Mini bus services

Sir,

By stopping plying of Rajpura and Paloura bound matador vehicles through Exchange road and allowing only one way traffic, commuters of the area including college and school students have been facing great hardships Transport authorities under whose orders this facility has been withdrawn should understand that hardly 5 percent of the population have their own light vehicles. Majority of them have to depend on matador service. Those persons having no conveyance of their own especially handicapped and old aged persons have become victims of this recently introduced system.

The people of Sarwal have also been facing the problem of inadequate and irregular matador service. Hardly 5 or 6 rounds of matador service are being undertaken daily which is not sufficient to meet the requirement of commuters. There are numberless matadors plying on other routes like Janipura, Rajpura, Bantalab which could be diverted and asked to ply through Sarwal.

The matador service should be channelised in such a manner that every locality of the city remains connected with the service so that school going children in particular and public in general be benefitted with the regular service of mini buses.

The commuters are also facing problem of reaching their destinations in time. It takes atleast one and half hour by virtue of irregular matador service resulting in delay in reaching Bari Brahmana from the main Ambphalla stand where as it is only half hour driving distance. This is the case for several other routes, as a result the commuters cannot reach their desired working place in time.

We request the Transport Authorities to look into the grievances and take remedial measures in the interest of general public.

Big 'B' and spastic children

Sir,

Recently the cine-super star of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan (the big B) was honoured as the Ambassador to UNICEF. This doyen of Indian Cinema, enthralled millions of viewers, cine-goers through his mellifluous melo-drama. His spectacular performance in matchless movies left the audience dumb founded, rather spell bound by touchy roles.

His appealing ads, on the television screen for the polio awareness has bewitched the young as well as the old and has become a vital force in tempting women to immunize the children to save them from this dreaded degenerative disease.

The evergreen film personality's magical voice shall woo the viewers throughout the planet and render a lot of valuable service to the blooming buds (children), when his penetrating appeals shall go on the screen focussing upon the socially and economically deprived children, the female foeticide causing an alarming decline in the girl child ratio in developing countries especially in India. May God bless him in his endeavour to produce small films through UNICEF, educating young mothers to prevent their children from the communicable and deadly diseases through his magical voice to save the future of this planet from infant mortality and let the buds of different hues blossom forth to fructify with fragrance to make this planet a paradise to live in a healthy disease free and peaceful atmosphere.

Pensioner's plea

Sir,

Myself, as a pensioner knowing the hardships, pensioners go through during these days of continuous inflation, assign to myself the duty of reminding the benign State Government kindly to consider release of DA at the rate of 4 percent which stands due with effect from 1.7.2003, without loss of further time. Central Government pensioners have since been drawing this percentage of Dearness Allowance whileas the State Government dilly dallys its release and thus puts the pensioners to wilful difficulties. The market inflation puts enough pressure over the pensioners because their income for sustenance of life is too meagre to withstand the market trend of rising prices. Perpetual medication for the aged body is also imperative to sustain life. In such a situation it is the duty of the Government to come to the succour of the pensioners.

Does the silence over what is due to the pensioners behove this State Government to which these pensioners have given their blood during the period of service to the State Government? Why are these elderly needy ex-employees kept in perpetual needy situation whenever increase in the DA percentage becomes due to them. May it be suitable to add here that 40 percent of the pensionary emoluments is spent over the purchase of medicines without which pensioner cannot spend a day.

It may be added that 90 percent pensioners have to depend on their pensions. Let this missive from a pensioner invoke the dead sense of duty of the Government so that the pensioners to not suffer further, unheared and uncared.

Yours etc...
