective and affordable to the fruit growers. He said vigorous awareness campaign should be initiated to convince fruit growers to adopt modern packaging concepts and grade standardization of fruit.

JAMMU, Dec 12: To commemorate 50 years of literary writings of K K Shakir, a noted writer and poet of the State, Nami Dogri Sanstha organised a felicitation function, here today.

M K Raina Ratnakar, Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu, who was the chief guest on the occasion, felicitated Mr Shakir by presenting a Shawl, citation and a trophy on behalf of Nami Dogri Sanstha.

Earlier, Ameen Banjara, Hardyal Singh Rehbar and Dr Gian Singh read papers on life and literary works of K K Shakir. They highlighted various facets of his personality and carried out critical appreciation and evaluation of his works.

A brief musical programme, based on the poems of Mr Shakir, was also presented on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Puri expressed grave concern over declining ratio of female population mainly because of female festicide. He warned the society against declining ration of female.

Dr Wani, Director Colleges appreciated the College authority for organising the seminar efficaciously. He also announced the introduction of a course ‘Human Rights’ in the College very soon. JAMMU, Dec 12: Performance of the play ‘Damad’ marked third consecutive show of the Natrang’s new initiative ‘Sunday Theatre’. The play written by Balwant Gargi and directed by Anil Tickoo, was staged here today at Natrang Theatre.

The story of the play revolves around a ‘Baagi’-freedom fighter who knocks at the door of a family when are waiting for the arrival of their son-in-law. The pleas of the old woman not to give shelter are hypnotically transformed by the ‘freedom fighter’ who reminds her that her husband had also sacrificed his life for the sake of freedom. The lady is so moved by the arguments that she not only gives shelter to the Baagi but also makes him sit near her daughter to pose him as her husband only to avoid police from arresting him. The police come and thinks that Baagi is real son-in-law of the lady. Though the cops go away but they keep a watch on the house. However, the ‘Baagi’ escapes after the policemen leave. Meanwhile the real son-in-law also happens to come there and the story takes a new turn on re-entry of the police. Cops think that the second person is ‘Baagi’. The pleas of the old lady that the second one is her real ‘Damad’, fall on dead ears. The pathetic feelings of the lady who has not only lost her husband but also sacrificed her ‘Damad’ for the cause of freedom, are aesthetically portrayed in the play.

The senior actors gave engrossing performance particularly Neeraj Kant as freedom fighter Himmat Singh, Kamaljeet Kour as Nihal Kour, Sanjeev Gupta as Sarban Singh, Pankaj Sharma as Thanedar, Shivali Abrol as Bachno and Venus Sethi as Sipahi.

Director of the play Anil Tickoo designed the light while Pawan Verma scored the music, Suresh Kumar, Rahul Chanda, Deepak Virdhi and Kanhaiya Sharma coordinated Hall management and off-stage.

IGP Jammu for joint operational teams to combat terrorism

DODA, Dec 12: A meeting of high ranking officers of Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) was held at Batote today.

Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Dr S P Vaid presided over the meeting which was attended by IGP CRPF P M Nair, IGP BSF B D Sharma, DIG Udhampur-Doda Range Satvir Gupta, Brigadier M S Rohil, DIG CRPF (Operations), Rajinder Mani, DIG BSF Ramban, SSPs of Doda, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban and Commanding Officers of CRPF and BSF deployed in Udhampur-Doda Range. The main impetus of the meeting was on operational matters.

IGP Jammu Zone, in his address, said that things have changed and situation has improved a lot and underlined the need to form a joint operational teams of BSF, CRPF and Police for combating the terrorism and flushing out anti-national elements.

"Intelligence network should be strengthened and actionable intelligence be gathered and shared with each other for launching result oriented operations", the IGP Jammu said and added that joint efforts should be made for neutralising the activities of the terrorists.

Dr Vaid stressed that the Commanding Officers of all the forces should convene a meeting once in a month to discuss the operational matters and to make joint strategy for flushing out anti-national elements in their area of responsibility by identifying their hide-outs. Special care be taken to avoid fidayeen attacks, he furthe said.

The IGP advised the security forces to ensure that innocent peope are not harassed during the operations and assured that State Police would provide all assistance to the forces if required for the operational purposes. Necessary instructions with regard to the surprise and sudden checking of vehicles at different naka points on National Highway besides interior routes be carried out.

He directed the officers of police and para-military forces to trace out the photographs of top commander of militant ranks and display them at different places mentioning suitable reward for the sources who will provide information about them.

