SRINAGAR,  Mar 3:  Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today urged upon the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti to take stringent measures to curb corruption in the State and make the administration accountable.
In a press statement here  Vakil said that corruption undoubtedly flourishes from top level and anti- graft bodies like State Vigilance Commission, State Accountability Commission and State Information Commission were constituted for curbing corruption and cleaning the system from unscrupulous elements. He said despite huge investment in these anti- graft Commissions, desired results have not been achieved so far.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to strengthen these institutions and ensure disposal of all pending cases in a time bound manner so that faith of the people can be held back in the system of governance. Vakil expressed concern over the continued stay brought by some ex-ministers and bureaucrats for last more than eight years and no step has been taken till today. He said if the Government is serious in eradicating corruption then they should activate their lawyers and get these stays vacated.
Vakil also called upon the Government to come clean on the revelations under Right to Information Act published in Kashmir based daily newspaper about the wealth amassed by six sitting legislators of the Assembly and probe the disproportionate assets of ex- ministers and ex- legislators against whom several corruption cases are pending disposal in the premier investigation agencies of the State Government.
Saying that RTI revelations disclosing increase in wealth of six legislators by several hundred times from 2008 onwards shows how law makers are illegally amassing wealth and looting the state exchequer.
Vakil demanded a time bound judicial probe by a High Court judge into the RTI revelations on six legislator’s and other politicians whose cases are pending in different courts and investigating agencies.
