Chaos
on Jammu roads
Sir,
In Jammu
city, Matadors Undeniably constitute the
backbone of Public transport system. This
is a great boon to the common people. But
there are few problems associated with
the operation of Matadors on Jammu roads.
The matador operators donot behave as
responsible citizens of the society.
Drivers engaged by the owners donot have
good driving habits. They drive rashly
and negligently. Their dangerous driving
poses real threat to the life of people
especially aged, children and women. It
appears the matadors ply like killing
machines on the Jammu roads.
Traffic
people also donot perform their duty
properly and consistently. They must
regulate their operation as per the norms
of traffic. The drivers appear to be
money maniacs. They nurse a tendency to
overload, indulge in unnecessary racing
for more fares. They abruptly stop the
speeding Matadors in the middle of the
roads to pick up passengers. Furthermore,
the jampacked Matadors become a nasty
source of nuisance for the travellers
comprising pre-dominantly women folk,
hapless old people, female students.
Undesirable tapes are played in the
Matadors in a loud volume. The tapes are
changed midway in speed and at times
cause serious accidents. This unwanted
practice must be curbed jointly and
severally by the Matador operators.
Traffic officials and the drivers who are
also responsible citizens of the society.
Yours

Increasing
agricultural produce
Sir,
This has
reference to the newsitem" CM for
increasing agriculture, horticulture
produce" published in the Daily
Excelsior.
Agriculture
and horticulture produce is the backbone
of Indian economy. Unfortunately, it has
not received the trust it has in
developed countries. In India we still
use outmoded tools for agricultural
purposes. That is why, it will take us a
lot of time to become self sufficient in
agricultural production. To meet the
challenge, it is imperative to adopt new
technologies and farming systems.
However,
it has been seen that the conditions of a
farmer in India is quite miserable. Due
to apathetic attitude of the Government
the farmers in Andhra Pradesh committed
suicides. The living standard of these
people is quite low as compared to their
western counterparts. Farming in India
has another aspect i.e empowerment of
rural women.
Women
continue to contribute substantially in
agricultural activities. From dawn to
dusk they toil and sweat profusely.
Despite working for longer hours they
have not achieved financial independence.
If attention is paid to this sector by
way of providing subsidies loans, and
other incentives to farmers, surely it
would benefit farmers in general and
women is particular.
Yours
etc...

Pak
not claiming Kashmir
Sir,
Apropos
news item entitled, "Pak not
claiming whole of Kashmir" in
esteemed daily, dated October 14, 2003, I
hereby submit that Pakistan has already
illegally occupied one-third of the
State's territory, now what does he want
more? I fail to understand that on what
basis he is claiming to be a party to the
solution of the Kashmir issue.
If he
claims it on the basis that Pakistan
still holds the territory of Kashmir,
then at the same time, he should keep in
mind that China also still holds the
territory of the State, then she should
also be a party to the dispute.
Further,
he is not supposed to issue statements
regarding violence in Gujrat, he should
set his own house in order.
Yours...