IGs of CRPF and BSF also addressed the meeting and assured full cooperation in fighting insurgency.

Earlier, DIG of Udhampur-Doda Range Satvir Gupta gave resume of the achievements made by the police, CRPF and BSF in the range during the current year.

Addressing at a presentation programme organized by Grasim Industries Limited Cement Division New Delhi on durable concrete for Hydro Electric Projects and Buildings here this morning, the minister urged upon engineers and other skilled manpower to adopt the method devised in accordance to technical revolution and development for laying durable concrete base.

Appreciating the role of engineers, architect of the various engineering disciplines, said that repairing strategy need to be avoided under the present circumstances where advance technique has brought technical revolution adding that repairing of old concrete is neither easy task nor lasting one. He emphasized upon the engineers and the officers of various executive agencies not to compromise on quality of concrete works like bridges, buildings, reservoirs, tanks and other civil works.

Appreciating for holding seminars of presentation that too on vital subject, Mr. Niaz hoped that the engineers and enterprises operating in private and public sector could coordinate with the engineering sector of government departments to share technical expertise for yielding result-oriented works at the grass root level.

Earlier, in his address, Minister of State for Planning and Development, Mr. Usman Majid said that topography of Jammu and Kashmir state including Ladakh region having different climate and temperature varying at different places and time, envisages eco- friendly construction of different projects which involve concrete specifications. He also suggested measures for giving new dimension to the development process so that the state and country enter to an era and development which he said would usher eco-friendly economical development.

Several engineers and architects including Chief Engineers of Electric, Mechanical, Stores procurement, Director Finance, JKTDC, Chief Engineer, R&B besides other officers also participated in the question answer session regarding the quality and processing system of the mixing of cement to achieve the concrete results in construction work.

465 receive appointment letters in Doda

DODA, Dec 12: Appointment orders to 465 candidates under Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme of six Assembly constituencies of Doda district including 74 of Kishtwar, 58 of Bhadarwah, 88 of Ramban, 53 of Banihal, 89 of Inderwal and 103 of Doda were distributed here yesterday at a function held under the chairmanship of Power Minister, Mr. Mohd. Sharief Niaz.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani and Chairman, Social Welfare Advisory Board, Mr. G. M. Saroori were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Niaz said that the Coalition Government is committed to mitigate unemployment problem in the State. In this context, he said that so far 3000 educated youth have been appointed in the district as Rehbar-I-Taleem teachers purely on merit basis.

Mr. Niaz said that to deal the prevailing unemployment problem, several schemes have been approved and some are under active consideration of the Government. He said that Rs. 45 crore are being spent under RSVY during the next three years on power, tourism, horticulture, agriculture, education and road sectors. Of this, an amount of Rs. 5 crore would be incurred upto the close of current financial year.

The Minister said to make the best use of rivulets passing through this mountainous district, work on several micro hydel power projects would be started soon which includes 50 MW power project at Donadi in Gandoh block.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani said that his Government has come true to its commitment by way of getting the ban lifted on recruitments. He said that the Government is fully aware of the un-rest among the unemployed educated youth, as such to over come the problem they are being absorbed as Rehbar-i-Taleem teachers and in other development schemes. He impressed upon these newly appointed youth to share responsibilities in developing a literate generation, which could help the nation to emerge on the map of developed nations.

Mr. G. M. Saroori reiterating the coalition Government’s commitment of providing educational facilities to its masses particularly those living in most remote and far flung areas, at their door steps said that Government is endeavoring to open new schools for each village.

Plus 2 lecturers meet School Board Chairman

JAMMU, Dec 12: A State level delegation of All J&K Plus 2 Lecturers Forum led by its president H D Qureshi met the Chairman, State Board of School Education and discussed at length the problems confronting the cadre.

The problems discussed by the Forum pertained to implementation of Government order adjusting School Education Officers in the Board of School Education, implementation of Board Act 1975 in its true spirit, filling up of all vacant posts of academic officers in the Board with the deployment of Subject Experts, all round assignments on the basis of seniority and rotation and no officer below the rank of Assistant Secretary of the Board be allowed to enter in the examination hall.

They also demanded enhancement in the evaluation/ conduct rates and review of existing curricula and books with the involvement of officers of the School Education.

The Board Chairman assured the delegation to implement the Government Order adjusting the school education officers in its true spirit with in a couples of days and that all officers would assume their duties on their new assignments.

