J&K borders unalterable

Sir,

'Article 370 defines J&K borders as unalterable' by O P Modi is a well thought article and I as a resident of Pak occupied Baltistan believe that if India offers ample funds for the development of the PoK regions then more people will be attracted towards India. Bad days on Pakistan are dawning and we will be liberated from the clutches of Pakistan soon. But India has to play more active role to work on unification of Pak occupied Baltistan with Ladakh.

In next few years India will be inducted in the Security Council as the permanent member hopefully with the veto power. This will give India the leverage and play active role viz a viz Kashmir issue. Until then India should play diplomatically with Pakistan and super powers and try to win hearts and minds of people of PoK regions including Gilgit. India is today world's fifth largest economic power. India - a country with such a strong economic and social standing in the world should be the first choice of people of PoK rather than a country like Pakistan which is plagued with two nation theory and no economic gains. I do believe that one day Pakistan has to concede Baltistan to India and we are working on that too

Release COLA

Sir,

While framing the policy for the release of balance DA instalments and merger of 50 percent DA with the basic pay of the State Government employees by the three member Government Committee framed by the State Government recently, the woes of the Public Sector Undertaking employees may also be taken care of. It is really painful to note that the Government of the day is not taking any cognizance of the plight of the hapless employees of the public sector undertakings, who by virtue of their nature of the job are putting much more efforts in building the socio-economic fabric of the state by putting extra working hours, hazardous nature of jobs, less number of holidays and leave entitlement etc as compared to their counterparts in the State Government. For the last few years that whenever the question of release of Cost of Living Allowance to PSU employees arose, the Government dragged its feet out by reciting the only 'mantra' that the PSU's are not performing well. Thus depriving them of their due share of Cost of Living Allowance that automatically ought to have become due to them on account of rise in prices of day-to-day necessities. What an irony, when Government takes care of one set of State employees by releasing Dearness Allowance and other facilities to them but denies it to the other set of employees of the State public sector who too are exposed to the vagaries of nature and price rise? Does it not become incumbent upon the Government to dispense justice alike to all sets and categories of employees ?

Now in the given situation, the three member high powered committee in the saddle to deal with the various issues of the State employees, as a welfare state, does it not become incumbent upon the Government of the day headed by Mufti Sahib and Pt Mangat Ram Sharma to take the cognizance of the plight of the PSU employees and wide the scope of the Government Committee to include the release of Cost of Living Allowance to the PSUs as well.

Yours etc....
Rajendra Razdan,
Jammu.
