Approximately about five lakh devotees from state and out-side visited the Mini Maha-Kumb and performed Parikaramas of the Yagyashalla. On the eve of the Puran-ahuti of the Maha Yagna, prominent Sadhus from different parts of the country today arrived City of Temples to participate in this eleven days long religious congregation. Maha-Mandleshwar Ram Parkashji Maharaj of Gaddi Baba Lalji, Maha-Mandleshwar Bhagwan Dassji and Maha-Mandleshwar Dr Romeshwar Dassji Maharaj were among prominent saints who arrived today to participate in Puran-Ahuti. Jai Jai Shree Radhey, Har Har Mahadev, Jai Shree Ram and Sita Sita Ram Bolo-Radhey Radhey Sham Bolo repeatedly rented the air as devotees were seen shouting religious slogans while taking Parikaramas. So heavy was the rush that about 20 feet wide Parikarama was looking tight and devotees were seen finding it difficult to take Parikarama. They were jostling with each other to find a way. As lakhs of people have been doing Parikaramas every day, this track has become dusty but unmindful of the dust devotees, gripped with religious fervour, were seen doing Parikaramas chanting religious slogans and reciting Mantras. The devotion of the devotees can be gauged from the fact that some of them doing Parikaram despite being the fact that there feet developed bruises. Some devotees with Malas in their hands were seen reciting Maha Gyatri Mantra while taking Parikarama. Amidst recitation of Vedic Mantras and chanting of hymns, havans in the Yagyashalla continued for the eighth day today. As reported earlier, 100 Kundas have been constructed in the Yagyashalla to perform havana. Some Kundas are specially designed by the scholars and Purohits from outside the State. Apart from performing Parikaramas, devotees also participated in religious functions including recitation of Ramayana Paath, Shrimadh Bhagwat Path, Kirtan, Gyatri Mantra Jaap and Hanuman Chalisa. Large number of devotees were also seen doing different Paaths. Meanwhile, Raas Leela was special attraction of todays functions. Artists from Varindaban today staged scenes of friendship between Lord Krishana and his childhood friend Sudama. Through Raas Leela artists depicted how Lord Krishana spread the message of equality and socialism even during his childhood. Large number of devotees were today also seen lined up outside Kutia of Balak Yogeshwar Maharaj to have glimpses of the saint who is the main source behind organising this historical Yagna in the City of Temples. Jai Jai Radhey, Har Har Radhey repeatedly rented the air when Yogeshwar Maharaj interacted with devotees and accepted flowers and other offerings. He was seen repeatedly asking the devotees to take benefit of this Yagna. Despite lakhs of devotees thronged in the venue, functioning of Langer was going on smoothly. It was heartening to see how small children were politely serving Langer to the devotees. Despite heavy rush, they were not only serving every body but also manning the affairs with their polite behaviour. But, on the other hand, traffic arrangements remained totally collapsed due to unprecedent rush. Traffic cops were helplessly watching choked road and jams on the roads connecting Yagna venue. Due to mismanagement of the administration movement of devotees on the only temporary bridge was also marred with chaos. Most of the time vehicles of VIPs were seen standing on the only bridge, creating hurdles for the movement of devotees. However, Ram Rajya Nar Narayan Sewa-Ashram Trust, organising this Yagna has made elaborate arrangements for Puran-Ahuti which will be held tomorrow. |

Sales Tax Bar Association warns Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 4: Sales Tax Bar Association in an emergency meeting held here today discussed the situation arising out of all and hollow claims of Sales Tax Authorities at Lakhanpur and condemned dictatorial attitude of the authorities there. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of advocate G V Grover. The Bar full endorsed the Government resolve to check tax evasion and bring the tax evaders and unscrupulous elements to book. Mr Grover pointed out that under the garb of checking vehicles at Lakhanpur, the disrespect being shown by the authorities towards various provisions of General Sales Tax Act 1962 are alarming and point towards dictatorial executive actions which curbs the Authority and Rule of Law. And if this practice is allowed to continue by the Government then it shall gradually lose the credibility amongst masses. He said the legislature that enacted Section 15 -A which deals with the establishment of check posts and inspection of goods in Transit at Lakhanpur and other check posts of the state, while laying down various provisions to check pilferage of tax has also ensured that the powers vested in various authorities are not misused. It is unfortunate that authorities at Lakhanpur are bent upon to destroy the sanctity and the spirit of Law by arbitrarily and illegally detaining and withholding trucks/ buses and other transport at Lakhanpur barrier for days together, asking the transporters to produce the consignees and compelling them to pay huge amount of penalties and securities by force and coercion. The members also expressed displeasure over the delay caused in implementing decisions taken in the meeting with commissioner Sales tax on June 25 this years, regarding Centralised receipt counter, issue of registration within 20 days of application and adherence to self assessment guidelines. |