Others in the delegation were Nirmal Choudhary, Yash Pal Sharma, Gurcharan Singh, Abdul Majid Bhatt, M A Kuchay, Manzoor Ahmed Shah and Dr Mohd Yousuf Tantrey.

PSA holds general meet

JAMMU, Dec 12: A general meeting of J&K Private School Association held under the presidentship of Youv Raj Singh today.

The president apprised the members about the urgent problems like grant-in-aid, pending cases of recognition, implementation of order of Minister for Permanent Recognition and other issues. The members also putforth their problems and gave suggestions.

The meeting held that all the recognized schools should be granted grant-in-aid according to their status for which proper rules should be framed and that pending cases of recognition of schools should be settled at an earliest so that they may not suffer.

The meeting held that English book introduced for 8th standard was beyond the standard of 8th Class and should be reviewed again to bring the same to its standard.

Association members decided to hold election of the body in the near future.

Others who spoke on the occasion included R L Verma, Mrs Santosh Sharma, P C Suri, Paramjit Singh, Parhlad Singh, Sunil Choudhary and others.

The meeting held that the announcement made by the education Minister Harsh Dev Singh for permanent recognition may also be implemented in letter and spirit.

Dr Jitender Bajaj of Centre for Policy Studies, New Delhi was the main speaker on the occasion.

In his address Dr Bajaj, while cautioning about the impending dangerous recalled that in India the Hindu population is decreasing for last 130 years. He said in coming 50 years it will further decrease by 50 percent.

He said in comparison to it, the population of Muslims and Christians is increasing in Bihar, Assam and Bengal. He said the large number of Madrassas have been established along the Nepal border in Utter Pradesh and and from Purvanchal to Arunachal Pradesh the number of Indians is decreasing as under a big conspiracy Christianity is being spread in this entire region.

He warned that in case this trend was not stopped immediately , the population of Hindus will decrease by 50 percent in India.

Referring to J&K he expressed concern over what he alleged the grave bunglings and manipulations made in Valley census.

He alleged that the figures given in census in J&K from 1991 and 2001 census are far from reality.

The seminar was presided over by Dr K L Bhatia, Director Jammu Law School. He termed the census figures of 2001 totally baseless. He said while going through these figures it appears that the census report has been prepared by the officials without bothering to visit the houses of the people. He termed it a big gameplan.

Dr Bhatia who did not absolve the State Government also demanded that this report be cancelled and the erring officials be punished.

Presenting his paper Dr R L Bhat a renowned scholar gave the statistical data of census figures made in J&K since 1931.

He said these figures have been manipulated for time and again for reasons best known to those at the helm of affairs. He said at statics and analytical level , these census figures are totally ambiguous.

He said though Government was supposed to cross check the census if a section of the society expresses its reservations about the report but this has not been done.

Ridiculing the census figures of 2001, he said the report showed total population of Kashmiri Hindus in Valley 100,912 in which the ratio of male has been shown 90 percent while that of females at 10 percent.

Among the other speakers include Dr Jigar Mohammed and K L Gupta, president Trikuta Samvad Kendra.

Sanskrit Kendra inaugurated

JAMMU, Dec 12: A Sanskrit Kendra was inaugurated at Shiv Shakti Mandir, Pamposh Colony Janipur today. It was established by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sanstha, Jammu for teaching Sanskrit language to the aspirants.

The inaugural function was addressed by Dr Vishva Murti Shastri, Dr Yash Paul Khajuria and Dr Bharat Bhushan. They discussed the role of Sanskrit in day to day life and its importance. Addressing the function N J Bali, a social activist while comparing the Sanskrit language with other languages, impressed upon the participants to avail the opportunity in a right perspective.

Dogra culture showcased at Sanstha’s book fair

JAMMu, Dec 12: Coming just before completion of the one year of Dogri’s inclusion in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution, the enthusiastic public response to maiden Dogri Pustak Mela augurs well for future plans of Dogri Sanstha to promote and develop modern Dogri language.

Organised by Dogri Sanstha at its headquarters, Dogri Bhavan, Karan Nagar, the two-day Dogri Pustak Mela which concluded today, proved a great attraction for visitors because of the unique nature of the Mela. Other than showcasing the books in Dogri, the event also highlighted different aspects of Dogra culture.

The book section with special focus on the exhibition and sale of corpus of hitherto published books in Dogri in last 50 years, saw a brisk bussiness. The students and people were seen going in for rare issues and re-prints of popular poets, Dogra folk tales, songs and literature prescribed as syllabus for Dogri classes including primers.

