JAMMU, Jan 5: Central Government has re-constituted Regional Empowered Comm-ittee (REC) for the Northern Region at its Regional Office, North Zone, Chandigarh.
The Committee will examine the proposals pertaining to diversion of forest land for non forestry purpose in the Northern Region covering the states of Haryana, Punjab, J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory of Chandigarh.
VN Sharma, a retired Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, J&K Government was re-appointed as one of the non- official members of the REC.
He has been the member of REC for the last two years. Other non official Members of the Committee are Kuldeep Singh, Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Punjab and Gaurav Gaur, a Professor for Social Work, Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Sharma has served in various capacities in Public Works Department, J&K Government and has been an eminent engineer. He has also served as Administrator of erstwhile Jammu Municipality.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata, Life Member of Indian Roads Congress, New Delhi and Life Member of Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi and also member of the Executive Committee of IIPA, Jammu.
