Weapon snatching bid foiled, sniffer dog killed

SRINAGAR, May 25: Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Army troops of 20 JAT posted at Eagle Post detected movement of three to four infiltrators who tried to sneak in during the wee hours today.

After being challenged, the infiltrators fired at the troops leading to a brief gunfight but the infiltrators managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
And the Army operation against a group of infiltrating militants in Keran sector of the North Kashmir’s Kupwara district is on and huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered.
Army yesterday foiled a major infiltration bid in Keran sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district by pushing back a group of 15 heavily armed militants near Waziran Shallebhootu area.
Militants opened fire on the Army triggering an encounter which continued for several hours. However, the troops pushed back the infiltrating militants but the massive operation to ensure no militants infiltrated is going on.
Army today recovered four AK- 47 magazines, 34 ammunition rounds, one GPS,one YSMS SET, two binoculars, one USB cable, one radio booster antenna, six knee caps, 10 pair of socks, 10 inners, 10 back packs, medicine, 10 packets of biscuits, 10 pieces of chocolate, four packets of frozen chicken, 8 Rotis, two aluminum ladders and 5 sticks.
In the meantime, a sniffer dog of Army was killed in a grenade attack at Neehama area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.
Militants lobbed the grenade at Army’s 34 RR camp at Neehama area of Kulgam this afternoon. It exploded inside the camp resulting into the death of a sniffer dog.
And police today foiled rifle snatching bid when two militants tried to approach towards Station Grid Wanpoh area of Kulgam district. However, the Sentry fired some gunshots in air and militants escaped from the spot. The area was cordoned off but militants had fled.
The train services from Srinagar to Banihal was suspended today following protests at Arwani area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today against arrest of youth. However, train service from Srinagar to Baramulla operated as per the schedule.
A group of people this morning took to streets and staged a protest against the arrest of several youths during nocturnal raids in the area. The protesters stopped the train services at Arwani and demanded the release of all the youth arrested by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police during night raids.
The youth were picked from the area for questioning in connection with the firing incident on May 15 and grenade attack on May 23. On May 15, an SPO was killed and another constable was injured after militants attacked a police vehicle at Pazalpora area of Bijbehara and on May 23, 10 persons suffered injuries after militants lobbed a grenade on a forces Gypsy which missed the target and exploded on the roadside.