The book section was a collaborative effort in which different organisations like J&K Cultural Academy, Post-Graduate Department of Dogri, Jammu University, Sahitya Akedemi, New Delhi, Dogri Sanstha and local publishers participated.

The other attraction of the Mela was the photo-exhibition of the architectural heritage of Jammu by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Jammu. The visitors were seen discussing in groups in front of photographs showing ancient monuments, excavations and artifacts, and asking for more information from the ASI staff present on the occasion. Infact, for many it was the first time to look at the monuments of Kirmachi, Babor or exquisite Akhnoor Terracotta Heads.

To show Dogri’s propagation through electronic media, there was also continuous screening of tele-films. Some films had focus on the cultural aspects of Duggar while others were based on short stories of folk heros like Baba Jitto and of well known Dogri writers.

The stalls of audio-cassettes and CD’s of Dogri music put up by different agencies also got good response from the visitors.

While thanking all the collaborating agencies and especailly P.B. S. Sengar and his team from ASI, Prof Lalit Magotra, president, Dogri Sanstha, said that enthused by the response of people to the event, Sanstha will hold such melas on regular basis to especailly attract the younger generations towards richness of native traditions, culture and mother tongue of the region.

Gujjar leaders call for unity among community members

JAMMU, Dec 12: Minister of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Taj Mohi-u-Din has assured that people belonging to the Gujjar and Bakerwal community will be given their due share in the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme.

Addressing a one day Gujjar and Bakerwal convention at Abhinav Theatre here, today, he said the community will get its equal share in all spheres of development. The convention was organised by Gujjar United Front (GUF).

He said the present Government at State and Centre is totally committed to the welfare and upliftment of the Gujjars and Bakerwals and passing of reservation Bill by the state Legislature is an indication in this regard.

He said the Central funds meant for the developmental schemes will be properly utilized and no discrimination will be made in its distribution with the community.

Others who addressed the convention include Congress leader and ex Speaker Ch. Mohammed Aslam, Javed Rana, MLA, Ch. Mohammed Hussian, MLC, Master Tasaduq Hussian, vice president PDP, Haji Sultan, Ch. Salam-u-Din, Dr Gafoor of BSP, Anwar Choudhary, president GUF and Ch. Shah Mohammed, secretary general, GUF.

All the speakers barring their political affiliations resolved to work for the community welfare and upliftment.

Stressing on the unity among the rank and file of the Gujjars and Bakerwals they said that the community has suffered a lot due to the discrimination faced by it in all spheres of life over the years.

The convention was chaired by Taj Mohi-u-Din and Javed Rana. Earlier the house adopted a condolence resolution to mourn the demise of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Mir Qasim who passed away in Union Capital today.

Through another condolence resolution the demise of father of Ch. Aslam and father of PCC chief and Rural Development Minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed was also condoled.

Later a charter of demands was presented to the Minister by the leaders of GUF. It demanded political reservations for the Gujjars and Bakerwals, construction of houses for the Scheduled Tribes in the state, proper use of central funds and complete halt on diversion of funds to other schemes meant for Gujjars welfare, setting up of sub office of National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Tribes in J&K, constitution of separate tribal ministers and Directorate of Tribal Welfare in J&K, inclusion of Gojri in 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution and starting of bulletin in Gojri language by AIR and DD, representation to the Gujjars and Bakerwals in decision making bodies.

It also demanded that the State Autonomy Committee report submitted by previous regime which deprives the Gujjars and Bakerwals of ST status be rejected, raising of Gujjar regiment in the army, establishment of Gujjar Cultural Centre, action against the officers responsible for issuance of fake ST certificates and J&K Advisory Board for Gujjars, Bakerwals be given a statutory status, issuance of identity cards to the Gujjars and Bakerwals and representation to the community in National Commission for Tribals.

Shiv Sena chalks out strategy for JMC elections

JAMMU, Dec 12 : State Working Committee of Shiv Sena in a meeting held here today chalked out a strategy for the forthcoming Jammu Municipal Corporation elections besides elections to other Local Bodies in the state.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rajesh Gupta state president and was largely attended by delegates from all the districts of the region. The participants expressed their willingness to contest elections as the same were being held after a lapse of long 24 years in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

Various Sena leaders including Sanjay Mahey, Avinash Bhatia, Naresh Sharma, Vipan Hindu, Shashi Abrol, Ranjit Singh Bali, Rajinder Gupta and others expressed their views. The state president asked representatives from all the districts to prepare wardwise list of probable contestants and gear up for coming elections.

