Visually Challenged climbers leave for NZ Sport Climbing Competition

JAMMU, Apr 15: 10-member team of Mountaineering Association of J&K including four officials left today for Delhi to participate in the 2nd North Zone Sport Climbing Competition for Visually Challenged persons scheduled to be held on April 17, 2017 at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex body for adventure sports in the country.
The team includes 3 girls namely Bhumika Chib, Riya Devi and Chadrika Jyoti, all from Louis Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless girls, Roop Nagar, Jammu and 3 boys Mahesh Singh, Wasim Akram and Mohd Azim Khan, all from Residential School for Blind, Roop Nagar, Jammu.
Shawetica Khajuria, Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, is the manager of the team and Shashi Kant Sharma is the coach of the team.
Two personal escorts of the visually challenged children namely Nivedita Shukla and Vijay Kumar are also accompanying the team.
The J&K team which underwent 9 days training before screened by the J&K State Sports Council, at Sprawling Buds School is expected to win some medals in the competition which will be held only in Lead Climbing on Top rope.
The team has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
Earlier, the sightless climbers were given an emotional send off by other climbers of the Mountaineering Association of J&K with whom they had been training for the last couple of days. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Ram Khajuria, Secretary Mountaineering Association of J&K, Navneet Gupta, Secretary, Snow Trail Mountaineers, Himani Choudhary, Ambreen Fatima, Shilpa Charak, Deepika Dutta, Juhi Jamwal, Poonam, Vaishali and Mrityunjay Sharma.
