SRINAGAR, Feb 12: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today conducted an extensive tour of summer capital Srinagar and took stock of progress made on various ongoing key developmental projects.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Chief Engineer R&B, Executive Engineers of ERA and R&B, besides officers from Police and other concerned departments accompanied the Minister during the visit.
During the tour, the Minister visited Mehjoor Nagar and inspected ongoing work on alternate bridge (Bailey bridge) parallel to existing bridge there, which was recently declared unsafe for transport and public movement.
On the occasion, he directed the concerned executing agency to expedite the work and complete the bridge by the end of this month so that traffic snarls are reduced and people and commuters particularly residing in Natipora, Mehjoor Nagar and other adjoining areas are facilitated. While reviewing the pace of dredging work undertaken for Rambagh Flood Channel, the Minister directed the concerned to speed up the pace of work so that dredging is completed at the earliest.
Later, Veeri inspected the progress of work being carried out on Rambagh-Jehangir Chowk flyover where he was informed by the Executive Engineer ERA that the Ist phase of the flyover from Barzalla Bridge to Amar Singh College will be completed by August 15, 2017 and the rest of the work on the flyover (upto Jehangir Chowk) will be completed by December 2017.
The Minister urged the concerned engineers and contractors to work over-time to ensure completion of the project within stipulated time. During the day-long tour, several deputations also called on the Minister and apprised him about various issues being confronted by them. The Minister heard them patiently and assured them that their genuine grievances would be redressed on priority basis.
