VOK raids ARTO’s house

SRINAGAR, July 15: Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) today raided the house of Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Shopian Abdul Majid Bhat and recovered a huge amount of cash and other property documents.
The recoveries include cash of Rs 32 lakh in addition to Rs 99,000 demonetized currency. They also recovered gold worth Rs 10 lakhs and a licensed pistol along with 47 rounds of ammunition.
The other recoveries include ownership documents of plots in Punjab and Chadoora in district Budgam, checkbooks and passbooks of various banks.
The raid was carried out at Bagh-e-Mehtaab residence of Abdul Majid Bhat son of Khazir Mohammad, the ARTO Shopian.
The Vigilance Organisation Kashmir also raided the residence of his brother-in-law Haji Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat son of Ghulam Mohamad at Heri Parigam.
Haji and ARTO jointly own a Cardboard factory with the name S S L  located at Hari Parigam in South Kashmir. The sleuths seized documents of the factory, five bank passbooks belonging to Ghulam Mohiuddin and one in the name of the ARTO. They also seized 10 ATM cards linked to these bank accounts.
The VOK have registered a case (FIR No 25) against the ARTO and investigations have been taken up.
It may be mentioned here that Governor N N Vohra has directed the Vigilance to act against top officials who have amassed wealth by corrupt means.
