Stark
realities
Sir,
World
largest democracy is going to elect 14th
Lok Sabha amdist an election propaganda
blitz involving a drain of Rs. 500 crores
of tax payers money and initiating a
vicious cycle of false election promises.
The India shining tour or Bharat Udhay
Yatra by Lal Krishan Advani is
overshadowed by the stark realities of
Indian masses with ever increasing
miseries, poverty, hunger, malnutrition,
disease, illiteracy, sub human living,
fear, insanitation, lawlessness,
casteism, regionalism, inter religious
tensions, corruption, unemployment,
gender bias etc. as the statistics speak
otherwise with figures of 260 millions
below poverty line, 60 millions of under
four years old are moderately or severely
malnourished, 87 percent of women and
anaemic, 60 percent of children are
anaemic, 25 millions are without shelter,
171 million have no access to safe
drinking water, 290 million adults are
illiterate 53 percent of below five year
old are under weight. Likewise the killer
diseases such as AIDS, TB, Malaria, Kala
azar, cancer, leprosy, dengue fever,
nutritional problems are major challenges
in health sector. Under the prevailing
conditions, the India shining slogan is
not sounding melodious to majority of
Indians in general & villagers in
particular who constitute 70 percent of
Indian population.
India has
opened its economy under the pressure of
globalization & multinationals have
sweeped Indian market with a
materialistic ideology or rather Cola
culture spreading a message of sorrows
over spiritualism and contentment.
The funds
for poverty alleviation of weaker section
of society like scheduled castes &
scheduled tribes & people living
below poverty line never reach the
targeted population. Likewise the
subsidies for agriculture sector, rural
development, health, education sector
meet the same fate in corrupt
administration. Adulteration in
fertilizers, medicines & petroleum
products has direct linkages with
politicians, bureaucrats, police &
businessman.
The Indian
electorate shall definitely seek answer
to the questions as - How shall the
corruption, poverty, unemployment,
disease be eradicated? When shall our
farmers & labourers be free from
despair & worries? When shall our
youth have secured future?
These
shadows have to be removed with the light
of nationalism & with concrete
positive agenda.
Yours
etc...

Prejudice
against languages
Sir,
Refer news
item 'Urdu language of India, not Muslim'
published in the Daily Excelsior on April
4.
The
statement by eminent film director and
lyricist is ingenous. He has rightly said
that there should be no prejudice against
Urdu.
Not only
Urdu, but every language should be
respected and preserved. No group of
Government should ever try to do any harm
to the language spoken by any other
group. Language is a history of that
particular group. Moreover, it contains
knowledge, information which is very
important for the survival of mankind. If
we do something wrong to Sanskrit, we may
lose a precious treasure. The knowledge
about music, medicines and other aspects
of our life are contained in it.
Moreover,
one expresses one's throughts,
conceptions, and can communicate very
well in one's mother tongue.
The
Government of India as well as the State
Governments should encourage people to
preserve dying languages to preserve our
history and culture of which we are
proud.
Yours
etc...

Cricket
controversies
Sir,
"Sports
not only builds character but also
reveals it." This is the first and
foremost slogan of every game and every
sports person is supposed to meet up to
it, and that is why people believe that a
sports oriented society lives, grows,
flourishes, and excels in best human way.
The first
cricket test played at Multan between
India and Pakistan of the on going series
met with controversy despite India
winning the sole game in Pakistan and in
a comprehensive way. The controversy, as
every body might be knowing came out over
the statement made by crickets playing
legend Sachin Tendulkar, who is loved by
whole of non playing and playing
cricketing fraternity of the world after
India declared at 675 for 5.
Now the
question arises how far the personal game
or personal landmarks should be given
importance. If a person is playing for
team or country is the player playing
really only for country or team without
taking note of ones own achievements and
attainments. Regarding this I can say, no
body can become a successful cricketer or
sportsman in ones own discipline unless
one hasnt personal interest,
personal attainments, personal landmarks
and above all personal goal and if you
dont have all this in you, you
cant become really a successful
sportsman, liked and loved sports person
besides how hard you try to die this
inner urge, it will never, as this is in
human nature.
Question
arises how far the statement of Tendulkar
is justified, and how far he pleased
people with this way of presenting his
anguish? Perhaps no body knows, even
Dravid at times may be finding himself in
a delimma as what ever he did was it so
wrong, also Tendulkar himself might be
thinking: was it really me, who made an
outburst and was not aimed at any body
specific, also media couldnt left
itself behind in fuelling the issue by
making some wrong interpretations.
Ganguly on
the other hand openly made a statement
that whatever happened in Multan was
wrong, which I think is the most
irresponsible statement on his part. All
this clearly shows that Ganguly was
trying to exaggerate things by showing
open prejudice. Like a true sportsman
Ganguly should have tried something
counterproductive by trying to pacify
wrong, if any, to get team back on rails,
thereby not indulging in any such act,
which may harm the ethics of game.
Despite
whatsoever happened and perhaps may
happen in the days to come, Dravid
received lots and loud applauds from the
cricketing world for the sense of
maturity he has shown in Multan by
writing history with Indias maiden
win against Pakistan in Pakistan,
Tendulkar may not have been intentional
in his expression but still media
wont let this opportunity go so
easily and will definitely let him be the
coolest guy in the present day cricketing
world, which he no doubt is and Ganguly
may feel a bit insecure about his future
as Indian captain but reflecting true
sportsmanship he should admire good
things and good deeds and at times should
himself pave path for others who really
deserve things in that manner.
Yours
etc.
