Peace and development

Sir,

One million dollar question "Can we purchase peace by throwing sympathetic avenues most abundantly and extravagantly in this strife torn state of our's... ?. Launching plans and programmes by the Chief Minister, Mr Mufti in various districts of the state, carrying Development vehicle in full speed, is a healthy contribution for the restoration of peace and socio-economic development of the State. It leaves not a spec of doubt behind the purpose to bail out the State from killing to living. Mufti Sahib alone cannot take the boat to the shore unless masses, political parties both at regional and national level contribute all their might extending support to him for the welfare of the State nay our country.

Lot has been destroyed and lot we have to accomplish. The total negligence in the infrastructure is the root cause for the retardation of development in the State. Naturally, we have to focus our main attention for the development of infrastructure making it free from snags and encumbrances. Unless we study the socio-economic conditions and their impact on the various classes in the society from the grass root level it will be quite abortive to move further. Out of this analysis we can draw conclusions, which could be the guiding factor for the advancement.

Mufti Sahib's efforts to undertake democratic decentralisation serves a wake up call for the officials in the entire administrative setup to work with responsibility and zeal accountable to the elective representatives of the State. This decentralisation will break the spine of all those who have been enjoying the sweet benefits of political centralisation in the Government and the other disciplines squeezing the fundamental rights of the individuals. In the wake of it, Panchayats will be empowered liberally to usher a Panchayati Raj. This alone is possible when measures for comprehensive dencentralisation are set about, to serve as a protective social security measures taking care for destitutes, crippled, handicapped and lower strate of the society living below the poverty line opening a vista of purchasing power, a moral boost for the neglected. Optimum efforts are to be made to set right abnormality, aberration, which has ruined the states economy and social fabric due to wrong handling.

The promises and assurances held out by Mufti Sahib in eradicating all evils to retrieve the lost glory deserves all accolades and I am sure under his leadership we will achieve the desired object.

Wipe out corruption

Sir,

I would like to draw the attention of our new Government towards the following few suggestions that would help in strengthening the Infrastructure of the economy of our State:-

There is a strong need to wipe out corruption, and nepotism and from the society-special squads should be made who can check and control corruption and malpractices which are seen as common now in all the Government offices including civil and police. There should be surprise raids by the ministers in all the departments as it has been seen that the employees after marking their attendance remain elusive from their offices. Misuse of Government vehicles after office hours should be stopped. It has been seen that petrol worth lakhs has been bring spent every day by the officers. They frequently use of the Government vehicles for their private work. Even the family members of these officers are misusing the vehicles which are meant for official work only. If the misuse of vehicles is controlled, not only burden on the State exchequer will be reduced but it also reduce the traffic pressure. Traffic deptt. should be strengthened. It has been seen that instead of performing their duty of regularisation of traffic officials are seen busy in greasing their palms. Vigilance Organisation should be given free hand to deal strongly with corrupt Govt. officials. There should be vigilance check at Lakhanpur Toll Post and RTO office. These two are the main revenue collection centres of the Govt. and there are often complaints regarding corruption in these Departments which causes a great loss to the Government revenue. After removing these malpractices, only then one can expect stability and justice from the present Government. There should be strict punishment, to the corrupt officials.

Act tough

Sir,

This refers to the another terrorist attack on the historical Raghunath temple in Jammu. It is ironic that the terrorists trained, armed and sent across the border by the Pakistan establishment continue to murder, maim the innocents. Now it is not "if" but "when" the next terrorist attack on a high value Indian target would occur.

The shameless Indian leaders keep on simply blaming Pakistan, raising the rhetoric simply with an eye on the elections somewhere in some state and doing nothing.

Now we see the India's problem of state sponsored terrorism from Pakistan on the margins of the global war on terrorism. India's solitary fight against the terrorism leashed by a nuclear neighbour is barely acknowledged, with attack of any magnitude being linked to the Indo-Pak conflict rather than to the pan Islamic terrorism. It is a shame that Indonesia and Philipines appear to be bigger sufferers of terrorism than India, a country that has lost tens of thousands of its citizens to terrorism. Few days back Russian President rebuffed US President George W Bush by telling him on his face "where is Osama" "who is playing host to him". US President was lost for words to explain as he knew the answer. The Indian leadership must assert themselves like Russian President. Mr Valadimir Putin draws international respect despite the poor economic condition of Russia precisely because he is not a wimp.

India is too soft a nation and its officials are too polite to talk bluntly like the battery of those who come to New Delhi advising US to remain calm and start dialogue with Pakistan. Can we single out a one leader to stand up and dare the Americans to start dialogue with Saddam Hussain or with Osama bin Laden?

We have to fight our war against terrorism on our own and do what is necessary to pummel the jehadi network. The so called healing touch is a farce. The wars can be won with swords and the powerful hands that handle these. History tells us so.

India must act now or else its honour and dignity shall be at stake.
