JAMMU, Feb 5: State BJP spokesperson, Prof Virender Gupta, today called for a CBI investigation on the charges leveled by the Chief Engineer, Design Inspection and Quality Control, PN Bali against bureaucrats and others involved in looting the tax payers’ money.
He said that as per the report published in a daily newspaper on the basis of letter written by the Er PN Bali, there is a nexus of politicians, officers, engineers and contractors in minting crores of rupees in de-silting and in repair/maintenance of canals and Khuls every year. The Chief Engineer has alleged that hardly 10-15 per cent amount is actually utilized in the de-silting and repairs of canals/Khuls and rest of the money goes into the pockets of those at the helm of affairs.
Prof Virender, while citing the report, said that an amount of Rs 5 to 6 crore is released for the de-silting of canals/Khuls and Rs 15 crore for the maintenance/ repair. He said that the corruption in the de-silting and repair of canals and tributaries adversely affect the farmers as water does not reach the tail end and the farmers have to remain on the mercy of rains, thus affecting the agriculture production.
“It was also revealed that no tenders are called in the execution of works, the works executed are not checked at the ground level and crores of rupees are spent where about ten lakh of rupees are required”, the spokesperson said. The spokesperson appreciated the courage and honesty of Engineer PN Bali in exposing the misdeeds, irregularities and frauds committed in the department and requested the Government to protect the honour and dignity of such persons and asked for providing security to the daring Engineer.