Involve indigenous militant groups in talks : Tarigami Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 4: Veteran Leftist leader and member Co-ordination Committee Mohd Yusuf Tarigami has stressed the involvement of indigenous militant groups in proposed dialogue to be initiated by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani. Without naming any militant outfit, Tarigami favoured "unconditional dialogue" with indigenous group of militants in addition to Hurriyat Conference. "In order to restore peace in trouble State, we are of the view that dialogue should be held with the organisations including those who are outside democratic frame. The talks must be unconditional", he told EXCELSIOR today. Though the Communist leader didnt name Hizbul Mujahideen, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which heads the coalition Government of which Tarigami is an important constituent, had advocated talks with Hizbul, which mostly comprised the local militants. "Albeit late, the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister, who also holds Home portfolio of the country, is a welcome step. There has been a consistent demand and rightly so that the will of Kashmir people should be taken into account in any negotiations on their future. Their involvement cant be ignored", Tarigami, the CPM leader and MLA Kulgam said. "Involvement of separatists in the process of dialogue has always been stressed by those who argue for peace in the State", he said but added one failed to understand that what happened to three previous interlocutors on KashmirKC Pant, Arun Jaitley and N N Vohra. Even the Parliament is unaware of the fate of three interlocutors, he pointed out. "We dont object to the appointment of Advani. We have been consistently appealing for sincerity and transparency in the dialogue. However, what is required is that there has to be some seriousness and rhetoric, which is seen, must now stop. Something bigger is at stake and, so those at the help of affairs and trusted with the job, must act with sincerity and seriousness", Tarigami, an important partner in the coalition Government and one of the power centre, observed. Welcoming the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) initiated by India to improve relations with Pakistan, the Left leader observed: "one hopes that this initiative will generate a climate in sub continent which can finally lead to dialogue between two countries". Kashmir and cross-border terrorism could be the issues among others, he asserted. Response of Pakistan establishment, he observed, was not quite unexpected. "The real problem with Indo-Pak relations is that it has lost bilateralism and got too much entangled with internal politics of two countries. Unfortunately, on both side of divide, the political forces in power are such that thrive on tension and hate campaign against each other. This makes any move for peace between them difficult and thorny". However, Tarigami said, the height bound attitude persists in the power formation of two countries and there are frequent exchange of acrimonious statements. But on the whole, he added, the realisation has gained greater ground on both sides that there is no alternative to living in peace and harmony. "Both the countries have strength and capacity to resolve issues through dialogue", he averred but regretted that, sometimes, it seems as it leadership in the two countries are in a race to appease the bigger nations like the United States. Saying that the CBMs didnt seem have been initiated under any external pressure, he said the powers, which are expected to pressurise the two countries, are involved in their own agenda in Iraq and Palestine. "Realisation is coming within a larger section of public that issues confronting both the countries must be resolved peacefully. Despite hawkish agenda, they cant shut their eyes. They cant go against the peoples wishes", Tarigami noted and said :"small steps can lead to major breakthroughs. So the present initiative will help us to move forward and open up the frozen contacts". |
