Village schools

Sir,
Refer news item ‘ Students, villagers protest, demand repair of school’DE Oct 15, 2018.
It is very shocking to note that the student community of Govt High School, Kund and local people had to lodge a protest to bring attention of the concerned authorities towards renovation of the school building.
It has been observed that the schools located in remote areas usually do not get sufficient funds to meet office expenses or carry out renovation or repairs on their buildings. Here it may be said that education department has many schemes like Rumsa, SSA whereunder money can be allotted to these schools. One wonders how quality education can be provded to students when they do not have proper infrastructure availabe. At present the Government of India is making all efforts to equip schools with modern technology like smart classes to keep students abreast of latest educational trends in the world. But why the State Education Department has not taken such initiatives in rural areas is a matter of concern.. However winds of change are blowing in urban areas of the State. The schools are being modernised at a rapid pace. The Department must give more thrust to rural education as 60 percent India still lives in villages.

Sir,
This pertains to the news item in which some teachers were criticised for asking school students to bring water, clean floors, collect firewood and prepare mid day meal etc. Once a week, is only a part of training of school children during school time in addition to their normal studies.
When the children go for bringing water to nearby rivulet Bawali or Naru they see the surroundings and come in touch with nature and natural resources including mud, flowers, fruits, birds, animals, ants, butterflies and many more which the city children never see or observe until they become highly placed officers in their profession including journalism.
Please note that this grass root level information and work is a must for each child.
Let us not sensationalize such small issues.
