Implore standard in Govt schools

Sir,

I want to bring to the notice of the Education Minister that the condition of the Government Primary school is deteriorating day by day. As we all know the students admitted in the Government schools are basically from poor and illiterate families. The parents send their children to these schools with the hope for securing good and complete education for their children. But in reality it is not so. As soon as students enter the premises of their school, they are forced to clean the playground. After it they have their morning prayers etc. But teachers do not care for their studies. Instead of teaching or guiding students, teachers write some topic on the blackboard and allow students to copy it. The whole day students copy it and murmur it. But teachers do not check those copies of students to know whether they did it or not. Also sometimes only one subject is taught in a day. As parents are illiterate, they do not know what their children are doing in the school. The result is that parents have to send their children for tuitions even if they may not be in a position to afford it. So what is the fun of these Government schools and of free and compulsory education. It is better to send children to private institutions.

Though much depends upon the character and behaviour of a teacher but now-a-days teaching has become a part-time job for almost all the Govt. teachers. Still the department can issue appropriate instructions to all the institutions that the concerned teachers must check copies of all the students with date. It must be a regular feature. Moreover there is a general trend in Primary schools that the teachers especially the lady teachers assign the teaching job to Class-IV employees while they themselves rest or devote their time to knitting, chatting etc. There is a lot of 'Deadwood' in the Education Department as compared to other departments and that is needed to be weeded out, ofcourse after giving them reasonable time to improve, if the Government is capable of imposing discipline and accountability. Primary Education can excel otherwise there is every possibility of going these primary education institutions from bad to worse. Education Department requires stablization and monitoring rather than expansion. In the given circumstances, education, for its brighter future, needs to be privatized and poor and needy need be helped financially rather than creating an infrastructure which is proving a burden for the department as well as for the public exchequer.

So, I request the Education Minister to have a survey in these primary schools and have a strict action against these careless and irresponsible teachers till an innovation is brought in department. Also one committee should be constituted in order to check routine work of the students and teachers so that children should get good and quality education as they are future of our country.

Release COLA before Diwali

Sir,

The Public Sector Employees are clamouring for release of due COLA for the last three years, but except verbal assurances nothing is being done in this regard. Due to non release of COLA the PSU employees are at the point of starvation. The coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is stressing for healing touch at every plat form but nothing is being done in reality so far as PSU employees are concerned. The government is requested to release the pending due COLA before Diwali so that poor workers of PSU heave a sigh of relief. Due to indifferent attitude of the government the PSU employees are facing lot of problems. Since the government is committed to redress the genuine grievances of the general public, it is earnestly hoped that the authorities who are at the helm of affairs will realize the gravity of the situation and will release the due installments of COLA before Diwali.

Release selection list

Sir,

The state government under its new policy advertised some posts of Asstt. Surgeons, JEs etc. etc. on contractual basis through Deputy Commissioner of various districts in the month of August 03. Thereafter the interviews were conducted in September 03. But now there is no information regarding the selection lists for various category of posts. Government has become silent on this issue. In the interest of unemployed youth who appeared in the interview the state government must release the selection lists as early as possible. I hope that the higher authorities will accede to this genuine demand of unemployed youths.

Exploit tourism potential of Jammu

Sir,

Apropos the Sunday Magazine article, "Jammu Tourism Potential...", it is a matter of shame that for how long the Jammu Region has been callously neglected and rejected by the rulers at different periods of time otherwise the beauty of Jammu province is not skin deep, to say proverbly.

In particular, I would draw the attention of my fellow Jammuites that Patni Top, Sanasar belt alone excels is beauty and grandeur to that of Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. The road from Patnitop to Sansar is in a shambles and at Sanasar itself there is no facility. It is disgusting to find that why the intellectuals and the other elements in the governing ministry are in coma about it. "Jaago" and let the world know that Jammu is as bewitching as Kashmir.

Clarification

In response to the letter regarding Sri Lahari Mahasaya published on October, 11th 2003 written by one Mr. R K Dhar seeking clarification in dates, I am to request you that the error might have come up either in composing or in proof reading.

The correct dates are as : 30th of September 1828 the date of birth of great Yogi Lahri Mahasaya and 26th of September 1985, the date of his entering into Mahasamadhi, ie., conscious exit from the physical body.
