SRINAGAR, Apr 23: With just two days left to polling in Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha constituency, suspected militants launched an unsuccessful attack on the headquarters of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Maulana Azad Road today. Ten persons, including four officers of security forces and two photojournalists, sustained injuries. SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Ordinary Kashmiris were disillusioned with Farooq Abdullah’s government on account of a host of mundane reasons in 2002. They gave it what everybody in the Valley termed as ‘much needed jhatka’. But, there is no disputing the fact that irony and paradox reached a peculiar point of confluence: Institutions from bureaucracy to media, from Bar to intelligentsia and also from security forces to militants were united in the wish to see change of guard. While the militants and pro-Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami lent their support of silence to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), sections of armed forces celebrated the National Conference’s debacle. Farooq’s recent revelation that Army worked to ensure the defeat of his Ministers, if true, must be meaningful........more
