VLWs demand creation of posts of Panchayat Inspector in new CD Blocks

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Feb 20: Reiterating its demand of creation of posts of Panchayat Inspector in about 200 CD Blocks, All J&K VLWs’ Association has warned to go on mass pen down strike and also boycott Panchayat election process if its demand is not met within one month. Addressing a press conference here today, chief patron of the association, BA Mir, said that about 200 CD Blocks have been functioning without the post of Panchayat Inspector for last three years. He said that the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDD&PR) prepared a proposal for the creation of posts of Panchayat Inspector during the year 2013 and submitted it to finance Department, who turn down the proposal twice. Criticizing the working of Finance Department, Mir said that though the Finance Department has approved the posts of Planning Department as well as its own only to create the promotion avenues for its own department employees but it turned down the posts of Panchayat Inspector in RDD&PR and as a result, 177 CD Blocks created in the year 2013, have been functioning without the post of Panchayat Inspector. He said that on one hand Government says that it is committed for tall claims of strengthening Panchayati Raj System and on the other hand, abolished the most important post of Panchayat Inspector in these newly created CD Blocks. He said due to non-creation of posts of Panchayat Inspector, VLWs, who are already burdened, are pressurized to perform the job chart of the former i.e Panchayat election related works. “Despite number of representations to the department time and again, nothing has been done till now to create these posts in these 177 CD Blocks”, he added. Mir warned the department of resorting to mass pen down strike and boycott Panchayat election related works if posts of Panchayat Inspector are not created in the new 177 CD Blocks within one month.
