Yoga
in present times
Sir,
This has
reference to the three day International
Conference on Yoga which has organised in
Jammu University from November 15.
Yoga is a
universal phenomenon which is confined
not only to the Hindu religion,
philosophy, dharma and community but also
to all religions and holy granths of the
world from philosophical and medical
point of view. It is related to
"Law" in the sense of
preserving the laws of Yoga enumerated by
Maharishi Patanjali, and rules of doing
asanas. Pranayam and mudras etc. Besides
the physical, mental and social traits of
Yoga, it has social, political, economic
and moral values etc.
In the
modern time, the Yogic practice has
become more significant than ancient. In
the ancient time, the Yoga was started
for spiritual values, awakening,
travelling, understanding spiritual
properties, obtaining salvation (Moksha)
and union of soul with God. In the Vedas
we find clear indications that the rishis
and the seers were quite familiar with
the highest state which is the goal of
Yoga. They used to achieve this through
procedures described as Dhyana, diksha,
tapas etc. The Kath Upanishad (II, 3,
10-11) defines Yoga as a state of
steadiness and control of the senses, as
well as the mind and the intellect, which
when attained, means an individual
completely faultless and unoffending.
In order
to meet the above mentioned challenges of
the pluralistic human society, we need
Yoga practice. The Yogic practice gives
us happiness of this world and spiritual
field.
Keeping in
mind the utilities of Yoga in modern time
all should do Yoga atleast from the nine
years of age to 90 years of age. There is
a need of field work of Yoga at various
places from time to time. Yoga is needed
in the institutions for the students who
are the backbone and future of the
country. In the hospital there shall be
Yogic practices as in other hospitals of
the world. Yoga is needed in different
"Forces" such as BSF, Army,
Police and Airforces etc. Generally, Yoga
is required in all fields of life.

WCG
short of funds
Sir,
The other
day I had an opportunity to go to the
Women College Gandhi Nagar Jammu. The
moment I entered the gate I was taken a
back to observe several dozens of
students sitting randomly on the bare
bath ways of the college probably during
the vacant time. It was an unpleasant
sight. I could not restrain asking one of
the students the reason. A very
surprising reply was that the college has
not provided any benches or the hike for
their use.
After
completing my assignment I pointed out
the above painful experience to the
Principal of the college, where otherwise
everything else was quite in order. She
had, however, her own reasons of failing
to get the required funds sanctioned for
construction of concrete benches and
raising a proper ground for use of the
students. The Principal had herself too a
parental like feeling about the avoidable
situation. She was visibly moved while
narrating the details of her efforts for
securing the funds.
Our State
has a good fortune of having a devoted
and a dedicated Minister for education. A
common man has been watching with
interest and satisfaction his constant
endeavours in bringing scientific
reformations in the education system as a
whole. In the very initial stages (i)
changing of nomenclature from 'Head
Mistress' to 'Head Master' for the female
teachers and (ii) doing away with the
chronic ailment of attachment of teachers
are quite praise worthy. Thereafter a
series of measures taken by the Minister
are indeed encouraging.
The above
being the virtuous dispensation of our
Education Ministry, it is quite certain
that the demand of funds by one of the
prestigeous colleges has not reached the
notice of Sh. Harsh Dev Singh. I,
therefore, would like to bring the matter
to the notice of the Education Minister
through the columns of our esteemed
paper. It is urged that an early sanction
is issued so that the budding flowers of
the nation do not suffer any more
particularly against the steady fall in
the mercury level in Jammu.
Yours
etc.....
