MD
/MS aspirants' plea
Sir,
On behalf
of a group of doctors aspiring in the
forthcoming postgraduate entrance
examination, I congratulate the
authorities for issuing SRO 364 to
streamline the M.D/M.S entrance
examination system. The new SRO is in
line with the admission policy of AIIMS,
New Delhi and other leading postgraduate
medical institutions of the country.
The
entrance test, which had become a joke
under the previous system, had
deteriorated into an annual marriage and
divorce exercise. Most of the selected
candidates who joined diploma or degree
courses kept their exit doors open, only
to jump over to their specialities of
choice after appearing in subsequent
entrance tests. This way these doctors
would mar the chances of their colleagues
who would have lovingly pursued careers
in those specialities.
Under the
previous system, postgraduate training
period was treated as a pastime interval.
Unscrupulous doctors undergoing training
courses were more interested in preparing
for the next entrance test rather than
studying the specialty in which they were
enrolled by their own choice. In the
process these doctors also managed to
avoid rural postings by joining a series
of postgraduate courses, using the back
door of entrance tests.
I feel the
new SRO shall plug most of the loopholes
and safeguard the professional interests
of doctors. I am sure that the SRO shall
be instrumental (a) in injecting
discipline in the process of selection;
(b) in ensuring commitment on part of the
selected doctors to adhere to the
specialities opted by them; and (c) in
saving recurring wastage of expenses
incurred on unscrupulous doctors who
leave their training courses midway.
The doctor
community in general appreciates the
spirit of the SRO and supports the
efforts of the Government to streamline
the postgraduate selection process.
Yours
etc...
