JAMMU, Feb 14: Minister of R&B, Abdul Rehman Veeri has assured the Kashmiri Pandits that Government will make all arrangements for the Maha Shivratri falling on February 24.
The Minister was addressing a migrants gathering which called on him here, today under the leadership of PDP Migrant Cell president, A K Sidha and Rakesh Pardesi its general secretary.
The Minister informed the gathering that instructions have already been given to authorities by the Government that proper arrangements be made and all essential commodities be kept available prior to the festival besides there must be proper check on rates.
He issued instructions of making walnuts and other items connected with celebration of festival available on reasonable rates.
Veeri also urged the Relief Organisation to expedite the process for payment of relief for the month of January so that the people dependent on cash doles from Government will not face any hardships in celebration of the festival. Besides, he also issued instructions to FCS&CAD to issue ration of balance months without further delay.
He assured the gathering that Government will ensure proper power and water supply in the camps and he will personally take up this issue with concerned ministers.
The Minister after hearing the problems of the migrants said that every step will be taken to redress them and he will take up the issue regarding delay in payment of relief with concerned Ministry and appropriate steps will be taken to release the same during first week of every month.
Veeri said Maha Shivratri is the main festival of Kashmiri Pandits who used to celebrate it for days together in Valley prior to mass migration and the members of Majority community used to be the part of these celebrations to maintain the highest traditions of Kashmiriyat and pluralistic character of the State. He expressed the hope that such days will return once again as there is always a beacon of light at the end of the tunnel.