It was decided that all the senior leaders from Jammu will be visiting Samba, Vijaypur, R S Pura, Bishnah, Akhnoor, Kathua for finalising strategy for these areas. The Sena leaders from all the province were given green signal to ahead with full might in the proposed polls.

Bhalla seeks public support for development

JAMMU, Dec 12: Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution and Transport, Raman Bhalla has asked the public to cooperate with agencies engaged for upliftment of their socio-economic conditions.

The Minister said this while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of various development projects at Gandhinagar, Shastrinagar, Nanaknagar, Chatha and Gadigarh here this morning.

Addressing the gatherings, the Minister said that projects like repair and widening of roads, construction of bridges, covering of open nallahas, removing of garbage, maintenance of parks and gardens are the priority of the state government besides opening and upgradation of schools so that the basic amenities provided to the people at the door steps.

Mr. Bhalla said that Blood Bank facility has been made available besides a sports stadium would be constructed in near future in Gandhinagar

The Minister said that people supported the secular forces in the elections held in the past and defeated the designs of those inimical of peace adding that the people of the state would maintain the secular traditions in future.

Later, Mr. Bhalla flagged off a car rally of Wagon R from Manda Hills which was organized by Maruti Suzuki.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the purpose of organizing this car rally is to create awareness among the transport operators and people in general about the safe driving and proper maintenance of speed on the roads.

Body of a man recovered, 18 injured in mishaps

JAMMU, Dec 12: Body of a man was recovered from Digiana area while as 18 persons were injured in road accidents. This apart, two persons allegedly consumed poisonous substances at their respective residences.

Police spokesman said that body of a male identified as Gurdeep Singh, son of Narayan Singh of Sanjay Nagar was recovered from Rani Talab Digiana. The body was spotted by some locals, who informed the police and got the body shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital.

Police has taken the cognizance of the incident.

Meanwhile, two persons—Atul, son of Puran Singh of Billawar Kathua and Romesh Kumar, son of Balak Ram of Gharota allegedly consumed poisonous substances at their respective residences.

They were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital where doctors provided them stomach wash treatment followed by other medicare. Their condition was stated to be out of danger when reports last came in.

It could not be ascertained as to whether they intentionally consumed poison or swallowed the same mistakenly.

Eighteen persons were injured in separate road accidents. Some of them have been identified as Veer Ji, son of Jiya Lal of Mishriwala, Gyan Chand, son of Sham Dass of Rajouri, Amzad Bibi, wife of Aziz, Abdul Aziz, son of Mohd Din of Mendhar.

Various KP factions discuss future strategy

JAMMU, Dec 12: Various organisations of Kashmiri Pandits in their separate meetings decided the future strategy to be adopted by the community in getting the long pending demands solved.

Youth Wing AIKS which met here under the chairmanship of its president R K Bhat has decided that a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and Joint Committee of KP youth organisations will be framed shortly.

It expressed concern over the delay in bifurcation of ration cards for relief benefits and increasing encroachment of KPs left over property in the Valley. It said that despite the assurance given by the Union Home Minister, Shiv Raj Patil to the delegation of the organisation recently that encroached property will be restored nothing has been done.

It also welcomed the decision of the chairman Improvement Trust Amritsar to reserve two percent residential flats for Kashmiri Pandits.

All Migrant Camps Coordination Committee, Unit Muthi First and Second held under the chairmanship of Veer Ji Belove has cautioned the community for what it called the misleading statements from various KP factions.

It said that the Committee will frame a charter of demands for the welfare and rehabilitation of the camp dwellers and put it before the Central team. In this regard a signature campaign to finalise the charter of demands will also be initiated soon.

Kashmiri Pandit Youth Joint Working Council in its meeting held under the leadership of Satish Razdan discussed various issues to be put forth before the Central team.

It cautioned the people against the vested elements in the community and urged all other organisations to wind up their shops.It made a dig at those who conducted the seminar recently on the migrants problems for misleading the community. It demanded that the actual representatives be given an audience by the Inter Ministerial team who are shortly visiting J&K to assess the problems of the community.

Another meeting was held at Muthi by the Displaced Hindu Welfare Committee under the chairmanship of S N Dhar. It dissolved the Welfare Committee to elect a executive body on democratic pattern in one day delegate conference to be held on December 19 at Muthi Phase First.

The conference will highlight the problems of the Community and take concrete steps for the its permanent rehabilitation. The conference will also frame the CMP and will elect general executive body on democratic pattern.
