JAMMU, Jan 10: Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu felicitated the Skit team of the University which stood First in recently conducted 32nd North Zone Inter University Youth Festival held at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur. Around 30 Universities from U.P., Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir participated in this prestigious event. The team was headed by Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare while Dr Parmil Kumar and Dr. Shashiprabha were the teachers incharge. Prof. R.D. Sharma wished the team all success in 32nd National Youth Festival which is being hosted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur (Maharashtra) in February, 2017.
In most of the events of Music, Fine Arts and Literary Activities, students of the University of Jammu received appreciation of the audience and judges but in Skit competition, the University of Jammu stood first, leaving behind around 25 highly competitive skits presented by different universities. The skit ‘Kuch to Socho’ which was praised for its originality and simplicity was written and directed by Sumeet Sharma and the students who performed in the skit included Richa Sharma, Gauri Thakur, Pallavi Kunwer, Simran Jaral, Neerja Bharti and Shruti Sharma. In a very light manner, it reflected the preparation for the youth festival where students are very excited for the zonals but have done very little preparations and in order to do something original they scratch their heads but even after using the best of their wits, they are not able to select a suitable theme for the play which they want to present at the youth festival. All the ideas like demonetization, women empowerment, pollution, corruption etc are discussed in a satirical manner but till the end no consensus is reached on what to present. Rakesh Anand, Darbari Lal and Kulbhushan Thakur were the accompanists for the skit and the theatre team was trained by Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor) and Ifra kak (Cultural Officer).
