Heritage colleges

Sir,

A big honour and great respect has been shown to both the oldest educational institutions i.e in Valley the S P College and in Jammu the GGM Science College (previously known as Prince of Wales Colleges) by according them the status of Heritage Colleges. Hence much more responsibilities have been added for the students and teachers of these learning temples. Pray to the Almighty that enough courage, tolerance, strength to face the challenges, be blessed to the students.

The people of Jammu are proud of and are fortunate enough to have among them such a monumental college to which great Army Generals, big politicians, eminent scientists highly learned scholars, teachers of reputation, advocates, judges, doctors, engineers, architects, administrators, civil and political dignitaries, super star industrialist, shining players and world fame writers and poets are linked.

The college is going to complete and celebrate its first century of existence which itself is a testimony of its being in order of merit of course achieved with the help co-operation and continued struggle by the students and with the sacrificing abilities of the teachers. Personalities who held the reins of Science College, Jammu were men of letters with outstanding performance in maintaining the discipline and running the administration. Its guardians will always remain as the dominating figures to preserve this archaeological master piece.

Gestures of Ist citizen

Sir,

The Citizen's of our country are experience some healthy gestures for the first time. Generally the political leaders exploit the weak and needy sections of the society and make their presence felt among huge gatherings because the sufferer becomes their targets easily. The political leaders succeed in attaining their vested interests.

Our President Scientist Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam did make a history by visiting all the three regions of the State and mixing with the people for no political reason at all. Apparently, the young and the old of our State found for the first time that they are the important members of the society. The constitution of India deligates all the administrative powers to the Prime Minister and the Chief Ministers while as the Ist Citizen of India is supreme without powers. With all this, there is a great satisfaction that the crown of our country the President of India has come to know the plight of our down trodden, weak and people below poverty line.

There is no chance of representing the situation other than reality. As a man with vested interests is seldom expected to call a spade a spade. There is no double opinion about the fact that the personality holding the highest post of the country will never mis-represent the condition of the people.

The administration which has all along depended upon the reports and findings of the bureaucrats and political supporters, must give credit to such gestures of the Ist Citizen of the Country and accordingly solve the problem of the people.

The President of our country is a secular as the sun. He belong to all irrespective of caste colour or creed. He went to the cave of Mata Vaishno Devi and the shrine of Dargah at Hazratbal Srinagar with one and the same spirit of praying for the peace and tranquillity of Jammu and Kashmir. Such gestures deserve appreciation. The unbiased observations if accepted and recognised by the powers that be, will be highly commendable.

Medical Allowance for pensioners

Sir,

Alas ! this poor pensioner, mostly in the ailing State of his health, but crowned with an auspicious title of "Senior citizen of the country/State," has been left our in the cold from the magnificent budget presented by the Finance Minister of the State Beigh Sahib.

A simple and genuine demand to enhance medical allowance by Rs. 500/- instead of Rs. 100/- would not have affected his budget nor emptied the coffers which are already dry by utilization of funds on non-productive activities.

A physiological change coupled with psychological effect can candidly speak for the old age.

A heavenly sympathy, a drought of simple human pity could alleviate the trouble of this pensioner crippled economically by social and religious tyranny and morally neglected.

The pensioner needs economic boost to survive for the day he inhales, a moral duty that rests with the Government.

In this backdrop I suggest the Government to reconsider the plight of pensioner, enhance his medical allowance to Rs. 500/- or in the alternative provide him with a sensible, foolproof and workable scheme accessible to obtain the services of a doctor of his choice to save him from the cankering cares of poverty.
