Srinagar, Jan 2: The temperatures across Kashmir today continued to be below normal with Weatherman forecasting wet weather for rest of the week from tomorrow.
The Meteorological Department has forecast wet weather from tomorrow that can last for rest of the week across the State. The wet weather will end the long dry spell in Kashmir.
A MeT official said that the night’s lowest temperature was minus 4 degrees Celsius in Srinagar and in Pahalgam it was minus 5 degrees Celsius and in Gulmarg it was minus 4 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 3.6 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 0.7 degree Celsius and Kupwara minus 4.6 degree Celsius.
Leh town recorded minus 9.8 degree Celsius and Kargil minus 7.9 degree Celsius as the minimum temperature today.
Jammu city recorded 8.7 degrees Celsius, Katra 8.8 degrees Celsius, Batote 2.7, Banihal minus 0.4 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah town witnessed minus 1.0 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 9.9 degree Celsius against yesterday’s 9.2 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded 12.1 degree Celsius, Pahalgam recorded 10 degree Celsius, Kokernag recorded 10.3 degree Celsius, Kupwara 11.1 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 3.6 degree Celsius, Leh 4.5 degree Celsius and Kargil 5.9 degree Celsius as maximum day temperature.
Jammu recorded a maximum of 23.2 degree Celsius, Katra 19.9 degree Celsius, Banihal 15.2 degree Celsius, Batote 14.0 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 11.8 degree Celsius.
Dal Lake and other water bodies around Srinagar city and elsewhere in the Valley again froze partially today due to sub zero temperatures.
The taps and water pipes also froze at several places during the night leading to the water shortage in certain areas in the morning. Frosty mornings and slippery roads cause problems to pedestrians and motorists in Srinagar city and other places.
Due to cold weather conditions people are mostly staying indoors to save themselves from cold wave. The power generation has gone down leading to power crisis in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, due to heavy snowfall at Pir Panjal authorities closed Mughal Road this afternoon. About 6 inch to one feet snowfall has been reported in Pir Ki Gali, SDPO Surankot Riaz Tantray said.
