Vice-Chairpersons of Advisory Boards, KPs’ delegation call on CM

JAMMU, Apr 10: Vice Chairman State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjar Bakerwal, Bashir Ahmad Bashir Naaz, Vice Chairperson State Advisory Board for the Development of Schedule Caste, Swarn Lata and Vice Chairman State Advisory Board for the Development of Other Backward Classes, Kuldeep Raj Verma called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here today and discussed various issues pertaining to the development of weaker sections.
The main issues which came under discussion include providing of untied grant to the Development Boards so that the genuine demands related to developmental activities of these communities are met with, timely distribution of pre-matric scholarship and release of funds under SCA to TSP etc.
They said that as per mandatory provision of Reservation Rules meeting of Enforcement Committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister was to be convened on yearly basis and stressed on adherence to it.
Enhancement of reservation in appointment/promotion for the OBC was also demanded to uplift the socio-economic condition of Other Backward Classes.
Mr. Naaz said that due to onset of Summer season migration of Gujjar Bakerwal community to their dhoks at high altitude areas has been started and there is need to issue directions to the civil administration for providing adequate assistance to these people during their transit from one place to another and to ensure that they do not face any inconvenience during their transition.
Chief Minister gave them patient hearing and said that their genuine demands will be looked into actively.
A delegation of Kashmiri Pandits representing Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust Nodal Agency led by its Chairman, Dr. A. N. Pandit also called on Chief Minister and discussed matters relating to the welfare of KPs.
The delegation among other things discussed in detail the matters relating to the Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill.
A students delegation led by President National Conference Students Union (NCSU) and JUSEA, Rakesh Chib also called on Chief Minister and presented him a memorandum of demands relating to the issues of students and higher education system.
Among other things the deputation demanded enhancement of scholarship for research scholars, introduction of new courses in off-site campus of University, expansion of subjects such as Statistics, Electronics and Home Sciences in the college and higher secondary level institutions.
The deputation also requested for giving maximum weightage to the PhD degree in the selection process by recruitment agencies. It also requested for data support, reservation of seats for female students in public transport, creation of grievance cells in every Government Departments and policy framework for paid Student Assistance for various programmes.
The Chief Minister gave patient hearing and said that the genuine demands would be given due consideration
