Wakhlu for creating mass awareness

JAMMU, Jan 30: Jammu and Kashmir State Social Welfare Board (JKSSWB) today organized an Inter College Symposium on ‘Rights of Girl Child’ to highlight the importance of wellbeing of girl child in a progressive nation.
The symposium was followed by an awareness rally taken out at Government College for Women Parade ground, Jammu with participation of students from different city colleges.
The event was inaugurated by Chairperson Jammu and Kashmir State Social Welfare Board Khem Lata Wakhlu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson highlighted the importance for protection and safeguarding of rights of the girls. She said that no society can dream of progress without extending equal rights to womenfolk to grow socially and achieve success in life. She called for launching a vigorous campaign in this regard so that the existing discrimination in the society against the girl child was minimized.
The Colleges that participated in the Inter-College Symposium were M.A.M College, Women College Parade ground, Science College, Commerce College, Government College for Engineering and Technology, College of Education, Degree College Paloura and Women College Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Others, who attended the programme, included Director Colleges, Prof. T.A. Kawoosa, Principal Women College Parade ground Prof. Hemla Aggarwal, senior officers, different Heads of Departments, NGOs, students, staff of Colleges besides Creche Works and Counsellors of FCC centres.
Earlier, Executive Director and Secretary J&K SSWB Aamir Ali presented welcome address and highlighted the activities of the Board.
Later, Athar Ali presented vote of thanks. Prof. Rita Jitender, Dr. Amita Gupta, Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat delivered lectures on various topics.
Wahid Anjum of Government MAM College bagged first position, while Shriya Raina of Government College for Women Parade and Neha Jamwal of College of Education Jammu were declared as 2nd and 3rd respectively.
