Girl
child ratio
Sir,
Refere to
the news item 'UN shocked at adverse girl
child ratio in India, published in the
Daily Excelsior on October, 30. The
decline in sex ratio in the country is
indeed a matter of concern. The situation
is more appaling in the States of
Haryana, Punjab, and Gujrat.
It quite
clearly reflects that the Government in
these States are not quite sensitive to
women. In other words, it also means that
pre-natal sex determination tests are
carried out in these States despite a
supreme court ruling against these tests.
It also
reflects that the attitude of the society
has not changed considerably. The girl
child continues to be discriminated, and
rejected. During Ramnavmi days, girls are
propitiated, their feet are washed and
money is offered to them but during the
rest of year, they are subjected to bad
treatment. Isn't it ironical? This is not
true for a particular religion but for
whole of the society in India.
In order
to stop this practice, the Government
should enforce the laws pertaining to it,
honestly. Moreover, women have to take
initiative in this regard. Unless women
develop self respect for themselves, they
are bound to suffer. They have to
convince their partners the ill effects
of such a practice. They will have to
concentrate on the education of this
child and make her self dependent. Once
she will assumes power, she will feel
secure and can face the challenges of
life.
Doctors,
religious preachers too have to play
their role in this social affair. The
doctor have to stop the role of
murderers. For a petty amount they kill a
person, isn't it a shame on their
profession and the country they are
serving. Doctor is regarded as next to
God, he should therefore, keep the faith
of the people in tact.
Yours etc...
Ram Kumar,
Barnai
